    Wonderful Nick. Used to be in Telian in late 60s and early 70s. Studied in 3 Rivers Secondary School in early 70s.
    Often go to Dalat by river and passing by whenever going to Sibu via Sungai Kut cannal in the old days. Thank you very much for the video.❤👍👏🙏

    You were at Ah Mei Kedai Keman, aka Food Garden-that's the name of her restaurant, if I remember correctly-at the beginning of the video. It has been so long already that I haven't been to Ah Mei Kedai Keman. Perhaps I'll go back to Sarawak next month. Oh, I missed my hometown so much. The Kampung that you went to, Telian. My late mom's dad was from Telian, grandma was an Iban from Sungai something I can't remember, and my dad was from Kampung Sitieng, Mukah (only if I spelled that correctly). One fun fact about my dad is that his mom was Melanau, and his dad was a Japanese soldier who left Sarawak after the Japanese lost in WW2, and he was adopted by his grandparents (it was kind of taboo back then, but if you're born to a Japanese dad, you know him to be the colonizer). Hence, my DNA is Melanau, Iban, and Japanese. I speak six languages, but Japanese is not one of them but fluent in Mandarin. My dad and mom met in Balingian, and they have lived there ever since. Someone recently asked me about my life and upbringing and told me that my story (more of my parents/grandparents story can be a rom-com movie). 🤣

    You should visit my village, Kampung Stass, the biggest Bidayuh village in Sarawak. Its just approximately 15 km from Bung Bratak that you climbed together with yr dad and Kevin. Our anchestors were originally from Bung@Mount Bratak. All the best in life.

    Nice trip. Actually, the old burial practice of the jerunai pole and old jars is the same as most of the orang ulu tribes (Kayan, Kenyah and a lot of small orang ulu tribes). The poles are called klirieng and there’s one moved to the Sarawak Museum.

    • @GlobalGibbon
      @GlobalGibbon  Рік тому

      Aha! Right! Similar practices. I’ll study the orange ulu traditions more!

      @@GlobalGibbon he's right, because the Melanau actually closely related to the Orang Ulu tribes in the Eastern Sarawak & maybe also closely related to The Bidayuh as well in the Western side of Sarawak...
