      Nvm people living 3000 years ago

    • @SicketMog
      @SicketMog 2 роки тому

      Copying my comment from the other thread: As a beginner... How would you go about picking this one? With my first training locks, see-through padlock and normal padlocks, I am resting the first pin on the tumbling part... This is like a pin tumbler but it doesn't rotate to rest that first pin on top of the mechanism. Here all of the pins need to be lifted at the same time for the board to slide out. To my beginner eyes this almost looks like a safer lock than a modern padlock(!?).
      Edit: I guess you could MAKE a key for this pretty easily but I'm talking about picking on the spot to be clear. Doable? The weakness I spot, this is just me speculating, is that it's so wide that you could get three L-shaped picks in to lift the pins all at once(?). Since they just go straight up and don't have a point that's too high it'd be easy to hold. If the opening was thinner, the pins heavier or both it'd be less easy(?).
      Anyway I knew about this design already but it's pretty cool that locks were this good so far back. Would be such a cool feature to hide the key for something like this in another wooden feature in your home. Nice work it looks great.

      I have an older brother, but he did not like to watch our dad repair or do something, that's why I always helped him, and now in my home I am the person who repairs and creates things, but I still have to fight for new tools (usually I'm winning ;p). Now I am getting my husband used to the thought that when we buy a house, a lathe will be in the workshop :)

    It’s really good to see someone who claims to be a carpenter use his hands instead of machining every last piece and calling it hand made. One tip....if you extend your knife wall down the edges you want to cut, it will guide the saw and help stop it drifting to the side. Also, invest in some good chisels. Barr are the best. Hellishly expensive, but you only buy them once. Subscribed.
