This is really cool!! I'm going to try it. The vast majority of research papers that google provides access too are behind paywalls. However, as most universities store these papers on the web, I usually have to use Tor to access them.
Question, We all know Google's search engine is highly censored and only provides access to a fraction of what the web offers. As this is based on google is it also censored?
If your using google then yes. There are other search engines out there. Google is highly biased towards what is in the interest of advertisers. I stopped using it about 5 years ago. I think as projects like this evolve there should be more modularity and the ability to select search provider/API. I pay $10 a month for Kagi as i like to block entire domains from the index and create my own search ranking. This is a much more useful model for AI. As we have all seen Google search AI is hot trash right now. Perplexity or similar with self hosted models is actually more useful to me on modest hardware. Odd times. We need to drop the whole "google it" trend. Google is legitimately garbage now. I believe our only hope is paid search and projects like Perplexica. It will take peer pressure to force devs to get away for trends. If enough people request ALT search integrations they will likely provide it or someone will fork it and add them.

Cool project! I have my own half finished version though the architecture is similar. I lean hard in to Postgres and postgresML and do not want any 3rd party modes. That said the project looks nice! I am always torn between chugging along with my own project or ripping apart another project to adapt it. It's hard to keep up! 😅
