Welcome back to Evolution of a Snake: THE Taylor Swift Podcast, detailing the life and times of the world's most famous reptile. Hosted by two longtime fans unafraid to critique, EOAS analyzes the twists and turns of recent memory's most eventful pop legacy.
Imagine a world where we had a darker, angstier, spookier third child instead of two sister albums...a changeling if you will. That is today's exercise in magical thinking: we, The Snakes, have put our heads together and decided to imagine a world in which there is a triplet. We masterminded our ideal third album by choosing from Taylor Swift's existing discography (excluding all of folklore and evermore, but of course). Creating a narrative, honing the tracklist, and even designing Pinterest boards for the project's album art and overall vibe. Here's what we came up with.

Describing Midnights as ambient anxiety is so accurate.
periodt
Oh wow, that's actually a better album name
I hope one day Taylor challenges herself and drops an album for the fans where every track is named after these clown theories like woodvale and 5 holes in the fence. I’d love to know how she’d write a beautiful meaningful track about a hole filled fence
LMAOOOO
She probably made karma just to make fun of the karma album believers 😭
That's a terrible idea, she's an artist not a clown entertainer😭
An album that contains
Woodvale
roses (ft. rosé)
If kisses were wishes
5 holes in a fence
...... 🤣🤣😵
i feel like a song like '5 holes in the fence' could be the ultimate like meta-pop self referential song where she talks about 5 different heartbreaks or moments in her life which impacted her the most. the 'holes' could represent the scars that don't go away. no matter how hard you water and take care of the garden, there'll always be 5 holes in the fence.
Zack: “excluding everything from folklore and evermore”
Madeline: hoax, willow, mad woman!😄
And Zach just let her rock
We love a bit of blue in the hair for the teen Vogue party
well exactlyyyyy
Zack: so we had two rules; 1) the album must have 13 tracks, and 2) no folklore or evermore track can be included.
Madeline: so my track five is hoax, then onto mad woman and finally willow is my closing track.
😂😂😂😂
I was thinking this exact thing while watching 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Zack was such a gentleman!! ❤
Madeline is always breaking the rules or playing a different game, and it makes me laugh every time.
☠️☠️☠️☠️
If you think about it How Did It End is technically the track 5 of the anthology.
I have named mine lunar valleys
1. Sweet Nothing
2. I Hate It Here
3. Midnight Rain
4. Snow on the Beach
5. How Did it End?
6. Wildest Dreams
7. The Moment I Knew
8. I Almost Do
9. You're Not Sorry
10. Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
11. Foolish One
12. The Prophecy
13. Afterglow
I listened to the instructions at the beginning, left to build mine and then came back to compare, and was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of similarities! Great video, I loved playing along!
Gag this ate
Omg I did the exact same thing when I heard the rules lol. Mine’s called “Whispers”
1. Who’s Afraid of little old me
2. High infidelity
3. Glitch
4. It’s nice to have a friend
5. Snow on the beach
6. call it what you want
7. I can fix him (no really I can)
8. False god
9. Sad, beautiful, tragic
10. Bigger than the whole sky
11. That’s when
12. Loml
13. Nothing new
Here's mine , it's called "This Love Is Good , This Love Is Bad" you'll see as I go through the tracklist that it has a mix of the happy and dark parts of love hence the title. I also ignored the rules as you'll notice by the opening track.
1. Invisible String
2. You Belong With Me
3. Sparks Fly
4. I Think He Knows
5. Cornelia Street
6. Death By A Thousand Cuts
7. Delicate
8. Dancing With Our Hands Tied
9. This Love
10. False God
11. Wildest Dreams
12. Cruel Summer
Hope you like it!!!
"this pain wouldn't be for evermore... BUT WHAT IF IT IS???" i need her to release an album based on that idea expeditiously actually. The Prophecy is such a fascinating song, I still find myself marveling at the fact that Taylor managed to put such beautiful and haunting words to the profound yet fleeting feeling of loneliness and despair she was experiencing. It makes complete sense how that song in particular was the starting point for this experiment in delusion.
Oh absolutely!
the prophecy is a TRU exercise in delusion...
i love madeleine theme so much, a good addition to it can maybe be the idea of a lovesick siren whose songs can lure in men but can never truly make them love her
Ooohhh I like this - I really want Taylor to do an album with the siren theme I think she could do it well
Madeline's themes reminded me of this quote I saw recently. Not sure of who is the original author.
"I hold the moon in high regard as it governs three of our most cherished entities: oceans, wolves, and women.”
Omg love this!!!!!!!
"From Mad Woman directly into Cassandra. She's still killing, slashing throats, cutting people's hands off, no fingers for you, etc. etc." I'M DYINGGGGGGG 💀💀💀
43:24 I think The Anthology is kinda of the third sister. There's a lot of songs in there that sonorically takes you back to that sound but also adds something new to it. The Albatross for me it's very Willow, Chloe or Sam very Cowboy Like Me, How Did It End? very Tolerate It, The Bolter being the better sister of Betty. So If The Anthology was a separed thing from TTPD maybe it could be a third album.
OMG I agree!!! I cannot prove this, but I know Taylor has mentioned she archives "ideas and one liners"-- it truly wouldn't surprise me if some archival winners that perhaps "came to fruition" (were about her anxiety about loneliness and wanting to flee, but were pushing it too far at the time) made it out and made it to Anthology.. Anthology is the unofficial, after the fact Third Sister.
Wasn't there even a video of her telling folklore and evermore that there will be a new sister soon or am I just clowning?
You had me till Bolter / Betty.
I'd love to hear your reasoning :)
@@mallika5859 I can get behind Bolter/Betty, but it takes a little creative liberty and jumping of its own for sure. (And also at this point I'm no longer accepting "Betty/cardigan/August is purely fictional") I can see Bolter as the better alternative, or even the "supposed to feel like this but choosing to take him back" sister to Betty. We took him back according to the lore but maybe it was against Betty's better judgement and more to fit her ( denial and delulu) "I stay when it's hard"
@@taptoplayde yes there was! That's also a indicator that we were clowning for a 3rd sibling but I think sonically, we were clowning for this incomplete acoustic. Most of the songs on Anthology are very acoustic, airy (albeit spooky airy). I kind of identify folklore and Evermore as acoustic albums but have their own respective "vibe/identities"- so maybe some of the chunks of Anthology that were more "spooky" or very "ethereal darkish, very emotive"-- Cassandra, Chloe, Prophecy, Albatross, Peter. Were actually originally chunks of this project... And then fully fleshed out at some point, combined with extras that didn't make it to the TTPD 1, but she was emotionally attached to them at this point, and became Anthology
Hi!!! ❤❤
Leaving here an idea: making a Taylor album BUT only with songs from other artists (that maybe you wished was from Taylor).
Sending you love from Argentina ❤
I love this.
great idea!!
i am flabbergasted by the title of the album being THE FIRST SNOW
I love the name driftwood... I think that I imagined our speaker as the piece of driftwood, floating in the ocean but then being left on the beach, forgotten... and then getting picked up again at the end by the waves...
it would be a really beautiful way to describe her relationship history. she always gets picked up by the waves, only to be left on a new shore, while the waves rip apart the wood until theres nothing left
I agree with the last point, that it's probably not a very realistic thing to clown for. Personally in my mind what I'd hope for is a non-album project called *furthermore: the folklore and evermore vault* with leftovers from the og sessions. I mean she really should consider eventually opening the Vaults for the albums that she owns: Lover, folklore, evermore. (For the ones that follow she did kinda open the Vaults right away.)
Furthermore SLAYS as a name like being like I'm done, I've processed, I'm healed and then being like, actually wait no, I'm not healed this still affects me and I have more to say.
For real I see people being like omg ttpd prob has vault tracks 🤪 no babe she laid it all out there

If there ever was a Woodvale/3rd album, I would definitely go in a similar direction to the snow idea. Folklore is late summer/early fall, Evermore is late fall/early winter, then I would go deep winter, maybe move into early spring with some hopefulness at the end. (EDIT: but ALSO I love a witchy aesthetic so I would love to see that)
we need a DEAD OF WINTER record...
@@theswiftologist No like I'm BEGGING for it
Zach coming around to liking how did it end was long overdue but we've finally made it ! It was a journey !
For witchy I always think of "Carolina" from Where the Crawdads Sing tbh. I made a Taylor Witchy playlist and I put that on there.
The Black Dog “I hope it’s shittty [where you are]” vs. The Last Kiss “Hope it’s nice where you are.”
I know you don't like it but looking at Madeline's pinterest board and hearing her description
The album that clocks to my mind is
Hit Me Hard And Soft
Actually it occurred to me too LMFAO !!
@madelineveggieburger5640 haha love you Madz 🫶🏻
What Taylor could (and really should) make is a joint album with bon. Hear me out: I think we've reached a point of needing to spice things up and explore, a joint album with someone would be one such project. Bon is likely the best mate for this in many ways.
Are you thinking something akin to what Alison Krauss and Robert Plant did? Their first joint album is a perfect blend of two different musicians and songwriters
@@mnickrowe I have no idea who those people are 😭. As a semi-veteran Swiftie though I really need her to add a nice collab album to her catalogue. Previously I would think Ed Sheeran might make a great option but on second thought bon is a much better pick. Their work is better, they contrast each other nicely, they'll likely come up with a better range of sounds for the tracklist and there will be better substance in lyrics.
@@homidjohn if you’ve never discovered them before, and enjoy music on the singer songwriter folk side, highly recommend their album. Alison Krauss is a known American folk blue grass singer who I think if I remember right was with Taylor during the year she received a country music award for her impact in country music around 2013. Did that great live acoustic version of Red on stage with some known county bluegrass greats. And Robert Plant, known as the leader of the band Led Zepplin if you know and love 1970s hard rock band. The album I’m referring to is Allison Krauss and Robert Plants first joint album called “Raising Sand” that came out in 2007. They came out with their second joint collaboration album “Raise the Roof” which came out in 2021.
this was such an interesting concept! but it got me thinking, if you guys are still doing the sister song series, you should do Dear Reader and I Hate It Here! they're both songs about how she feels alone and how she reacts to it, and tbh, i hate it here could honestly be a 3am track on midnights
great podcast as always!
the sister songs series WILL be returning x
thanks for replying!!!
Madeline literally created „Female Rage - the Musical“ playlist. I genuinely believe there should be a staged theatrical performance based on this playlist!!
And Zach‘s playlist sounds like „Haunted“ - the musical, the story of broken hearted. I think Taylor should go for them Tonys 🙌🏼😂
i was just listening to "i hate it here" cuz i hate it HERE (work) today, and then this dropped. no more diva down. diva up!!!
p.s my deepest condolences for Gertrude Zach, i know that pain isn't one you can move on from, but only forward.

Could we get these as playlists on your Spotify accounts?! They’re so well crafted!
mine is on my spotify!
The transition from I look in people's windows to who's afraid of little old me? OMG!!!
When you presented your prompt, my first thought was immediately The Prophecy, so I feel validated that you both included it.
No driftwood is giving me a fossilized part of one’s self that has been emotionally drained and has been dried up but it’s not gone away yet and becomes a part of us that has become almost impenetrable to feelings anymore
The diva has posted! Will love to watch after I finish school
okay so since we're all designing our own delulu taylor albums, my TOP taylor album which i want taylor to make is an epic/fictional album which tells 1 story from front to back. reminiscent of david bowie's "space opera". i think it could be about anything, but knowing taylor, i think it would tell the tale of 2 forbidden lovers who find each other and their passionate love affair - very reminiscent of fairytales - bdilh and love story vibes fr. i don't know if it will happen, but i think taylor could pull it off if she tried hard enough.
The songs in my head for this theme are ivy, dancing with our hands tied, I know places, maroon, so it goes, August, guilty as sin, fresh out the slammer, imgonnagetyouback,....i could go on and on
Taylor Swift is arguably the only person that could ever write* something as riveting as Black Parade, I actually made this point recently. I'm 30 writing a dissertation on MCR for no reason other than to survive depression so like I don't say it lightly.. and I know this is crazy but I hope whenever she "retires" her "singer era" she goes straight to theatre.. Respectfully 😭 I think this is actually where she will be eventually.
Dissecting lyrics from her discography, especially the mad sad girl eras. Is what started to draw true parallels with her artistry and way she creates to the likes of Gerard Way; drastically different but I cannot stress this enough - neither one of them are in the same league as other creatives. It took a long time to wrap my head around it lol
@@mirroball13oh deirntuley ivy - I imagine something like but daddy I love him, ivy, love story, timeless (for the 15th hundreds line), etc. also I think something which leans into this small town vibe so maybe fortnight yo an extent, like perfect Americana, church going god loving citizens, 2 lovers who weren’t supposed to be together, but who fall in love. I really want her to use more church imagery.
@@musicandmaniaoh we definitely need Taylor Swift in theatre. I would personally love a musical or something in liek a love actually format with 10 different love stories all intertwined and each of them are personified by one Taylor album or collection of songs. I also just need her to lean more into visuals and create a beyocne lemonade esque complete visual album.
When Madaline was talking herself down for the first title i felt that in my bones it was so relatable 😭

Y’all should do more album creations like this maybe with different themes of Taylor Swift’s music (magic, revenge, romance, etc) that would be fun!
Mentally I made loml track 5 for this aesthetic so I’m glad you included it! I love that song. SO sad and beautiful and really sounds like it could have been on folkevermore
You guys should try and design a TS12 album concept!! including the title, track list, pinterest board, etc. 🧡
thankful to have witnessed the odyssey you have been on with how did it end ♥️
The comments on this have me dying. It makes it so much more entertaining and enjoyable than just listening to the podcast. ☠️🤣 it is sooooo crazy cool that y’all’s mood boards were so similar. The connection yall have is so envious inducing as I wish I had this with someone ❤
You guys should have fans make their third albums and react to them!
We want an album where she takes this silly tracks titles and fan theories and transform it on an album. Like: Dial Tones, Woodvale, a track named Alison (because of her middle name), Cosmopolitan, etc. It would be fun to see what she would do with this titles.
honestly would not put this past her. after all, we did end up getting karma
initial reaction to Madeline's pinterest board was "don't want no other shade of blue but you"
I love both of these concepts, great job! I really love the title name Driftwood, I think its perfect!
driftwood is the perfect name tbh
I love this type of videos! You really paint the storyline in my mind hehe both album ideas are so interesting!
hehe glad you're getting the vibe!
We were waiting for this meal thank you 🙏🏻
Enjoy!!!!
i feel like a good name for madeline’s album would be offshore. it fits with the ocean theme and the trend of two syllable 8 letter rhyming words. also guilty as sin as a bonus track? “drowning in the blue nile…. he sent me downtown lights” “building up like waves crashing over my grave”… idk im really seeing her vision on this ngl
also on the eras tour!!! if she did it after surprise songs she could dive into the ocean on the stage and then float back out of the water in a pretty flowy dress inspired by water with a variant green seaweed type dress….. and she has a bodysuit underneath inspired by a certain kind of fish. every time she wears the clownfish bodysuit the rep clowns go bananas…. i’m literally seeing it so vividly. chop chop HBIC
i´m so happy bc this is literally what i do in my spotify everyday I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH
Zack, your album includes so many of my faves, but would simply create such a devastating expression on my face by the end
34:33 the laughing in sync is too perfect 😂❤
I love this, I’m not a Taylor swift fan but I’m an art director and it’s so exciting to see fans without limit being creative in this way. You guys have such good curation skills it’s so fun to see
Zach’s board is so 2014 tumblr. A Folkmore sister album with “Effy Stonem being sad, chaotic, hot, and having a psychotic break doing shrooms in the woods”-vibes would be MY dream Taylor album and probably no one else’s.
MINE TOOOOOO MINE TOOOOOO EFFY FOREVER
I love when she says on loml “ you told me a million times “ the bite and cynicism of it is so good
It was so fun to watch this video and then create my own playlist!! Wish I had a swiftie friend to compare it to like y’all do! 😘 thanks for another great video
I am currently curating a Folklevermore combination album on Spotify that creates a cohesive story of love, loss, and finding yourself again. It's been super nerdy and fun. I was definitely inspired by this video to make such a thing and now I will listen to it every day.

Just seeing Madeline’s Pinterest board, hearing the titles and explanation gave me the feels. I’m very connected to water, blue, mystery, depth..so I really connected to her ideas. I wish this was a real album!!!
You released it in the middle of my final 💀
I got the notification and all I could think of is woodvale
Hun zack, you bet I'm creating a play list of first snow!
Thats so good!!
Hii zach
I watched your eras tour predictions video again and...
Some of your ideas are sooo goooodd ✨️
Taylor is not the only Mastermind here💙
Zach and Madeline accidentally having the almost same Pinterest board is peak bestie behaviour ❤ I think "washed ashore" would fit the vibe of what Madeline was describing.
Love the idea behind this episode!! So fun, I kinda wanna do my own now 👀
you should!!
I wish The Anthology had been it's own album because with some edits it could have been a Folklore-Evermore sister album.
At first I didn't think a blue, water theme made sense. But the more I think about it, it actually does. It's different enough to stand alone and similar enough to the nature vibes.
The only thing I'd change is just how saturated the blue theme is. I'd probably hone in more on streams, rivers, swamps, etc. Something more natural looking to give some cohesion
6:53 this is actually exactly how I imagined Midnights aesthetic when it was announced
Love waking up to new EOS at 6am
the best alarm clock...
Madeline’s album should’ve definitely been “offshore” and Zach’s one should’ve been “lovesore” or “coldbore”
lovesore is goooood
These titles are so good!!
I Love that you placed better man on your list Zack !!
Just starting my second listen right before going to work! Unfortunately, I will not be able to finish this second listen as I have to go to my boring, dreary, workplace. Have a nice day Zach and Madeline
Enjoy!!!! xx
So real
Ok my opener is my tears ricochet
Madeline! I actually REALLY love Driftwood as a name! I don't see a cozy cabin beachfront; I ses this like stranded isolated, sad abandoned object in the large abyss of this large void (ocean/lake/pond) Driftwood is a result of some piece of large ship/ boat that has broken down over time and has been "cast" off as it's own. Driftwood is also waterlogged and kind of splintering, weathered, breaking down and I can see that a as really hopless sad, desolate feeling of breaking abandoned in a relationship and reeling from the aftermath. It's the perfect imagery to encapsulate what Folkore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD/Anthology was feeling and culminating too. It's giving a much more dark, depressed, hopeless, disorienting version of Midnights. You slayyyyyyed the theme. Also, the Truman show kind of pulling the curtain and seeing the relationship as this fake thing/ thing you held dear but severly misinterpretted is GENIUS.
For Madeline's idea, perhaps the word "unmoored" would be fitting as she uses that word in the song Evermore, so it would be another subtle link between albums, like when she uses "folklore" in lyrics of Gold Rush.
11:54 "driftwood" sounds cool.
for the album art, I kinda picture Taylor as Rose after she lost Jack off the drifting wooden door.
Ok I’ll be listening to both these “albums” to see how they flow. Also I would love to see you guys do more of this! With different vibes and sounds!
Zach, id love to see you make a TTPD; A Year Later video! See how your thoughts and feelings, especially for The Anthology has changed over the last year and having time to really sit on songs; like you discussed a little bit here with How Did It End
Chaos me would like the 3rd sister album to be all the longings locked in lowercase inside her fault.
Please and thank you Queen.
Snakes, please drop your Spotify playlists of this. Thank you! 💔
I'd love an episode theorizing and designing a TS12 after what was revealed on TTPD.
I can't stop thinking about what it will sound like. I can see a genre shift happening but I hope she decides to put together another 1989/Lover pop bible. I get the feeling that she's not in that headspace at the moment but I'll be happy if there's just one Cornelia Street-esque song on it. Detailed and heartfelt lyrics supported by lively synth production.
Just started the episode! I definitely got the feeling “the anthology” is very much like the long lost woodvale album 🌲 it’s a beautiful work and stands out a lot against the rest of her discography. I will always wonder how it would have been received if it didn’t come out at the exact same time as TTPD standard… I wish we got anthology in the fall 🤨
This!!!
I cannot WAIT for Reputation (Taylor's Version), I became a Swifty after Folklore, so I never purchased Reputation and I'm waiting for her re records to own it

What a fun foray into what might have been!
I need to add these to my Spotify playlists, perfection 👌🏻
I'm listening to this while playing the sims and let me tell you, 19:19 caught me so off guard
Wow, you two just understand my soul. Honestly, my dream Taylor albums. I thought the same thing about the prophecy!!
love this! But also have to tell you Zack -- I listened to Bewitched on your request and OMG wow. What a record.
its AMAZING
Ooh, this is a fun experiment. I think similar to Madeline, I'd rework an existing playlist I have which I called "elegies": a 17-track playlist that "wrestles with the pain of remembering and twists in the heavy pulse of letting go." Originally I only allowed for 3AM, Vault, and bonus material to qualify, but this was pre ttpd, so maybe I'd add anthology as a qualifier and try to limit it to 13 and see what I can get out of that challenge...
Can you guys make an episode where you answer the following question” what kind of world would you have built if you were artist? What kind of music would you have made?’
I am interested to know your answers because both of you talk a lot about other artists world and work and I really want to know what kind of world and art would you have made ?
I'm going to need playlists of these concepts on Spotify with concept covers asap

Renegade is my most quoted Taylor song, no lie
MADELINE!!! The title of your album should be "If she drowns" to combine your ocean and witchcraft themes. If a witch on trial drowned, then they were deemed innocent but nevertheless dead.
