Unfortunately, this isn't a studio recording and not remastered. Enjoyment somewhat limited due to the poor live performance audio quality of Italian TV at that time. To fully appreciate Bastianini's baritone vocal power (velvet) and brilliant sound source: "You Tube: "Eri Tu" Ettore Bastianini, Studio Recording GD, 1961.
Such videos, no matter of what quality, are of great value, because they connect us with opera's most glorious days, which, I am afraid, have elapsed for ever. Thank you for the post.
I had the privilege of seeing Bastianini several times later in his career. I also was privileged to see Gencer at the Rome Opera in1966. She was a great soprano who understood that opera was not just a concert in costume, as of course, did Bastianini.
Thank you for this video. I had not known about the existence of any videos of this performance . A historical video ith great singing by Bastiniani andf Gencer.
This movie is really how Trovatore is meant to be - god tier singing all around, passionate, a bit over the top. Also, Del Monaco and Bastianini can believeably pass as brothers.
If Verdi had written only this one opera he would still have been my favorite composer of all time. Bastianini's early death was a real tragedy. (Try not to look at Gencer's headgear.)
Trovatore de luxe--all of the principals in prime voice--Del Monaco, Bastianini, and Gencer in the Act 1 terzetto are also wonderful and Barbieri as Azucena is simply not to be missed. Thank you.
What a joy to listen and watch this amazing two giants in opera history .. both singing and acting are wonderful, agree real Jewel, Thank you for posting and and two my fiends Kievest and corellithebest for sending, delightful indeed
The singing is fabulous! Visually her acting is a bit overwrought! But just listening, it's incredible vocal acting! She's really very special and he's in a class by himself! In my opinion, the greatest Verdi baritone after Warren.
Bastianini before Warren. This is a poor audio live Italian TV recording. No clarity. To fully appreciate Bastianini's vibrant sound & large brilliant top range source a studio recording-- You Tube: "Eri tu" Ettore Bastianini, Studio Recording DG 1961. You Tube: Ettore Bastianini, "Eri tu che macchiavi," Mask ed Ball. Without peer. - Gencer very "operatic" high drama but fun to watch.
"Mira d'acerbe lagrime (feat. Mario Del Monaco, Leyla Gencer, Ettore Bastianini)" di Orchestra Sinfonica e Coro di Milano della Radiotelevisione Italiana, Fernando Previtali, . duetto magnifico
This is simply OTHERWORLDLY, SUPERB! What an electrical and highly artistic performance from two immortals: the unforgettable Ettore and glorious Leyla! Many heartfelt thanks to FrancoMFT8 for uploading and to Kiewest (Candy) for sharing with me this operatic jewel!
It is very difficult to get valid searches for subtitled videos! Would it not add immeasurably to know what words they were saying for those of us not being Italian speakers???
Jon Laan It's very difficult also for italian people translate in english the Trovatore because the words that are used are in ancient italian. Some words are no longer used today.

Bastianini was simply sensational. A supreme talent, without equal, lost far too soon.
Bastianini has the most beatiful bariton voice

Tacchini e anatre.... Cioè posso morire....!!!! 😂 😂 😂 🤣🤣👍👍👍
I think that Ettore is the best verdian-baritone.
I had the privilege of seeing Bastianini several times later in his career. I also was privileged to see Gencer at the Rome Opera in1966. She was a great soprano who understood that opera was not just a concert in costume, as of course, did Bastianini.
I love how these two just tear the HELL out of this moment! Brilliant!
My favourite baritone. The best ever. So sad that he died so young.

NESSUNA DISCUSSIONE ANCHE PER IL MIGLIOR TENORE, BASTA DIRE DEL MONACO.

Verissimo.

GOD she’s like butter ❤️❤️❤️❤️
meravigliosi entrambi .
A higly valued and priceless historic registration !!!! ~always a joy to listen to.
The best.

Hermosa Gencer.
So grand. Great performance!
Can we talk about how low-key hot Ettore Bastianini is in this?!?
Superb! Two of my favourite opera singers.TY Candy for sharing and Franco for posting.
Leyla Gencer🇹🇷🤍🙏

I guess you would be surprised to learn how many people don't like opera? My friend likes some of it--Mozart--but calls Verdi--'carousel music'!
Gencer the best!
