Exactly. Have been able to sleep properly because not jacked up with adrenaline after the games under Slot. Last year under Klopp raised stress levels even in games LFC won.
Hey Laurence, keep up the good work! We all love the analytical content and the lack of hyperbole. Plus you're creating a really nice community as a result!
for me, this game felt like a pretty dominant win. the story of the game (imo) was this: first 10-15 minutes: pretty chaotic, upper hand to Leipzig - i can chalk this up to adrenaline, Leipzig feeling invigorated under the lights minute 20-75: Liverpool domination, Leipzig hardly laid a glove on us, especially like 30-60, we ran the show 75-90: since it was still just 1-0, Leipzig felt they could snatch something from this game, had a second wind of sorts, and they had a couple good looks by and large, very comfortable game, i never really felt any peril whatsoever except for later in the second half when Konate stepped up to claim a ball, took a touch, got disposessed, and nearly saw Leipzig through on goal. outside of that, never really felt in any danger. and offside goals don't really bother me when the link and offside line set up between Konate and Virgil is strong time to rewatch the game and see how i feel
When Macca was lining up for the shot.. I knew it was going in.. It was super close though. We have Trent, Salah, VVD but this Maaca is the most talented player in the squad..He is KDB type but have different role at Liverpool.
Odd game that. Played well at times but Kelleher and Konate had to bail us out a few times. I still think we look vulnerable and have been fortunate we haven't faced many decent forwards. Trent a bit sloppy early on and Szoboszlai just not quite at it. The subs or timing of them worked against us a bit. How that pen decision wasn't overturned beggars belief though, absolute stone wall pen.
I wish we went for one more goal in the second half. I feel like it would’ve given us loads more energy. Especially considering how choppy it got in the last 10. A two goal lead would’ve been nice.
I’m used to the way the team is playing and I’m not that arrogant to expect complete domination for 90 minutes every game like some. Leipzig are a decent team that is doing well in the Bundesliga yet we still went to their ground, had nearly 60% of the ball, more shots, more on target which is good enough. I see something different with the team at the moment to you, in that they are at times overconfident and a bit nonchalant in the way they play because things are generally flowing nicely for them and they end up giving the ball away cheaply. I’m pretty happy and any criticism at the moment feels like nitpicking tbh. Let’s see if they get a good result at Arsenal and then that will take the confidence of everyone up a notch, which will be another way to see how they all react to that
Pretty much spot on. I honestly don’t really understand any talk in the media surrounding the first team at the moment that is not “10/10 perfect” The way stats are used in analyzing football today is really evident in moments like this: numbers, data, information, etc give people a sense of reassurance and knowledge so they can feel confident about whatever they already think. The reality is you don’t actually know about something unless you do it. Your point about being arrogant is exactly right, a football match is an insanely long amount of time and the balance is continuously changing over the course of 90 minutes. Today it took 26 minutes for them to figure out where to hurt RB. Dont get me wrong, Arne is implementing some complex tactical details but what he does that is not being talked about is how he is putting the lads in the position to figure it out themselves. I actually find him very similar in style to Ancellotti in this way, just more Dutch. People need to step back and take things for what they are a bit instead of looking for something they already want to find- its just football, nobody is gonna find something new. Bit of a ramble just to say i think you’re entirely right ynwa
I feel the 'boring' aspect can be fixed by being more accurate with our passing. The amount of times Trent snd Szobo broke up play today because they couldn't make simple passes was shocking. I can understand salah being wasteful because he needs to take risks and it usually pays off. But we can't have szobo and trent as well doing the same. Maybe it's time we drop szobo and put macca there and play Jones in the macca role or vice versa Can't wait for elliot to come back. He'd be perfect as our 10.
LFC changed out of possession pressing shape. Slot learned from Chelsea game. Now it was almost a 4231 with Nunez pressing relentlessly and the 3 behind covering opposition pivots. This is what we did after Chelsea scored and it shut them off
I think it may take time for the fanbase to adjust to the idea that being able to win 1-0 is going to be more sustainable in the long run than always conceding first and winning 3-1. It remains to be seen if we can win major competitions this way but it is already less stressful to watch :-).
You can win major competitions this way. The Italians have been doing it for ages. If you play a style in which you leave your defense vulnerable, you can not control how many you will concede. You'll just have to hope you converse enough chances into goals to outscore, which is never guaranteed. Therefor it is smarter to give priority to a solid defense first and possession second. Because as Cruyff put it, they can't score if you have the ball.
@@PropagandasaurusRex I agree, I am also hoping it will be easier on the players from a recovery and injury risk perspective. That full throttle intensity is taxing on the body and an injury to someone like Mo, Virgil or even konate would really set us back.
if this team had one more world class attacker it would be ready to win the league & CL. rest of the team showing a lovely balance & grit to not concede with obviously huge improvements possible. this is the floor of this team right now.
We have different style of playing for different games, which is great tactically as teams will be guessing to what they should play. Results are speaking for themselves so far,
In April 2022 United football director John Murtough went to Netherland for the Derby Feyenood vs Ajax , looking for a manager to replace Rangnick. During the match, he had some "special cookies" and he came back to Manchester after signing Ajax's manager Ten Hag. ......... Liverpool signed the Feyenood's manager, Arne Slot.🤪🤪
We couldn't keep the ball in the second half. We got lucky against an ordinary team. It was quite shocking. They had big chances. Our possession was terrible.
I do hope Joe Gomez starts at LB as opposed to Robertson. Robbo doesn’t defend as well as he used to, doesn’t really offer alot in the build up either.
Leipzig never had a foothold in that game it was controlled for large parts other than our own mistakes I don’t remember them playing through us or cutting us open
I still don’t understand why we bought Mamardasvili. Maybe Kelleher will be sold next summer. But he deserves to be a number 1. Here’s what I think will happen; 1. Because of Alison injury history, he will be sold to either Saudi or another team willing to take him and Kelleher and Mamardvali fight for the #1 spot. 2. Kelleher be sold to a team like Bayern, because of Neuer recent form and age, and Mamardvali sit behind Ali for a year and then be the #1. What do y’all think. I personally prefer Kelleher but I haven’t seen Mama play at all so I don’t know much about him
Allison isn't getting any younger and is injury prone so if it was me for next season I'd make Kelleher number 1 with Mamardashvili as backup. It's a bit ruthless but it's what we've gotta do
@@billynwa7418 I mean i don't blame him. He clearly has the quality to start somewhere. He is still young, only turning 26 next month. Hope he doesn't go to a lower tier prem club. Hope he gets a team like Bayern.

I love the fact for 15 minutes we tried to play through them and RB were very compact and competed well. We then decided to play round them by going wide and they couldn’t contain us. This was a superb game. Leipzig where out of the game, this was an arms length game.
I think Trent looked bored out there today......I do not believe he is staying. What Slot wants out of a RB is not what makes Trent special. Thoughts? Also it is early days but I really feel like we have to push to shut these games down and score more. winning by 1 only last for so long, and I felt the same way with Klopp when we always won at the last minute..... Great point!

Watching the game today tells me a lot about the Liverpool team. Tactically disciplined. We need to touch on our finishing.
we had over 2 xG this game though. Virgil could have easily knocked in a header from Tsimikas. Leipzig keeper got a bit lucky.

So lucky to have Kelleher as second GK!
