Apart from her beauty which everyone has already commented about, her acting is superb. I got chills while watching her put her finger in front of her mouth when she sings “e non si dice.” Absolutely love Moffo and her genius!
Anna Moffo is the class act. Such delicacy in phrases, elegance, beauty, absolutely beguiling. A voice of flexibility, interpretation that makes everything alive and relevant. Overall superb. What a wonderfully crafted performance.
Not only was Madame Moffo beautiful. She had an incredible beautiful lyric soprano voice. My parents loved her as we listened to the Mets Saturday afternoon broadcast in my Dads library /office. Both my parents sang beautifully together but they were also deeply in LOVE. I was about 10 yrs old & My older brother did not particularly care for Opera but sometimes he would sit with us and listen. After he heard LA Boheme with Madame Moffo he said to me now I'm beginning to understand why you & Mom & Dad like Opera so much. My Dad had some of her albums & said here son listen to this Opera & the translation in English is inside the cover and it took him a while to listen to it in between baseball games basketball Etc he was a great athlete.Danny was the best athlete of the year 2 years running in High School. At the awards dinner towards the end of the school year my mom and dad took him to buy a new dark blue suit for this very special occasion. We are very proud of him. And he was kind of shy. Once he got his trophy and the special jacket with his name embroidered on it with the school colors They asked him to say a few words he was so nervous and red-faced my mom got teary-eyed and when he was done I stood up and applauded and he looked at me and smiled. Salve Donizetti! Amo essa ópera!

Maybe I'm naive, because this isn't the repertoire I generally listen to (big fan of German opera), but l genuinely do not understand why Moffo isn't considered one of the great voices of the latter half of the 20th century (like Sutherland, Caballé, Nilsson, Price, etc.)
We love her in Germany and consider her one of the greatest Sopranos, together with Sutherland, Mirella Freni, Caballe. In some parts (Donizetti, Bellini, or Verdi -Gilda) I like her more than any other Soprano.
Ross Merchant: It is s very beautiful voice but it didn’t get to the core of the role. She was not as technical as Sutherland or interpretive as Callas but she made the roles and recordings her own. She developed breathing and support problems and left her career much earlier than she should. Her RIGOLETTO and LUISA MILLER are excellent but let’s not say anything about THAIS.
I don’t think she had technical difficulties. A teacher of hers commented the same thing towards the tail-end of her career but I never really heard pitch inaccuracies until the later years after her husband overbooked her and stretched her talent thin by putting her in film, talk shows, and opera and recitals. Those things and constant travel without rest are enough to deteriorate anyone’s voice.

Where are the wedding guests? Where is the blood on her nightdress? Moffo is superb, but her acting would be better set off with the guests and Alisa and Enrico there.
The director chose not to include them. It's not a requirement for her to be covered in blood, and lots of productions have the guests leave to make Lucia seem more alone.
Rachel Port: The Ashton’s are not a very rich family. The wedding invitations only offered light refreshments, no meal, no “plus ones” but gifts were welcomed. There is no blood because she stabbed her bridegroom with so many cuts that he bled to death internally but not enough to saturate her nightgown.
GeorgieporgiePie: We’ll neigh is Marni Nixon singing for Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY but short of filming a live performance, this was the best alternative. And it’s loverly. I want to dance all night after hearing it.
This is some pretty good singing, but it has many little flaws.. under pitch, unsupported notes , especially in the middle register... that speak of the many problems to come shortly in her career. The lack of a homogenous voice with supported notes, in fact screwed up her top notes too.

Moffo is my favorite singer, but you're not wrong, here. Anything she recorded after 1969, when she had her infamous vocal crisis, is subject to all those flaws you just mentioned. Personally I don't mind her later recordings--I like the husky quality her voice took on enough to sacrifice perfect technique--but I know it's not for everyone.
@@zariza62 Sorry. Moffo sang far from perfect technically. She admitted that herself. Regardless, she had a gorgeous instrument, Supreme acting and musical skills. Ava Gardner had nothing over the beauty of Anna Moffo.
poor anna ...no guests ..no blood ..she really does seem mad not in a good way ...she has just stabbed her husband ...Help a soprano out guys! she has to look like a nutjob! Not a woman having a dance in a nightie! Also you would imagine those guards trying to arrest her ....she has just killed someone!
She looks the part definitely. That haunted mad look and her acting is superb, but no one come close to Dame Joan Sutherland’s Lucia. Her unforgettable performance at the Met in 1982, with the amazing Alfredo Kraus as her beloved Edgardo, sends chills down my spine every time I watch it on video. ( the only one ever recorded of “La Stupenda” singing this role.) And what is even more amazing, she was in her late 50’s when she made this appearance at the Met.
Anna quanti bei ricordi. Eri bellissima e molto brava. Per la prima volta riuscivo a capire le arie di un soprano. Un grande abbraccio fin lassù ❤

Anna's Caro Nome is also a stand out. Dimensionally far more advanced than Caballé, Sutherland and of course Callas.

특히 베냐미노 질리의 격정적인 음성으로 듣기를 좋아한다.

There is no blood because she stabbed her bridegroom with so many cuts that he bled to death internally but not enough to saturate her nightgown.
No question about exceptionality, uniqueness and warmth, but the voice over aka lyp syncing is not of a very high standard.
That's what the technology allowed back then.
