We used larger versions of those grab bars for towel racks. We wanted large bars and they were a fortune - it was a great budget friendly alternative,
Brilliant Vickie!! Another great re-purpose for those sturdy bars.
After the hurricane when renovating our mom’s house we found craiglist and purchased several pieces of gorgeous furniture. I painted one to match the decor however it saved her thousands of dollars and they looked better than new. What was nice is it was not all matchy matchy.
Well done Ann! So sorry you had to deal with the aftermath of a hurricane, but sounds like you made the best of it regarding the decor. Thx for coming by ...
Great cost saving ideas. Love them all. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I found a avocado green mixing bowl at Goodwill that I use as a fruit bowl. It matches the plates hanging in my kitchen. I had found them in clearance years ago since there were only three. Later I found a pitcher at a resale shop that was almost the same color. I use it for flowers. I have a fondness for trees and shade of green so the coordinate with my artwork. So although they aren't white they coordinate the colors of my dining room, kitchen, and living room.
YES - YES - YES Bonnie!! Way to curate your home!!
Love your great ideas....!!! Maybe I can save enough to buy those faucets behind you. GORGEOUS along with the sink.
Oh Donna - I do LOVE my faucet. It was a bit of a splurge. Got to sometimes so good to get creative and save in other aspects.

You should post a lot more often!
Working on it! Listen to my podcast in the in between. decoratingtipsandtricks.com - find us on itunes or any podcast player. New episodes every Monday & Wednesday!
Good ideas! You can save money and weight by filling up the bottom foot or so of your planting cans with empty aluminum cans btw!
Hey Lisa!! Great tip - thank you!
Thank you for another great video! I really enjoy all that you share ~
I'm not seeing the links for the pitcher/vase and the footed bowl. Thanks again!
Debbie in WA Ü
Thanks Debbie - I forgot to add them. Doing that now. You'll love these pieces. Thanks for watching :)
The ideas are awesome! Thanks.
But your dress! Where can I get it?! It’s beautiful!
Thrifted - sorry no clue where you could get one. Thx!!
I for one absolutely love those garbage can planters! I can't imagine how much planters that size would even cost. Great idea!😊
WooHoo - so I am not nuts or at least not nuts alone! Glad you like the planter idea. Give it a try!
I wanted two tall planters, they were approx. $179- $200+ at (Orchard Supply 2 yrs ago) each. The garbage cans are a great idea & saves a bindle
I adore your house! You have such great taste and such clever ideas for decorating. Thanks you for your videos.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the videos.
me, too, I love the garbage can idea!! definitely going to use that one for some smaller planters on my deck , thanks!
Oh my goodness... the garbage can tree planter!!!! Absolutely love it for my deck 🥰🎉 Thank you so much!!!
Sincerely, Susan
Yippee!! I think it will look great! Thanks for watching Susan :)
Thanks for the great ideas! I was looking for a new hallway light and this will be the perfect low cost, high style choice.
I have one in my upstairs hallway too Kathy. Total of 4 in my house & two in the barn attic. All of them cost me less than one at Rejuvenation Hardware. Thx for watching!
I wanna know...what’s the name of that doggy!
Well - there are 3 Emmett - Edith & Eve. Size order biggest (14lb ) to smallest (7 lb). All rescues all loves! Thx for asking!
Kelly-I have been hearing that you should never paint your kitchen cabinets white because white yellows. They said unless you have a very sunny kitchen, the white will yellow. They said the sun helps keep it white. I am afraid to have a white sideboard buffet because I am afraid it will yellow. Is this true or is there a paint/products that will prevent this from happening? I noticed my white chalk paint with wax finish has yellowed on my other piece and on a mirror frame but it was not regular paint but the chalk paint and wax that yellowed.
Victoria I have never had white latex paint yellow. I do know that oil based white can yellow. Not sure about chalk paint.
I did the same thing with that inexpensive grillwork about 6 years ago. I have an old house (1800's) and the pipes would often freeze under the sink in the tenant's unit. Used to ask them to leave the botttom doors open, but you can never count on tenants, so I had a handyman cut out a rectangle in each door and attach the grills to the inside. I also moved a fridge into a shallow pantry doorway to make room in the kitchen which left an ugly space over the fridge. Had him build a frame for the space and insert the grill to allow air to pass through. I'm always looking for affordable solutions.
Brilliant ideas! Great inexpensive & stylish solutions. Thanks for sharing with us.
Just subscribed here and then jumped over to follow you on Instagram. I'm excited to have found you!
I am totally psyched too Debbie! Welcome!!
Great ideas, very creative. Especially the garbage can planters. Not sure if I could make them work that well but they look great in your yard.
I bet you could! Use as a backdrop to two other planters or line up for some instant privacy. Thanks for coming by ...
OMG! I just priced galvanized plant containers at our (new to me, moved to the beach!) nursery/landscaping store looking for containers for our deck. I gulped at $95! and said to my husband we are getting galvanized trash receptacles!!! I love your videos! Your down to earth, practical and stylishly thinking outside the box!
And $95 is on the lower end for galvanized planters! Congrats on your new beach home! Thanks for coming by today.
THANK YOU! Truly, thank you so much for doing a realistic video for people with a modest income. I love the white dishes at WalMart. Plain, simple and beautiful. I have gotten a few of the pieces from this collection and they are real keepers. I enjoy all of your videos and appreciate your down to earth and wonderful decorating style. Things always have their season, but I feel like this style is very nearly timeless if you are careful in executing it. Sure updates can be made, but it doesn't seem to be drastic ones that are required. It is embracing the days gone by. Thank you for your wonderful videos. Keep them coming.
Cathy - I am going to memorize your comment! :) . Thank you so very much! Timeless is my goal in mind, body & house !!
I'm so glad I came across your channel! Although I'm very traditionalist, I do love to go out of the ordinary when it comes to my home. I like the way you think......the garbage can and bathroom bars are great ideas! Thx a zillion!
Brilliant! You gave me a great idea for a cabinet that I am going to refinish. It is missing the glass in the one window, but that metal mesh (?) would make a great window replacement. I always look forward to your videos!
Oh that is a terrific use for the metal sheeting!! Glad you found the video useful Deborah.
Love the footed bowl, and pitcher! They look much more expensive than they are. Great low cost idea.
I totally agree Nancy! And both are very large. Hope they are still in stock if you are looking to get them. Thank you for watching!
Great ideas Kelly! 👍🏼👍🏼😍. Thank you so much!
P. S. I love your outfit! 👗.
Thank you Chayo!! So nice of you to say...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE those garbage cans!!!! And I love the fridge handle. Great...now I gotta go to home depot.
I'll see you there Debi! Hahaha!!
You can fill the bottom of the garbage can planter with plastic water bottles and then soil, cuts the amount thus cost, adds drainage and lessens the weight so it is easier to move. Great ideas. Thanks
Yours is a great idea too Lynne !
Wao...the garbage can beleve me this is asome idea... I'm running to get one.....thank you soo muuuch...
Great video. Always a great pleasure to sit down with a coffee and watch your inspirational content. Such clever ideas but the one I will be using is the “garbage can” called dustbins in the U.K.. you just saved me a fortune. . You are a natural in front of the camera. Keep it coming “gal” 💕💕👏💕💕
Dust bin is a nicer name - maybe I'll switch to that .... Thanks for your nice comment Diana. Watching the videos after we make them I always think UGH! SO thanks!!
Think outside the box for those who don't like the garbage cans: who said it was a garbage can? Someone decided this type of container was for garbage. So another decided this type of container was for a large plant. Who gets to decide it is just for garbage??? Narrow thinking. I love the idea of using for plants-it is lovely!!!
I LOVE the way you think! Have you seen my scrubber pad pumpkins? :)
Victoria Bennett narrow thinking, I love ideas of repurposed things!
Will use garbage can next spring. Tfs cheers
I LOVE the garbage bin planter idea. I've seen people that I know who have small yards actually use the plastic bins where they completely cut out the bottom of the bin and submerge it into the ground a little and grow citrus trees out of them. The roots are free to spread as there's no bottom. But I love your idea, it's more cosmetic. Love from Australia. Ps your home is beautiful and so are you. xxx
Angela from Australia YOU have made my day!! Thank you for coming by and for your very kind comment.
I love the garbage can planters idea. Big trees are very expensive. Smaller tree instantly becomes a big tree. 💡
Excellent point Linda!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts & for watching.
When we first married we could not afford end tables etc. garbage cans to the rescue! Put a piece of wood on top and cover with a round tablecloth. End table with storage!
You get a gold star for that idea Sandi!!
I think the garbage can planter is a great idea👍
Great ideas!!!! Would love to replicate the vent covers. Do you maybe have a video on how to make them?
Hey Katherine - no video on making the vent covers. Pretty straight forward though. Buy the metal sheet and select a moulding to surround it. Cut metal to size. Paint or stain moulding. Attach moulding to metal sheet with staple gun or finishing nails. Drill two screw holes on either side & screw to the wall. Hope that helps!
Hello love your videos. I am not a decorator and find your suggestions great! 😀
If you take the time to watch decorating videos Ellie - you are a decorator in the making! Thanks for coming by...
I love the garbage cans as planters. Totally doing this.
Definitely do it!
Love them all !! I have done the “clean the registers and paint them 👍 ....thankfully my return air vents were on the floor and look the same. Who doesn’t love galvanized garbage cans and a can of spray paint ! And yes... those metal sheets can become gorgeous fillers in cabinet doors and used on the ceiling also. Then....finally I am so thankful that the design world has embraced the “industrial look” with galvanized pipes! Use them for my open shelves, door handles, legs on side table.... it is endless what can be done with them and paint !!!
Fabulous video Kelly and so great to see you again and hear your great tips! 🍂🍂🧡🧡🍂🍂
Hey Jayne! As always I appreciate your comment & watching. xx
I also did the garbage cans as planters! I never heard of anyone else that did ! Love it!
You are brilliant Tracey!! ;) Thanks for coming by...
You are amazing! I loved all of those ideas and I had always struggled with the cost of large planters for my porch so this is a perfect bargain idea. Thanks so much. I think your home is gorgeous!! This is not decor related but you also have beautiful hair.
Thank you Charlotte - decor related or not I really appreciate your comment! Hope the planters work out well for you.
I love your videos-so helpful and informative. The pitcher and bowl make a lovely compliment in my kitchen and thanks to your video about floral design there is a lovely bouquet of lilies in the pitcher. Thank you for so freely sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure Jill! Thank you for taking the time to watch :)
Hi Kelly, long time no see. Haven 2017. I didn't know you had a UA-cam channel. Love it. I am all subscribed. Now I need to go back and watch more. Loved the ideas in this one.
Hey Pamela!! So nice to 'bump into you" here! Thanks for subscribing. Happy to see you again.
I hate my fridge, it's black plastic handle! Thank you I'm going to home depot for the handle. Great ideas!
Easy fix Christine! Thanks for coming by today.
Love your ideas. Your kitchen is perfection! Could you tell us about your kitchen faucets, counters and sink?
Hi Dee Dee - my faucet is a bridge style. the sunk is a Shaw apron front and my counters are marble. I have posts on my sink & counters on my blog. Come on by! Planning a sink video soon!
Thank you!
Quick question, re garbage can planter, how do you stop it from rusting given the watering of the plant?
Great question Mona. It is galvanized steel from Behren's - it does not rust.
My Soulful Home thanks I will have to research if we have anything similar here in Australia. Thanks again.
How do you get your hair to be so beautiful. Hair tutorial!
You are too kind! Thank you. The guy who cuts my hair does such a good job that its needs very little work. That and a pony tail holder is the way I usually roll.
Omgosh. I am changing out all of my vents!
Do it!!
New subbie I am loving your style!!! I’m moving to the South soon so I can’t wait to incorporate some of these ideas in my new home!!
Welcome Larue! Best of luck in your move. Nice to have the along!
I love the handle bar ideas, so original, so practical and so cool.
Thank you for being both clear and concise!
Awesome tips. Really love the garbage can planter❤🌳
I'm new here I love the idea of the trash can. On this harvest, my love brought me a pine tree. Can't wait until it grows bigger.
What a special pine tree you have! Hope my planter idea works well for it.
They not faking... garbage cans... brilliant
Paula "brilliant" you are too kind!
Omg great ideas ,x
awesome ideas thank you getting garbage cans
Love the idea of the AC vents. Just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Great video and I have to use your garbage bin idea. Love it!
Go for it Sue Marie!!
Just had this video in my feed, the garbage can, I painted mine green an it holds all my gardening tools, it's handy dandy an I Love it.
Great idea Wende!
Nice ideas
New subscriber I can't wait to check out all your videos. Love this one.
Welcome! So glad to have you along with me.
Great ideas!!!!! Thank you
Great tips n ideas. What would you recommend for floor registers? Any ideas
Hey there - you can simply spray paint black or brown to flow better with your flooring. You could make small covers like the ones I made for a bigger vent. Use 1/4 round shoe moulding and a rectangle of the sheeting material. If you don't want to DIY that way try Reggio Registers. Hope that helps! Thx for watching ...
I love the bathroom safety handles idea. I would use that idea for my closets handles.
Another great use!! Thanks for sharing that idea Paula :)
Totally love your decorating style - I'm very interested in the kitchen sink basin behind you - where can you buy it ?
Hi Candice - my sink is a Shaw ( Shaw's Original ). It is the 30" farmhouse sink. Many retailer's carry this brand. Thx!
Found shorter cans, tuned upside down, placed round mirror over the end and made pretty "table" cloths, heavy duty cardboard on the bottom, turned cans into perfect height end tables with storage. Love creative uses for existing products. Good work.
Awesome idea Jackie!! Thanks for sharing with us.
I love your garbage can idea!!!!
Thanks Lisa - it has worked out really well for me.
Love your kitchen, just beautiful.
Thank you Roxanne - did you ever see the BEFORE? Oh my ...
Super Idea about the trash can to converted into a planting pot. I have a moringa tree that I don't want to plant in the ground and I'm already working with galvanized pales as planting pot (doing a rustic farmhouse look for my back yard anyway), that I don't have to paint it. Thanks for all the great tips many blessings.
Absolutely Maria! This will be great for your rustic farmhouse yard. Thanks for coming by today!
Great ideas wonderful video
So glad you enjoyed it Cristina!
That garbage can idea was great, will try that! I have a new house and I love high style home decor on a budget. I just purchased some used stylish curtains, 4 pcs, but they are too short, I need 2 of them for my French doors into the garden, and the leftovers, I will try to convert into roman blinds on the 2 smaller windows. I am searching UA-cam for tutorials on how to do that, they are lined. Have you ever done that? 😊
Thanks so much for watching & for your comment! Congratulations on your new home. I have not created lined romans. I bet you can find a blog or video on creating those. Good luck!
i like the garbage can planters too! they look really cool painted black...what a creative idea. i have been wanting the do the sheet metal covers since i heard you talking about it on the podcast. i am on it! thanks for the great ideas!
Love to hear you listen to the podcast Christina! Let me know if you have any questions when creating your returns. Thanks for coming by my channel today.
Great ideas, loved your video.
Glad you liked it!!
I love these!👍🏻🙂
So very glad to hear!!
Your ideas are great. I loved all
Yay! Thank you! :)
I love love your ideas?? Garbage can planters... you are a genius!! ❤️👍
Pam I wouldn't go that far, but the planters do look pretty great!
Homedepot.com has furniture, home and decorative items. Surprisingly nice.
Yes Julie - HD bought or took over Home Decorators a few years ago. The quality is nice and the prices good.
Love every single idea including the trash can planter, why pay hundreds of dollars for a ginormous planter to be pelted with weather :)
Exactly Gina Marie! And the height you almost can't get in a true planter.
Love the garbage can idea! Where were you when I was renovating the bathroom? I just found you!
So sorry I missed the bathroom renovation. Do another spot so I can join in the fun!
Garbage can, I love that idea, I have been looking for large pots, thanks👍🏼I love the idea how you made the big flower pot!! Will do it this summer👍🏼she said garbage can!
Great video! Luv the trashcan👌🏼
You scored! loved the vent idea...i'm totaling stealing that!...the diy trash can.... looks ...amazing!.... love it!
Woohoo SCORE! Thanks Christina!
Loved your ideas.
Thanks Debby!
