Danni & Joe
I still can't help but laugh at Danni walking into the wood on top of the boat. Its just as funny watching it a second time 🙂
😫😂
hI Danni, Joe. Joe this weeks' Vlog on the size of boat one should buy, was really interesting. Thank You.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video, very well explained. If you haven't done one already how about on variations of live on boats,
That was a good "thumbnail sketch" of narrow boats and where each size can go. Thanks for that!
Glad it was helpful!
Our boat, Seabrook, was 45 feet when we bought her. This was fine while we were just spending weekends on her, but we soon realised that we would need extra space, once we lived aboard. Two years ago we had her stretched by 10 feet to create an extra room. Fairly expensive but not as expensive (or as much hassle imo) as selling and rebuying. Best thing we ever did 😊
Yeah that’s exactly what I’d like to do in the future!
Good info 👍
It's ashame the whole system isn't wide and completely linked. A croudfunder would be good 🤔
Greta video! 👏🏻 we are also 50ft and find the size perfect! So many mooring spots we’ve been able to fit into we wouldn’t be able to otherwise! 😊
Ahh didn’t realise you were a 50ft as well, definitely helped you in London though fingers crossed we’ll be able to squeeze in where a lot can’t!
You did a great job explaining narrowboat sizes. As y’all know I don’t think I’ll ever be buying one much less living on one. But I think a 60 foot would work for me. Thank you 🙏 for sharing this with all of us.
Thank you!
Thanks Joe, looking forward to the doors! Best wishes Christine x
Thanks Christine!
No ads just love it😊
I don't mind the ads... except the long non-skippable adds. Mind you, even if your channel is not commercial UA-cam still puts adds in every now and then. I've uploaded a few clips and have no say whatsoever in the adds that UA-cam adds randomly.
Excellent, informative, concise video Joe. Would never think you guys were relative newbies. Nice one. Safe travels.
Thank you, appreciate it!
Hi Joe very interesting. Love the details you offer to us about the up keep and costs of narrow boating locks canal and mooring up. Different sizes of the boats that driver up and down the canals and river. Great video. Looking forward to the next update and details fabulous 👍
Cheers!
Good info for people to think about if you were looking to buy
Cheers!
Loved the vlog great information for anyone thinking of buying one. Have great week 😊
Thank you! You too!
Our current boat is our fourth boat. We only use the boat for holiday cruising and still every boat we bought was a bit longer than the previous one. Current boat is 40ft and that is a perfect size (beam is just under 12ft). In the end, what you want inside is space. Space to live and - even more important - ample space to store your stuff. My advice would be to hire a boat for a holiday and experience for yourself how much space you actually need.
Yeah that’s a really good call on hiring one before.
Coffee, croisand and then nice to whats dennie and joe 🙂👍
Perfect!
Loving your regular content guys! (Hope you're not feeling too burnt out Joe). I'm turning into a super-fan 🤩
Thank you! It’s been pretty hectic so a couple of shorter videos helped out a bit to be fair. More on the way!
I’d need about a hundred feet to be comfortable! 😂 and two toilets. Glad the back doors will be on soon, they are so lovely.
Haha it’s surprising what you can fit in a tiny space! Yes they are so beautiful we are very happy with them!
I found a 55 if a narrow and 45 for a wide beam, that way the costs work out about the same for running/maintenance, but the wide does some what limit your network travel in the Midlands area, South and Norfolk Broads/river Trent is very wide beam friendly... I used to travel around the South in the late 90's/early 2000's in a 45x11 and to me was the perfect size for easy steering and ample living (the waterways were a lot, and I mean a LOT less crowded back then though).
That’s interesting! I’ve noticed how wide the wide wide-beams are, some are 9ft aren’t they?
But yeah it does seem carnage to move the widest of ones
Very nice video Joe, thank you.
Cheers!
Beautiful boat.
Thank you!
Thank you very informative
Thank you glad it helped!
Great! Very informative, thanks!!!
Cheers!
Ours is 70' and she feel like an utter beast sometimes :') don't think I could bring myself to downsize though unless I find myself widowed at some stage. I don't like doing uber corners in her, and some locks make me hold my breath and try to suck in a bit haha, but I can fit *so many dogs* in my big lass (two, currently, and a cat, but I'm working on convincing husband to go for dog no. 3) ❤
I do love the extra space but I don't half wish we'd gone for a cruiser or semi trad sometimes, the trad gets a bit lonesome even with walkie talkies and it can be difficult to keep the dogs calm at times when they're on the roof. We have an engine room, so I'm not sure we would have lost much internal living space by having a cruiser or semi trad.
We went on a 70’ for the first time the other day, 20’ longer than ours really felt the difference inside!
😂😂 plenty of room for more dogs!
OOOOOOOOO Dannykins 😂 Nice reporting
😂😂
Very informative 👍,
Thank you!
I heard recently that because everyone knows about the magic number of 58 ft in length, longer boats than this can be cheaper to buy. Older boats that may have once been working boats are often longer than 60 ft.
That would make sense if the demand is higher for that size in particular!
They dont just go by the lenghth of the boat anymore they also go by the width of it
Yeah double whammy!
We're looking to buy a narrowboat currently - do you know the thickness of your baseplate and sides and how deep the pitting was to need puddle welding? Got a survey booked in a couple of weeks and curious to hear about your boat of a similar age! Thank you! 🛥
I know that our baseplate was completely overplated, I believe with 6mm I’m not 100% though as that was a couple of years ago & done right before we bought it. Honestly not sure on the pitting, the surveyors are usually on it though if you’re after any advice on the boat!
70 foot minimum lol 😂
I remember that when she banged her head
😂😂
57 foot so you can explore the entire network
Agreed 😍
A loner of any size of boat suits.
A couple then it depends solely on both having the same tastes in television watching and or music hobbies etc.
If both have different tastes then size does really matter because you're both needing your own space on the boat.
70ft is fine for space but by god they take a lot of looking after.
62ft should give two separate spaces and or 60 / 58 / 57.
Don't make a bad mistake of thinking the size of the boat doesn't matter.
Unless you have exactly the same tastes and outlook as your partner/ spouse then your journey will fail.
My husband and I watch whatever we like on our laptops. You don't need a tv at all.
This must be your subject. Not a single bird!
Nothing to hurt myself on I guess! 😂
6:43 - Anyone know where to find that map or another one showing the wide canals? The link in the text on it goes to a site that looks to have been redesigned as 'interactive' and I'm not finding a static map like that or a way to filter their online map. (Have no interest in giving them my email address to download some per canal guide either.)
Nothings free in this life, but a search for canal map UK will come up with images you can look at to see where the fat boats can and can't go
Anything about 57ft and you can not do a 1/ 3 of the network can't do the north canal
Did someone say ‘stern doors’ 🫣😳😂??
Coming soon! 😂😂
