I first met YB Hannah Yeoh during my first year at Sunway University. She was then the Subang Jaya state assemblyperson before YB Michelle Ng, and again, at a mental health forum last year (I was in my second year). Talking about the education system, I think it is not inclusive enough. I'm a special needs, I went to government schools for both primary (SJKC) and secondary (SMK). During my time, especially during the PJ class, the teachers would just tell me to stay in class because they didn't want to be responsible if something happened to me. One point which is true, but the other point, I felt left out. Growing up, I flew back and forth between Malaysia and Australia for physio treatment. We stayed at my dad's uni mate's place with his wife.
His wife is a primary school teacher and we visited the school she was teaching. They are so inclusive with the children, for special needs, they have a teacher assigned to teach on a one-to-one basis. The facilities have everything, the ramps, the disabled washroom. Wow, that impressed us a lot! I hope the Malaysian education system could teach our children to be more inclusive
Jinn needs to let guests talk more.
exactly!. wanted to hear more from hannah but ended up listening to Jin and the other guy talk on things that we didn't want to hear.
You are right..
Yes, jinn shud be more interested in wat Hannah has to say and probe further
We need more ministers like Hannah
She's very inspiring. Love the way she explains right angle perspective one should think from
This podcast really spoke to me. Got me stuck on youtube for a whole hour! Back in form 3, I did not get straight As in PMR. Then in form 4, I failed all my add maths exams and that threw me into the last science class when I entered form 5. Because of that, I could not be elected as the head prefect. Through those failures, I worked my ass off in form 5 and was surprised when I got straight As for SPM which I wasn't expecting at all! Failure can really motivate a person if they take it positively. To all those sitting for major exams, do not give up and try your best! Things will work out one way or another eventually :)
"... to be able to enjoy the sound of rain again." Another great podcast 👍
:)
I think this is your best podcast yet. Very inspiring. Love the exchange of ideas, thoughts and experiences. So many good quotes and advices.
Not sure whether my mom would be proud or angry on me watching this amazing podcast at this hour! 😂😂Thank you Jin! This podcast is really close to my heart❤️❤️
i' m done with the subscription Jinny! I'm also a teacher. SPM results not the end of the world. Be kind to other people as Jinny does right now. We need more Jinny & team! wish you luck, guys!
Worthwhile 1hour on a Sunday afternoon! Good conversations and the 20’s 30’s 40’s POVs and how the full pictures in life is stitched now, interesting.
I agree that kids should be taught survival skills. I'm one of those who did well at school, and then I didn't do well. I was overwhelmed with family, my own emotions and my future.
I actually have been ignoring my feelings about anything, because I was taught that my feelings aren't important and my parents did not tolerate the fact that I might have issues with myself and them. This is on top of comparing me to others, guilt tripping me, scolding me into doing what they want, sometimes scolding me for doing what the other parent wants, scolding me for petty bs like 'clothes not matching colour'.... I'm expected to be obedient, silent, no complaints, excel excel excel kind of person. I have learnt nothing from them, and had to unlearn the things I picked up as a child. Looking back now, for all the perfection and lack of emotions that my parents expected of me, they can't even do it themselves either.
Actually, add emotional management to that. Managing emotions will also help with work and school performance. Most parents just can't manage their own emotions, let alone teach their kids how to do it. My own parents wanted me to excel and have tried their best, but they have stripped me off my emotional management skills, decision making skills and self esteem..... all of which are important to surviving as an adult. One shot those kids can teach their parents in the future as an adult too.
Of course, nowadays I read self-help books and don't hang out with my parents as much la.
..you are only as good as you are needed by the people.." wow if only most of our politicians have this mind set.
"sometimes we are so kind to other people, but so harsh to ourselves"- best quote from this podcast.
thanks for listening!
TQ Jinn & Ryan. TQ YB Hannah. Always a step ahead. Always inspiring and the passion you have in serving the people is what makes me still have hope that our Malaysia has a future. So many important issues that was taken up in this one segment and so much to think about and take away.
Not sure if I’m just emotional but I felt like this whole podcast spoke to me

What a wonderful and insightful session it is.
Actually I learned lots of this in this episode even though I'm just a student
Worth it to watching and listen 👍
Of course there are internal factors to this too as I don't wanna blame the education system for all of my problems but I feel like the education system really shaped the way I think. I'm so afraid of failing and it's so hard for me to even do the things I like without being afraid of being bad at it. I keep thinking "If it goes wrong it's the end. Ppl will say stuff about me. I'm useless." I was so used to learn for the sake of what other people think that even now it's hard learning things for the sake of myself.
So inspired! Keep this up!
I'm happy to listen to this podcast with YB, hope to listen more to this group of people who willing to share their positive insight into themselves and people at large.
Really enjoy this while working. 🙌🙌🙌

thanks for tuning in!
instead of good or bad academic result, the thing that really matters is either capable becoming tauke without needing any qualification or just struggle to get any qualification and work under someone.
Nice 👍 best show in youtube.
i laughed on several occasions during the interview. very interesting discussion which relates to all. And love YB Hannah.
IMHO, an important takeaway from the video is that it's okay to fail sometimes in our lives, do not be too HARSH on ourselves and always explore and learn.

Haha good idea. Both ladies are brains with brawns.
Great podcast. Thanks YB Hannah.
48:05 "I think politics you cannot overstay, people need fresh ideas and you are only as good as when you are needed by the people." - Hannah Yeoh. I'm a Singaporean, and I think she is awesome. Good leaders always place the needs of the people above their own position, fame or legacy. In fact, that is their sole focus in office.
This is precisely the point SG leaders need to understand today. Otherwise, it could be decades spent in key ministerial positions, but the system (e.g. judiciary) has since became worse, and then there can still be time spent on fighting personal allegations.
noticed how Jin has changed his style of talking after becoming a father
We missed her so so much and Hannah is my VVIP in Subang Jaya!
