Thank you sir! this fixed my computer right away. Sent my computer back to hp because it wasn't turning on. They repaired it and sent it back. 91 days later ( day after the warranty expires) it happens again. Frustrated with the price they want to charge me to fix it I turned to your video. such a easy fix. Thank you soo much!!
I am able to refer to this video to recovery a “dead” 23-Q05HK but it was not successful when shorting pin 2 and 4 the first time. After trying the second time I touch the pin 2, 3 and 4 with a flat screwdriver and magic happened. Thanks for sharing this video which make my trial much easier!
So after reviewing many comments here a lot of people are saying the cmos battery replacement did the trick just fine. If your having this issue with yours, I recommend doing that first before shorting anything. In my case there was nothing wrong with my cmos battery and I still have the same one in it to this day. The machine is still running just fine and hasn't had this issue again since.
OMG!!!! I cannot thank you enough for sharing this!!! I kept reading about it but no one showed me how to do it. You have been a lifesaver ❤️❤️❤️ thank you soooooooooo much!!!
Thank you so much for this fix. I think this is the first time I have left a comment on a video but I just had to say thank you for uploading this. I got my wife's computer working again while she was sleeping in and she hopefully will be none the wiser. I really hope that the problem does not come back but at least its an easy fix as far as computers go.
You proved that my adapter was the issue. Thank you! After plugging in my keyboard I got a new error about the adapter. It was hard to identify and make sure that this was it before getting a new one. Props to you!
Just to add, i have also the same PC however the problem was on the battery, seems we have a not so clean powerlines so it damage the battery.... Problem solve!!
Thank you for this video, I don't have the same model as you but this video gave me the idea to short out the power leads on the motherboard. Thanks to your video my HP pavilion 21 all in one came back to life.
So happy to have given you the idea to get your machine back up and running. I still have this machine and have yet to have the same issue repeat itself. Just happy this video is still providing help being as old as it is.
Not sure if anyone will see this but I am having the same problem with my asus all in one and I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of it happening with one of those? I'm not able to take it apart just yet (health problems) but am trying the unplugged approach in the mean time until I can get at it. But hopefully won't have to. Any direction is welcomed, thanks for putting the only video I could find on this!
Man you are a star - this method works, I tried it. Another method that I discovered works is simply to disconnect the computer from the power source and leave it off for 8 - 12 hours. Connect the power supply and it press the power switch on. Mine has gotten to work after that
It works, unfortunately once the machine shuts off (power outtage or update or whatnot), I have to re-short the switch to get it to turn back on. So I ran two wires from pin 2 & 4 on that ribbon-cable, and touch them together whenever I need to turn it on. meh. but at least it's not a paper-weight anymore. thanks.
nice video, but would be better if you add the specifications of your machine... Because your HP Pavilion AIO doesn't look like mine, I'mm assuming yours is older.
Ziyn 100 I need to know how to get the power switch LED light to come on when power cord is attached! Your video solution only works when my HP Pavilion 23 all-in-one is plugged in and the power switch LED light is on! Please help!
FYI, same thing happened to mine, all you had to do is remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard and put it back in. Using an arc to short/jump the pc is harmful to the components. The CMOS would have reset all the components internals and would start right back up. I just stumbled across this video and thought id share the right way to solve this issue.
Thanks for the tip, I did remove it, and unfortunately, it didn't do anything to help the issue for me. I mentioned in the video that I would recommend a pc repair specialist prior to attempting such a thing on your own. I didn't have the money at the time and knew a few things about pcs back then. I also mentioned in on of my comments, that it could damage the pc and that you should attempt it only if it was your last ditch effort. 😉 Also the jump I provided was simply bypassing the power switch so there wasn't any real harm threatening the computer so long as nothing else was grounded in the process. BUT FOR THOSE STILL READING AND TRYING THE FIX ... By all means plz try the cmos first.
Shorting the pins on the ribbon cable to power it on is exactly what pressing the button is already doing, there's no reason it would be worse for it. The only reason the result is different is probably to do with dirt or a loose connection stopping the normal button function from working.
That's essentially what the switch does. It makes contact with the wires during depression of the mechanical button. Who knows maybe there's a piece of dust covering it
thank you sir. - i was wondering how to short out the switch - bought a new one from ebay but no good. bought new ribbons from ebay - no good. will try this out
yes it worked however i had to short it from the ribbon that is on the edge of the motherboard that goes to the power switch. just touch it with a flat head and it powered on. i was excited that it fired up
Hope someone see this, having a similar issue. My motherboard has no light on even with the power supply fitted. tried almost everything already. any ideas?
It looks like the connectors to the thermalthrockle and dipolar gates were inverted during manufacturing of your PC. That was my issue and it was a quick fix.
CMOS is basically the software that the computer runs when it boots, prior to the computer invoking the OS (Windows?). The CMOS starts Windows and tells it what device to boot from, normally the hard drive.
Have one of these AIO 23-Q112 that was shipped with a corrupt BIOS that would often not turn on. Not the BIOS battery as the onboard clock and settings don't get wiped when unplugged.... . Tried to update the BIOS using SP97015 and it said the BIOS was wrong.....Now all I get is the front LED flashing 7 times.
I know I'm here pretty late!!! If anyone can help, I'm trying to figure this out with the 23-h052 model. The power doesn't have the ribbon cables like the one in the video. I've tried shorting out the power switch, but nothing happens. I don't have a light that comes on when the adapter is plugged in. I've tried two separate adapters, that work, but I get nothing. I'm wondering if mine is something more serious than just a faulty switch. I've tried everything I have found on the internet, but don't want to just pitch this thing. Thanks
Only the 3.+4. Pin works if i connect them. But that shuts the Power-LED off, and the PC still won’t boot up. If i try the 2.+4. Pin nothing happens. I already changed the CMOS-Battery. Need help please.
My HP envy 23 all in one is doing this. Back light on, no power button function. My year doesnt have a ribbon. It has 4 wires to the switch. Red, black, geen, and white. Anyone know the 2 colors to bridge?
Hey guys i just powered on my pavilion 20 and the led on the power button went from white to orange then i pressed the button and it was not responding so i took of the ac adapter then put it back on and the power light for the ac adapter turned on and i pressed the power button and the led won't turn on can someone help me??
hey buddy, i get a light on in the back where i plug in power but when i press the switch, the front light does not come on and i dont get a screen. what would you propose? i have a ribbon cable to the switch with about 8 leads. thank you.
Mine has been stuck in a automatic repair loop. Anyone have a solution? I've been through the processes of typing in commands and it hasn't solved the.
Good morning. Thanks for this video. Great. Did you have any clue where can I mess when i don't get any video signal. I can't see any signa on the video HD and power goes on, But I don't know where start the diagnosis. Thanks.
I got a hp 20 I had it on one day and the screen went black....when I connected it back my keyboard and mouse don't turn on but the light on the power button does
Does anybody have a procedure for same exact problem, but as my HP 23 must be different model cuz power switch wire to main board is not that of the 4 wire configuration as shown but that of a 6 switch connection and dont wanna fuck it up by just guessing.....ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
My computer turned on but screen didn't. Before the hard drive starts functioning the computer turns off and the power switch lights turns on and off. I found one cable in the upper left of the motherboard disconnected. I fixed it by connecting it.
Have a HP 24 all in one touch screen, start button dont work, Could short-circuit it with start button but it broke , not easy to find replacement parts. Bought one from Germany but it was wrong start button. Do I need the start button? Can I short start it with just the flat cable. Think it was connector 1 and 3 with flat cable. Can you solder connector 1 - 3 inside from the computer and cable out through the computer and cross the cable and short circuit? Shame to throw away a computer just because it won't start properly, works very well otherwise.
Thank you so much for this video. Had a repair guy come out. Couldn't fix it and said I needed a new system. Took me 20 minutes and it's on again.
I'm so glad this video is still helping people. Happy you were able to get it up and running again!

Man, you are genius. Many thanks for uploading this video and good luck to everyone
Just ran into this same problem on a HP Pavillion 21 AIO and just changing the CMOS battery fixed the problem.
Excellent video. Worked first time with no issues. Thanks for the excellent tube on this problem. 👍👍
Just to add, i have also the same PC however the problem was on the battery, seems we have a not so clean powerlines so it damage the battery.... Problem solve!!
Simply brilliant. Worked well for me straight away. Thanks a ton. Adding a clarity, use same wire (suggested usb cable) color for both side
Thank you for this video, I don't have the same model as you but this video gave me the idea to short out the power leads on the motherboard. Thanks to your video my HP pavilion 21 all in one came back to life.

This saved my computer. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video. I will be attempting this tonight. Hopefully it's just the power button.
Was it the power button after all? If so, where did you get a new one?
Worked for me. Took a couple of tries, but the switch eventually worked! Thx
Thank you so much for this informative video. You saved me time and money!!
My friend you are the best, your solution worked like a charm, thank you

Not yet but I still need to open it

I would try cleaning the end of the ribbon and the slot with isopropyl alcohol and then blowing them dry with compressed air.
nice video, but would be better if you add the specifications of your machine... Because your HP Pavilion AIO doesn't look like mine, I'mm assuming yours is older.
So far so good!
I'm scared to do it actually.

Had the same thing happen to me. Replaced the cmos and it booted perfectly.
Steven Hatch cmos?
Steven Hatch What is the cmos??
CMOS is basically the software that the computer runs when it boots, prior to the computer invoking the OS (Windows?). The CMOS starts Windows and tells it what device to boot from, normally the hard drive.
For anyone who comes across this, OP was referring to the CMOS battery. Looks like a watch battery on the motherboard.
When i press the switch on mine the led just turns on and off quickly
Do you solved it?
@Mr Greedy bro what you did next?
If anyone solved this problem pleasee help me !!
@Mr Greedy if you found then please remind me 🙏
Hello everyone I fixed it by unplugging the power supply for 48 hours it works fine now!

I just replaced the bios battery and it started again
can you re upload the video turns with green lines now which is weird
I have a hp 20 and I get a keyboard error on the boot up. Know how to fix it? I think there is something up with my usb ports
What's a permanent solution because it only seems to work with the wire touching but I don't think that is a viable ongoing option.
Great

no, it wasn't mine so I tried everything I knew with no results ,I now use the screen with e-bay bought driverboard and my raspberry Pi

My computer turned on but screen didn't. Before the hard drive starts functioning the computer turns off and the power switch lights turns on and off. I found one cable in the upper left of the motherboard disconnected. I fixed it by connecting it.
Where is the power supply unit
The "power supply" is the cable and box that plug into the back of the computer.
Its external.
