Michael, thanks so much for the call, very valuable even though we didn't come to any specific conclusions. The status in Canada seems to be the best path, I've done a lot of research with your help and I think there's a great solution here where in all reality we're going to look at leaving the country more as travel rather than necessarily moving and including a plan B for future expansion. These things are painfully complex eh? You're in a fun business!

Good points. I am coming from eastern Europe country for me reason to get 2nd citizenship would be:
1 Old block soviet union countries have issues with Russia / now there is war with Ukraine but who know what will go next. There is low-mid chance that we will have some war involving those countries. In case of war you will be called to back to "defend" those countries, with another citizenship you have second identity that can help you live in peace.
Nowadays all Ukrainian men were ordered to back to country to defend it if not they should be prosecuted and go to prison. (since my county i close to Ukraine is not that fun)
2 Political instability - EU can collapse since I was born in Soviet union I see a lot similarities between EU and ZSSR. Both likes central planing "green energy" "fit55" "carbon credits" etc. , most law is drafted to ensure Germany competitive edge but not EU as whole. If we follow money EURO vs (CHF/ USD / SGD ) is falling as currency.
3 Current war in Ukraine and shootings/bombings on atomic reactors is not funny anymore. If something will bow up contamination on eg. food, with some passport I will have place to be able to live and they cannot kick me out.
4 EU rules on many instances like MFID / crypto sometimes is good to have optional passport to be off the hook like US citizens that cannot invest in ICO nowadays.
5 My kids and I if live outside my citizenship country and have second citizenship release me from military duty to defend it.
6 If I forgot renew one passport I always have second to use.
7 EU/West countries they path is to limit your freedom is always good to expand your freedom and be able to counter them.
In Future like 10-20 years as EU citizen I can feel big problems and political instability ahead.

Appreciate the honesty regarding CBI and how it may not make sense if you're from a Western country (except the US) with a lower net worth. Unless you plan on renouncing your Western passport, the CBI passport is probably worse in terms of visa-free access. And the ones that are better, cost a lot more (i.e. the European CBIs).

Important to note that generally the CBI programs only pass down one generation i.e. parents and kids. Sometimes you can include grandparents, aunts and uncles as well, and adult children. Rarely grandchildren.

For a lot of westerners, the rush of a getting a CBI passport is not worth it vs just planning ahead with residencies.
I personally stopped at 3 passports + 1 residency permit in LATAM.
The US passport may go away.

  • @tomrusack3266
    @tomrusack3266 2 роки тому +4

The plague response showed that no passport has an indefinite high value. Citizens were stripped of their rights on a governmental whim. Governments cannot be trusted and it would be financially foolish to believe government is looking out for your welfare. Being a citizen of the world is an investment decision not a lifestyle choice. Also do not confuse price and cost, they’re not the same thing. Cynical, perhaps.

  • @ian7379

A second citizenship as an "insurance policy" makes sound thinking. But there are some issues regarding CBIs that are seldom talked about. For example, will you really be treated like a native by the country granting you the CBI? Regarding residency should you want to live there, or regarding passing on your citizenship to kids born after your aquired the citizenship? How about renewing your passport, will there be special fees applicable for CBI citizens? Not much information to find about such issues online!
