As Jeff the state farm adjuster from another video I watched it isn't gonna work if your gonna do it like that can't be so aggressive it's all about finesse
ATTENTION! I'm a roofer of 15 years, qualified with RCABC, and Red Seal Damper. "Material transfer" will happen if you pull your shingles apart, so will tearing. This will happen even if they're brand new, this is what they're meant to do. Shingles have a tar line on them that seals them down, this seal is meant to last their lifetime. When we determine a roof is passed its lifetime, is degradation of this seal, UV damage noticeable by loss of granulation, and overall quality of the work. Nails will pull through for many reasons. Shingles get thin over time, and on a hot day those nails will pull through with no effort, other reasons is poor instalation, blown through nails, or if you walk on Shingles when they are hot, you will pull the Shingle from the nails. Insurance companies haven't a clue what they're talking about.

He's trying to get the insurer to by a new roof by showing it can't be repaired due to nail pull through and material transfer. Of course the shingle isn't supposed to be strong enough to lift the nail, and transfer could be reduced by heating the seam first or corrected by scraping. If you had to pay for the whole roof yourself you'd patch it, though a roofer like this might try and convince you it wouldn't work.

Are they going to accept that failed repair test because of Matt transfer? Lol I thought you would be looking for any creasing/tearing because of the repair??? Confused…
Yes if claimed on insurance. Area of suspected damage is investigating by adjuster and approved to be repaired. During the repairs roofer will document. If the repair causes more damage due to age of shingles. Repairs will be halted and inspector will return and documents and determine if whole roof will be covered for replacement. This video is a example of that.
That’s the point of the video. It’s a video for “repairability” of damaged shingles. If repairs cannot be made without damaging surrounding roof materials the insurance has to pay to replace the elevation or potentially full roof if there were damaged shingles on every elevation.
Just repair it shingles will bond together over time and obviously you will have material transfer no matter what you do or how you remove the shingles for repair.
To me it looks like roofing and insurance paid repairs is heading in the wrong direction, I have personally never done a shingle roof before last year, but I have done metal roof and clay shingle roof in Europe for 5 years, so last year I needed a new asphalt shingle roof and did it my self, took me longer than I expected, but it went thru 2 storms with heavy wind and rain and is still there with no leaks. I saved a fortune and I think I'll save the money I would be paying insurance and instead fix it my self when needed. At least I don't mind learning or working, but I do mind paying and not getting the work done as it should be done.
Could’ve been easily repaired without replacing the shingle by using mastic and membrane between the shingles. I’ve done it before it is a very good repair
Maybe as a homeowner DIY but you can't do stuff like that when it comes to inspections and insurance claims. If that leaks now you probably won't have an argument with your homeowners insurance and they probably won't cover your roof.
Question. What is the purpose of having small individual shingles? Wouldn’t it be easier to maintain if they were much larger let’s say 5 foot by 3 foot or even larger? I have no background in this. To me just makes sense larger solid shingle less cracks. Thanks for any reply.
I'll ask a similar question back then, if we do have less quantitive but much larger shingles and one has a tear in it you have to replace the entire giant expensive shingle, so why can't we have a bunch of smaller shingles that can compartmentalize the crack to their small area?
Would be nice if technology had a system where that you can put like a code for a house roof and the machine would cut out the exact dimensions of the roof in large sections and snap them together when setting it up. 🤔
Most of all that depends on what climate you're in what time of year it is and what the temperature is outside and then the age of the shingles But you have to bring them up to get the nails out and put new Nails back just the fact of the way sjingle are made Could use a little bit of heat to soften up the shingle though after all it is made of tar or asphalt
This roof is worn out and in need of full replacement..... I remember when we discovered our roof was worn out and leaking. We were having a difficult financial period and roof shingles were really high. But I had to do something. So I purchased rolls of synthetic roof felt and rolled it out while overlapping. I placed multiple weights to hold it down. It stopped the leaks for 8 months until we were able to get a new roof. The contractor said he understood my situation. He also said I probably prevented 20k in additional damage with rotting deck, ruined insulation, mold, and drywall damage. He also said you wouldn't believe the amount of people who shrug their shoulders at deck rot and bad insulation. They say just roof over rotting deck to which he said he turns down the job as that is stupidity on steroids.

the internet is flooded with so called experts just like you. All blabla but 0 knowledge on the subject at hand.
@@zeke5491😂😂😂😂
This guy did just fine I've done hundreds of repairs like this it will not leak as long as there aren't any exposed nails or areas with nails ...and for the love don't reseal a shingle with tar or any other forms of sealants you just block water from escaping if it does get behind geez it's not rocket science
What kind of shoes are you wearing?
Noticed that in another video been outa roofn awhile.
Strap-ons.🤔😱😂😂😂😂
@@stephwatson6157 he's wearing dildos on his feet? You said strap on😂
Not a single person on this video is an experienced roofer
Lmao wtf is this parody?
it's a video for state farm. he's not actually attempting to repair anything. he's going through the hoops they make you jump through to pay out for a new roof after storm damage.
Needs total replacement. Crispy. Yeah I can replace it , but the rest is trash. Bett the gutter has 2" of grit.
Just say it’s out of code during a storm go up there do
Some damage to get it out if codes
This scammer caused more damage to the roof then any storm could😂😂😂😂
this all technology with this type of roof have a flow.why those nails have small heads.make some special nails with wider heads to prevent roof from riping.roofers are not better then insurance company. they just looking for infinite money.
The way roof repairs are argued is a joke.
*laughs in adjustment*
Why people are using this kind of roof. Isn't metal roof a better choice? Sorry I'm not an expert at this, just curious.
I install fireplaces for a living. I wanted to inquire about what ur wearing on your boots and the thing ur kneeling on. Is that anything like a pitch hopper?
I realized through the comments how many dumb homeowners there are. This guy is just pointing to adhesive present on every asphault shingle brand new.
Is this guy trynna do an algebraic equation on the roof?
He is showing that his one shingle repair is causing damage to the roof. I think half of the people commenting work for the insurance companies 😂
BUT YOU DIDNT USE THE STATE FARM ROOFING SNAKE
Careful don't break it . Brittle.
Honestly looks like he missed the nail several times. And tries to pull it with nails still attached.
This is hilarious.
As a Not roofer at all,
I can see that this was done wrong from the beginning to the end, 😬😬😬
That is what happens when you pull a shingle, it rips the seal, can't be helped, also that happens when guys are using guns, nails blast half way through
That’s cool your playing roofer with caulk and again never trust a guy wearing gloves with clean clothes and looks like they never done hard work to do your roof get a real roofer not one that is going to play hop scotch on your roof
i totally agree
As a woman I don't think the roofers hands should be softer than mine 😹
@@rinhyugaa6565 that roofer has TNA hands
No idea what he's doing.
The tar transfered ? No shit Sherlock !
And when you try moving the shingles after heating them so the tar is weakened ?
And what's the purpose
Won't the shingles rebond to each other when the roof gets up to 120 degrees in the hot sun?
Nah because the tar didn't unbond.. it stayed bonded and ripped material off the other shingle.
I'm not a roofer so not sure if this is the right stuff to use.. but I would reseal it with the tar that comes in a tube and use the caulk gun.
@@digi3218 It makes sense now that I've seen more videos.
What a bunch of Mumbo jumbo! 😆
attorney wanted to sue State farm's insurance company attorney wanted to sue state parking
I'm sorry buddy but you're not capable of repairing any roof you have no idea what you're doing please get down it's dangerous up there
Sorry bud youve never dealt with an insurance company or done insurance work in your life
I don’t know this seems like a typical repair. What’s he doing wrong?
Other than it looks like the roof needs to be replaced.
Agreed
Bingo. This could be a simple repair. Since it has become fashionable for these fly by night "contractors" that blitz a storm damaged area and tell everyone they need their entire roof replaced, but wait the driveway needs to be sealed. Oh you need new siding and hell foundation needs to be leveled.
Do not under any circumstance accept an estimate or allow any "roofer" (a group of guys working under their buddy's general contractor license) to get near your roof. Call a local roofer that you know will be there tomorrow. These guys are scam artists and don't know what they are doing.
All you have to do is buy one bundle of shingles, if you don't still have a spare few still laying around from when the roof was done in the first place. Stupid things like this is what drives up insurance prices, this goof is trying to make money from nothing.
The 25k checks for storm chaser for doing roofs coming to a end very soon it's 2022 man just wait and watch
Roofing in the USA is so different from roofing in Europe . Nobody use this shitti shindels here on a Real roof.(house)
Yup, USA is so far behind EU and Asia as for roofing and interior.
They put them on so they can replace them every 10 years it's all one big scam... Look at rich people's house they use wooden shakes last a long time....
He would complicate a Peanut-butter n Jelly sandwich ? Yeah he’s not a Roofer , Colored Chalk ? If never ever seen chit like this before , can’t get any Dumber then this
Are you a licensed insurance adjuster?
Roofer of 45 years South Florida , Family was The First Roofing Company in Florida Repaired Many Shingle Roofs , Stop The Trolling
@@ratcat2096 That’s what I’m not doing. This guy just saved this homeowner a ton of money and headaches from guys like you. Go learn the insurance world before you troll and then hate when someone calls you out. Also if you were a serious roofer of 45 years you wouldn’t be sitting here talking about repairs 💀 Also south Florida must be fun Since Apex Roofing took it over.
Unfortunately punks like this have taken over the roofing world. Used car salesman are a level above them. He probably never pounded shingles in his life and learned how to damage shingles like this in sales training. Before storm chasing took off roofs were repaired all the time. Most common words out of their mouths are either "thhese shingles cant be repaire or we dont do repairs". Millenials !!!
@@markbarlow1675 You’re a funny guy. 🤣 These millennials are putting you repairing boomers out of business. Y’all realize the repairs y’all do are Pennies compared to what these “millennials” are making as well. The real punks are you older dudes with complexes thinking y’all can screw a homeowner on a repair and leave them with a fucked up roof. Y’all are the true used car salesman not us 🤣. Good try though lol
im not even a roofer and the term "material transfer" seems like such a generic term. Pulling shingles apart with a crowbar will make "material transfer" occur on anything that is sealed together with a bond. This video hurt my iq
This guy is ridiculous. Messed up several shingles just to repair one suposedly damaged flap on a shingle. I don't think guy knew what he was doing.
Aw shux now it’s ruined from the chalk lol
H a c k… put out a BOLO for this scammer
What is with the crappy 3- tab shingles in a lot of these videos ?... garbage !!..lol
If you use slate tiles, you don't have this problem
Is this guy a used car salesman on the weekends?
You break the seal...it's no longer any good.
I’m not gonna tell you how to do your job but you’re doing it wrong. It’s all about a little finesse. 😂
*Once again*
MATERIAL TRANSFEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Your doing it hard and with the wrong tool. Lol and that tare seal line is meant for life right? Or untill pulled off prior damaging the seal. Normal and if a roof dont last it all needs to be done period. Roof didnt make it its lifetime. So re due it all.
You can see how slimmsey shingles are all they rely on is the temperature to stick them together. Seems strange when there's a lot of tornadoes there only good for sheds . If you what a proper roof which will last slate and tiles which will last a life time .
the only thing I see wrong is discoloration
Lots of nails out of the field
