Fun fact, one of you guys mentioned "you're literally a project planner", grian actually did plan his irl house design in Minecraft and used it to explain to the engineer and architect he contracted
He was actually an architect before going full time on minecraft
@@yes5794 HE WAS? I actually didn’t know that but it makes sense
@@yes5794 oh rlly cus i didnt know
@@yes5794 well, that explains how he is so good XD
@@yes5794 I guess become an engineer because you WILL be better at minecraft
Also Grian was the one that came up with the whole upside down in the nether deal. 10/10 concept
No he wasn’t. He was just the first one to do it with the subscribers he has to make him seem like he did. Anyone that watched stranger things probably thought it before him.
@@MB-ln4yx We're clearly talking about building upside down in the nether on Hermitcraft in that particular season in reference to what Hitch said, so yes he was the one that came up with the idea in this case. No one is talking about who was the 1st ever MC player to come up with it and Xisuma already had an upside down tower as his nether hub section in the previous season
@@pm-5565 X had upside down tower in the same season(7). Although Scar made an upside down (and scaled down) version of his city in Season 5.
Yeah
@@pm-5565 not really “clearly” because you didn’t specify that in your original post
doc definitely needs to be up next !!! with him breaking minecraft and his builds are also insane too
Doc's season 8 is straight fire
it has just been uploaded, but i would LOVE to see them react to doc's world eater this season. his video was 1 hr long, and my jaw was dropped for 1 hour as well. it is just insane
the only issue with doc is that unless you understand his redstone it makes little sense, otherwise the design of his general structures is awesomely creative.
yes! i know they've already seen the Octagon, but I'd love to see their brains get fried from both his building skills and his redstone skills.
@@eonaon6914 it is true, but it also in season 8 he has the octo-chunk, the shadow block, so he teleports and has "infinite inventory", the gold farm, the octagonal nether portal without obsidian, he made a tunnel board, in this current season he made the world eater. He is very technical but it's not difficult to watch and enjoy. For technical staff only it's scicraft, and doc and many of the hermits are very close to each other. The important thing to understand is how what he does is a glitch, or a non intended mechanic. He does things that doesn't suppose to happen
''these are young kids, creating true art'' it is art, true - but Grian is 28 and most of the rest are in their 30's and 40's. The only one who might qualify as a kids is xB Crafted - born in 2000 - but even that isn't confirmed by him or anyone he knows.
I was just gonna say this.
I'm pretty sure Gem and maybe Pearl are younger (though not _kids_ in any real sense of the term).
@Quinly Voss Wow. I knew Mumbo presented older than he was (mainly because of his MC skin), but I never realized he was younger than Grian.
Tin Foil Chef is the oldest although his age isn't known for sure
Gem is the youngest I think
12:54 Fun fact! In season 7, grian actually watched a 2 hour long movie while taking down leaves for a shop, pesky bird. It was a custom shop for Iskall who was building a giant tree. Grian has also spent 10 hours and more on builds! The hermits are very dedicated to their videos. (I also know a lot more about grian because I’m a huge fan :3)
Shout out to Mumbo's favorite neighbor, not only a great builder but he is great fun too his mischievous shenanigans are always on point
16:52 "i need to show a 50 year old person this" who's gonna tell them how old TinFoilChef is LMAO
They said non-gamers tho…?

20:00 You want a guy who just flies around Hermitcraft looking at things, a bit of a builder but mostly just constantly supporting their fellow hermits, showcasing their skills as Minecraft players but also as videomakers? Look no further than Joe Hills (recording as he always does from Nashville, Tennessee), who joined in the first ever season way back in 2012 and was also the original New Guy (a.k.a not a founding member). He's been a weird little delight ever since!
Also you mentioned the HCRecap, and it would be so cool to see you guys react to a couple episodes of that! Season starts are always great Recap episodes ^^
perfect response.

Would be nice if he built too
Grian, the Dreamslayer, the man, the myth, the legend
The architect
The light of the server
@@RobinxRaven12 The secret master!
Just prior to him joining hermitcraft he ran a series that started at some of the earliest beta versions of minecraft and would periodically move forward in versions, looking at the way builds progressed as the "technology" of minecraft evolved. Even with very limited block choices he really managed to build some crazy stuff in that series (EVO). Above and beyond his ability to build insane things Grian is king mischief maker. HIs pranks are some of the funniest moments I've seen on UA-cam gaming.
Really someone should take some of the major story arcs from past HC seasons and edit them into features. The Hermit civil war from season 6 would be a dope "mini-series" Grian's team in their Brita filter of doom base going to all out war against Docm77's crew in their insane Star fort. Very epic...
Most people in HC makes things in creative first, there's also a mod that shows you a "blueprint" of the builds, that's why they often build things in layers
Litematica right?
@@alexholmquist9298 yep
@@alexholmquist9298 but scar... does he use it? His building always looks a little spontaneous which scares me because it always leads me to the question of "how much is this mans improvising?????"
@@WhatIsMyPorpoise he plans out concepts, but I don’t think he builds entire structures to recreate based on his videos. He speaks and build as if it’s spontaneous to keep it natural with terraforming. I think he did make the ship in S9 beforehand tho
that's wild, i've watched almost all of season 7 8 and 9 and had no idea they were using a blueprint mod, lol.
While this was a nice showcase of Grian's builds, there's so much more to what he does on Hermitcraft. He's orchestrated several of my favorite pranks and server-wide events. He's funny in collab videos regardless of who he's working with. Since joining Hermitcraft he has worked hard to become good at all the non-building aspects of Minecraft to where I'd say he's one of the best SMP Minecraft players on UA-cam currently.
grian actually made a video about his process of planning a mega build together with pearlescent moon. its called "how to build megabases in minecraft"
Dude you have gone for the 3 Big Ones, now show them the 3 Crazy Ones, Bdubs megabuilds, Tango Crazy Redstone (Decked Out!) and Doc' Game Breaking Tech. Also shout-out to Pearl, who has fewer episodes on account of being new to the server, but is a Crazy Good Builder (and the creative partner to Grian)
Random fact:
Before Grian was in HC (joined in season 6), he had his own SMP called Evo. The premise was that they were playing in the older versions of Minecraft, and they slowly updated the game over time. I remember when Grian's series there ended; it was around when he joined HC.
Before Grian did Hermitcraft, he was actually in a survival minecraft series with some of his friends called EvoSMP! It was still going when he first started Hermitcraft, but I think somewhere in his first season, it ended. EvoSMP basically started back in some of the oldest versions of minecraft and very slowly progressed to newer ones. So it's not that he wasn't playing survival at all when he joined, it was just him being used to playing very outdated versions. He didn't even know much about enchanting!
The hermits are a very kind bunch, I'm certain if you approached them with a proper idea, they'd be open to let you make a documental about hermitcraft and their creative process. I'd be down to watch it.
I need a SciCraft Reaction. SciCraft is absolutely absurd... it puts mumbos contraptions to shame in scale...
SciCraft is just all huge redstoners who just push the game to the limit and have absolute massive obscene redstone creations.... I need to see their dumbfoundness to it.
Yeah I think a hood video would be when they invited mumbo to the server
They should use the videos where Mumbo visited Sci Craft probably some of the best to react because they go around and explain a lot
theMisterEpic ones are better for them since in Mumbo Vid pretty advance term used
@Sprint352 not to discredit Mumbo, but he is nowhere near Ilmango's level. Hell, he isn't even on Docs level atm XD
@@keithgraham8588 to be fair, mumbo has never made it a goal to be the best redstoner. He just makes stuff for fun and for the challenge.
World Edit is a mod, so you're playing the game like normal (generally in creative, although it's not blocked from working in survival) and can also make all sorts of changes with commands to select and edit areas or to create a brush tool to paint the changes in where you're looking.
I don't know what it's called but it's something entirely different going into an external program to edit a map on a large scale. Using something like that can certainly lead into working in-game with World Edit as the next step though. Someone could design custom terrain for an entire massive continent and then go into the game and make tweaks with world-edit while working on a whole bunch of builds spread across it all. (That's what someone called TrixyBlox has been up to over the last year for what he's calling the Ultimate Survival World. ("Survival" because the intention is for people to download it and explore it in survival. He was of course in creative for all the building.) Continent covers millions of blocks worth of area and is divided into 10(?) biomes and features a massive interconnected cave system underneath it all as well. And he's been building civilizations in each biome (each civilization takes inspiration from different sources) and there's all this lore behind everything which people will eventually be able to discover for themselves as they explore when it becomes available for download. Each video he's put out covers his work on each biome, and his girlfriend has put out a few videos explaining some extra details on some of the story elements in it.)
Grian is cracked man but y’all need to watch docm77 next, he’s the one who breaks the game most the time and is veteran player
100% but I think they have to wait til the whole world eater stuff comes out tho. Doc is the most underrated hermit by far
@@pm-5565 yeah true for sure, can’t wait till they hear the music he’s using for his intro in season9 they’re gunna love it
@@pm-5565 he just uploaded about an hour ago :0
@@agendapiece-e1i !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not a hermitcraft season without Doc breaking the world somehow. It's just not a season. Same as how it's not a Scar video without him either almost dying multiple times or dying multiple times.
I've watched a lot of builders and I have come up with 5 key tips to building.
1. Nothing in real life is a perfect square, shape, or color. so use texturing(multiple similar color blocks) or depth(blocks being "sticking in" or" jutting out" of the build"
2. Start with a frame and dontbe afraid to make weird shapes. make your builds bigger than you think they will be because you end up filling in a ton of space with bocks
3. Pick a solid color pallete and stick to it. Use the same colors for the same parts of your build. roofs should have similar colors for the beams and shingles, consistency and filling out your build with lots of different, but similarly theme objects is key
4. Vary the levels of your build, and vary the level you build on so that it fits the landscape instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.
5. Go into creative mode with blocks you want to use and start fooling around, making detailing, adding depth to basic wall designs etc. Then apply those in your survival world and it will go so quick
6. Another tip I remembered. Use angled builds. dont always make your builds flat and on a right angle. his towers look amaing and they are diagonal
9:30 what most of the hermits do for the larger builds is first build it in creative. Then they use a client side mod called litematica to basically make a schematic of it. When they get onto the server, they load the schematic up, and litematica displays it like a hologram which is only shown to them (they can make it display in different ways, like one layer at a time). It also tells them exactly what they need.
17:00 Ah, yes. Grian, the 29 year old kid
You earned my sub when you said "This server is the coolest thing in gaming." I've been watching the Hermitcraft since Season 2.
Needs me some BDoubleO100 reactions. He’s such a fantastic builder.
Yeah they were surprised that they build mountains and I'm like wait till they see bdubs 😂
+1
for sure that guy never fails to floor me
I don’t know a better builder.
Grian actually has two videos on how to build mega bases 9:30
3:05 He does in fact have it insured in case the server crashes but a simple creeper isn't enough to do any harm, he would just have to rebuild it.
21:09 It is tinted glass layered with end rods in between to give a fog effect
Gathering materials and actually building are you huge but you also gotta take into account how much it takes to always be turning out unique and interesting builds. The amount of time they have to spend thinking as well... Astounding
Keep this series going forever!! You guys should do BdoubleO and Etho that would blow their mind for sure lmao
Some of the hermits build in creative first and some don't, as far as the process of you watch through the season each one goes about explaining theirs process as they are doing the builds or planning for them.
Also if I remember correctly Grian does use a test world first and some of the hermits also be have team members who help them design
The amazing thing about minecraft is that it appeals to people of all ages, especially when you mentioned showing these builds to a 50 year old, I know for a fact many of them are in their 40s, for example docm77 is 46... So, yeah, many of them are past the age where you would expect them to be full time per se. Also, not trying to bring up tragic stories, but one of the members, TinFoilChef, recently passed away, he was more than 60 years old, while he wouldn't play that frequently any more because of his age, he still made a few videos on the latest season. So yeah, while Grian is very young, there are many old hermits. Of course, I agree with your point - the average 50 year old would probably be flabbergasted if they had any prior concept of what minecraft was.
You mentioned how he hadn’t played survival in a while but he was on the Evolution smp (an smp he made) a while back and left it to join hermit craft season 6
Heres the scoop, they use "litematica" so they can easily build the one they built in creative. Litematica is an in game program in minecraft where you can copy the image of a build and you can see how much materials you need and also you can see where to place the blocks when you set up the image in your survival world.
btw, there's a tradition in hermit craft called hhh or hermits helping hermits where once a week, any available hermit helps other hermits with big projects like gathering tons and tons of resources for mega builds. And they stream it too
There is at least one video I know of, not sure which season, where Grian, Mumbo, and a couple of other Hermits talk about how they come up with their designs. They basically create their builds in their own creative worlds to mock up what they are going to build on the Hermitcraft server. Also I think its funny he thinks the Hermits are young kids when I believe that all of them are between 20-50+.
The amount of grinding he does to collect the resources is insane
The trick from getting it from creative to the SMP is Litematica for most of the hermits. That's why you see them building layer by layer. But the dedication on Hermitcraft is just awesome. You also should watch ImpulseSV. What he did with his massive factory in the shortened 8th season was just massive.
Grian suggested the Upside Down. It was his idea. He got BDubs, Etho, & Scar involved with it
As far as I'm aware, Etho wasn't a part of the Upside-down, but Mumbo was
@@fnaffoxy1987 He built a lantern hanging from the ceiling although people pointed out it wasn't upside down
@@Matt-jq7zw Okay, I forgot about that
6:47 "it doesn't even look like Minecraft" .... I think I've been watching too much Hermitcraft, because this is very par for the course to me
17:00 could just be me misinterpreting his words, but Grian's married.
btw, grian joined hermitcraft in season 6, there were seasons before he joined
Starting a minecraft build is usually just laying down random shapes with some wool to get the rough shape. Once you've got the basic shape down you would get the pallet(the colors) all sorted out, after that you would start adding the details, which could come as windows, extra shapes, or pretty much anything else that would make sense, then you would be pretty much done save for some final adjustments if necessary. of course it would take a while for each of the steps, and this is like the bare bones, but that is roughly what most people do, I have a few time-lapses showing the rough process on my channel but I haven't finished any of my large builds yet so it would be like a scaled down, less good version of what grian may do
I’ve never understood how these guys can make such amazing builds in the nether without ghasts being a major issue. I can’t go 20 blocks in the nether without getting hounded by 2 or 3 ghasts immediately.
pretty sure its slabs, like... everywhere
@@RebelSympathyzr that would make sense. I play very casually but in my next world I will try that out. Thanks!
@@jeremyweaver8546 just make sure there isnt enough room above the slabs for them to spawn
I think they *were* hounded by ghasts - Scar even built a Ghastbusters firehouse
loved this! - it was a very accurate depiction of how I always react to Grian and Mumbo and other Hermit's videos they're insanely talented and rly enjoyed watching you guys react to them xD
Grain listens to like the same 3-4 audio books while building, I forgot where he said it. I think it was an ad
Most of the music Grian used in this season was made by Jono Smothers, the IRL brother of another Hermit, RenDog
All of this build up to the Sci-craft world tour with Mumbo is epic!
I only started watching Hermitcraft on season 8 because of Pearl and Gem. Who were both in Empires SMP, and the reason I even knew about Empires is because of Pixlriffs.
Man that was on hell of a journey.
Well to sum up I did start Grian's videos on season 8 and went to Season 6 and 7.
Man Grian is just one of the best builders Ive seen, and fun to watch.
I don't know Grians process but a lot of hermits use litematica to get their design from creative to the server. They still have to build it twice it just helps with going layer by layer.
All your videos on the Hermitcraft crew always end up in my recommended haha. I started watching Grian shortly before he joined Hermitcraft for season 6 and have been following more and more of the Hermits as I've watched Grian play with them. I really like the way he records videos for series like these because he will show off his friends creations or just prank them in silly ways so that you end up going "wow, now I wanna go check out this other person's channel."
I mainly started watching Scar and Mumbo because of Grian messing with them and wanting to rewatch it from the perspective of the person being pranked.
If you keep doing this, I think some of the best people to show next are: doc (both his redstone and his builds), keralis, and bdubs.
I do love the "boatem crew" of course (and would not complain if you showed of impulse as well) but there are definitely some skilled Hermits outside of that little circle of friends.
Its not only for those that are younger, one of the hermits is quite a bit older and still dose fantastic builds. Love all of them.
petition for y'all to react to Bdubs's builds !! particularly his castle in season 6, the castle and massive cliffside in season 7, and then his moon base and the mountain in season 8 ! I love this series of you guys reacting to hermitcraft builds, I've been a fan of hermitcraft for years now and it's so nice to see other people excited about the same things I'm excited about !
I would like to point out that Grian founded the upside down. It was his idea.
As far as I know he watches builds in real life and tries to bring them into Minecraft. For season 8 and his Harry Potter themed alley, he was in old British towns and look at them, took some fotos you know and rebuild them in creative first.
And sometime, scar and grian need 2 or more days for medium building (for their size medium), they’re farming hours for recourses and build on the next day or two it’s insane from their 5s part in the video “I was farming 5 hours and now starts the Timelapse” 😂
00:43 world-edit is a mod for minecraft java, it can be a server side mod or a client side mod, Grian is also known to have used voxel-sniper which is similar.
World-edit has been around since before minecraft alpha. (aka classic?)
With these tools you can do sculpting (additive, subtractive, surface), copy paste, color themeing, and instancing (kind of like dropping a pin and saying program make a tree there).
You should check out Vechs known as the maker of the Super Hostile custom Minecraft maps and the CompleteTheMonument map category, who also uses mc-edit which is a 3rd party editor for minecraft maps.
You guys should react to grians POV of every season of the life series, it's actually insane, comedic, and story based and is one of, if not, the best smp in Minecraft, like, watch the whole thing across all five seasons
As great as he is at building... Grian is always up to some kinda shenanigans on the server. Two of my favorite examples include Mumbo for Mayor and leading the hermitage Civil War.
I love seeing people that don't know much about minecraft be amazed by builders or any other people that are really great at what they are doing in this game.
Calling torches candles hurt my soul
Literally, just pick one Hermit and watch their season! There's a crazy amount of interaction, and it all tells a cohesive story. I'd love for the gang to take on Bdubs or Etho next, but with what Doc has done this season, definitely check him out.
They are gonna have a field day watching Tango’s new Nether Hub 😂
They're gonna have even more of one watching Decked Out.
What you described is a program called World Painter. Grian is more known for World Edit, which allows you to manipulate large amounts of blocks while playing minecraft
You need more than a few stacks of blocks, you need entire chests full of blocks to make these builds
yall should start showing more season 6 too, grians season 6 base was dope. plus all the other stuff like the G team base, sahara and others. id also love to see you guys react to more of his smaller yet still equally amazing builds like the barge or the mycelium hq, hippy town, the G train and so on XD
Now we’re just waiting for the Team to react to Smallishbeans and the Empires SMP builds.
Grian sometimes builds it in creative frost on a back up world then put it in the server or he goes with the flow
I woke up today not knowing I needed a Netflix show about HermitCraft builders. Thanks to you guys I now NEED a Netflix show about HermitCraft builders. Which I will then proceed to bindge watch while eating a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich.
the comment of like is there a tv show for hermitcraft is such a mood, like people dont understand me when i say these guys literally are a tv show in themselves. watching all the different perspectives and the livestreams and everything is a massive tv show in itself. especially with their season set up!
11:55 when he said Hermitcraft season 2, even though he didn’t join the server back when it was season two also that was built in season 7 btw correction!
Grian made a series which was called evo that he played that was survival before he joined hermitcraft but it started as far back as you could go update wise and moved through updates so it did take him sometime to get used to the normal survival at the time. Also you all should look at what grain has made so far this season it's so good and his mega base looks fantastic so far! It's going to get even crazier as time goes on cause he has more planned but it's great
Most of them use a mod called LiteMatica - they build something in creative then download a schematic that superimposes over their survival world, so it's telling them what block to put where. Some people think it's cheating... but c'mon, they're building the thing twice! It's impressive no matter which way you look at it, and for builds on the scale that these guys work at... that type of mod would save them hours of work
The best part of this is that Grian and Martyn actually can’t see the final project in their head, so they don’t even have a full idea before they build!
Grian doesn't always commit to a mega build, but when he does it always gets insane
He is using a thing called lightmatica. It basically shows him where to place the blocks and how many of each block he is going to need. He did build it in creative and then made a “schematic” and is being shown where to place the blocks hence the layer by layer on multiple parts of the build.
Grian is my favorite Hermit! So glad you guys did a video on him, he is an insane builder! You could also do a video on his best pranks if you haven't already, I think that's also why I like him so much, he's like the server prankster. And I started out watching just Grian, Mumbo & Scar like you guys, but have since become big fans of ImpulseSV, BDoubleO and Cubfan, if you guys are looking for suggestions for your next videos. Keep it up guys, love the reaction vids!
So on the subject of watching other players do their thing, it's an entirely different SMP series but, on the last season of Third Life, several other players actually made it a point to spy on Mumbo (with the spyglasses) every time he did his intros. I highly recommend checking out the series because, for a PVP series, they did a lot of building.
If you want a way to keep up with all the hermits at once, there's always the channel Hermitcraft Recap. It's exactly what it sounds like and they release videos every week
"not played Minecraft in a long time" what??? he was on the Evo server at the same time when he joined???
You should show them when Grian blew this castle up.
Grian actually has like a building server to plan his builds before actually building it so he knows what he’s doing
Grian's build school was the best thing I've ever watched.
Tbh, in the history of Hermitcraft, there will never be a base quite as iconic as Grian's Mansion
10:00 "i need four stacks of stone bricks"
oh, i'd be shocked if he could make more than one and a half of the tower with four stacks. i wouldn't be suprised if i'm even overestimating how much can be built.
If you want to see Grian’s process of building a megabase he made a video about it with Pearl. It’s called how to build megabases in minecraft. There are two parts and Grian and Pearl build a megabase just for that video!!!
10/10 concept for this video! HMC is something that became a thing all because friends wanted to talk to each other during the pandemic and it's been larger than that and I love it for those reasons and more! :)
The method of design varies from builder to builder, and often changes over time or from one build to another for the same builder.
Before Hermitcraft S6 which he debuted he led a similar server called Evolution where they went back to classic and upgraded to a milestone version each time.
He left the SMP when S6 began so he did play survival before the season started.
I'm always amused when people say "This should be on TV!" or "This should be on Netflix!" as if big companies with tons of money could add anything meaningful. The best scenario is always "Well, they didn't make it worse...". Most times, they don't. So why not just enjoy it like it is?
no one tell these guys about litematica. let them keep the magic
I love how they were all absolutely jamming to the time lapse music in the neather build
Only when grian got on hermitcraft all of a sudden people know him. Good job grian you do you! Glad to see I've been subbed a long time before he even got to hermitcraft
I love these vids so much. Now I'm waiting on a FoolishGamers builds, Technoblade compliatons, Sapnap dominating MCC, Tommy Mod reactions. And those ones are just the ones off the top of my head
Fun fact: Grian actually used minecraft to model his IRL lawnwork. Converted real well, too!
It would be interesting to see them react to Minecraft Championship after reacting to Dream. To its top plays and top players. As well as how well organized and creative it is with all the schematics and originality!
i'm quite late to this omg but if you guys are enjoying hermitcraft i cant wait for you to react to all the finished season 10 bases, especially with one of the 2 newest hermits (smallishbeans) being such a phenomenal builder !! so far his base is literally stunning and we're only about 11-ish episodes in
We need a bdubs, just casually building a whole mountain in-between episodes 🤣
I cant stop watching Hermitcraft after first being introduced to it through these videos! Thanks TST
yeah, Grian indeed has a world or gets a backup of the server (which every member can get) so he can build in a private, singleplayer version of the server.
That giant mansion Grian built didn't have a back at the completion level in this video. It actually never had a 100% completed back and that was the running joke for season 7.
9:46
Trust me you wont have any luck with that, he's got 2 brain cells and already shares one with Mumbo...
