I am looking forward to join you at least on one breed - Though I am not sure if it is white or grey Faced Dartmoor. This Summer we visited dartmoor and Stades at Marylou who gifted me a peace of one of her Fleetes from Last year. ☺️🎉 She has a really nice flat, that you can Rent in the middle of the national Park 😍
I’ve heard (?) that charity’s don’t like knitting made of wool (preference is acrylic!). How do you get on there?? I have to wash my fleeces in the WINTER months… this is when we have heaps of water and the backwet on the fireplace. To aid in drying the wool, I have a big cupboard with a “Dampchaser cupboard and small space heater for wardrobes” Wool is dry within 48 hours. Power consumption is very very low!
We are rarely short on rain water even in the summer but it is a good point and increasingly a consideration for lots of folk. I hadn't heard about charities not liking wool but I can see why they might not .
Becca, I will hold on to this, at the moment I am almost all packed ready to move home soon. But I am very interested in spinning. I am up to my eyes at the moment with Christmas knitting. But will be very keen to learn from you. Lol....I am also very much a starter. But in the last 2 years I have become a finisher too. Time allowing and my little dog snoozing.
I have a breed study blanket that I started a year or two ago so I will continue on that, I’m from Canada so I’m not sure about rare breeds. I’ll do more research.😊
I tend to find that it's hard to complete a project if there's a mistake or a design problem. So I'm wondering if there is something you don't like about your socks and that's the root cause of the Second Sock Syndrome. I am looking forward to seeing the rare breed wools as they are spun. These days "cotton" or "wool" often tends to be a bit monolithic, as so few varieties or breeds are used for making yarns.
The sock pattern is a new pattern to me. I've been knitting the same vanilla pattern written for 2 ply for about 25 years I can do it with our thinking so a new pattern could be the problem . I messed up the heel 3 times on the second sock . I think its easy to just spin merino and merino type wools so I thought it would be fun to explore a little . Its year since I did a breed study.
Your spinalong sounds great. Manx Loaghton, I think you're in for a treat! I started spinning last year and almost immediately went into a deep dive of a breed study (hello ADHD) and found this breed to be an absolute delight! I have a couple of different breeds lined up in my spinning bag but would love to add a couple of rare breeds to join in with your spinalong. I'll do some research first - I'd want to wear the items, so for me I'd be looking at a certain micron count. When I get the weaving bug, some day, I'm sure that will open up even more options. 😍
I worked with some Manx Loaghton when I first learned to spin so I am looking forward to working with it now I am a better spinner. I will be posting a suggested breed list in the community tab here and on my IG.
@bybeccalewis that's a good point, it would be really interesting to return now as a more experienced and consistent spinner. Will I love the Manx Loaghton just as much, now? In other news though, I do love new things/learning. After one of your previous episodes, I was prepping and spinning a small amount of Gotland fleece yesterday. It was really enjoyable - mainly for the gentle colour variation. 😊 I will keep an eye out for your list of rare breeds to consider!
Hi Becca, I hope you're all OK xx ❣️❣️❣️🐕 Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast and for putting together a Rare Sheep Breed Study. This is going to be so interesting, informative and a lot of fun too.🤔🤔😅😅 I've just followed your link to WOW but I don't seem to be able to find 3 of the 4 sheep 🐑 breeds you mentioned. I was trying to write them down but the Manx Loaghtan was the only one I got and the only one I can find. Do they do a rare breed list on their website???? I think this is going to keep us well occupied during the winter months and especially for us that are more or less housebound. 😊😊😊 Happy Spinning Special Fibre Friend 🎡🥰🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe Lots of love, Blessings and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐕🫂🫂 Glad that Millie didn't eat the Postman😂😂 🐕🫂🫂

Fantastic , Flora Mouflon is the podcast I talked about , however she has taken down her content, she is a busy mum and I think there were moving house which is probably why. She is still on IG. . I am going to do a little digging and see if I can find out if there is a rare breed sheep list for Australia that I can point people towards. Thank you for watching

I'm not very good at 'alongs' so I'm not joining in, but I will be following with interest.
It will be lovely to have you follow along
I'd love to join in. Can you tell me the name of the podcast you mentioned about rare breeds in Australia. Flora?
