Thanks for the video. I recently purchased a SHU mount for a Shure Beta 91a. I was VERRRY concerned about the idea of drilling a hole in my Bass Drum for a connector. Then I found the May no drill vent connector. Whew !! Glad I found it BEFORE I tried anything stupid ! So in your video you put on the nylon washer then seated the connector right onto the existing vent hole grommet. Is this working well for you ? Have you thought you should have removed the grommet or is it just fine sitting on top ? Thanks for your video and feedback !
+IslandDigital - Thank you for the comment. The SHU mount is great as well, but It's good that you got the ACV Audio Connector from May. I used the SHU for years, and I used to feed my microphone cable through the front air hole on my kick drum, because I didn't want to drill any holes either! And yes, I didn't remove any of my vent hole grommets from my drums, because the Connector fit perfectly inside it. I've had it this way for the last six months of live playing and practice, and it seems to be working out just fine. I do have to periodically snug the black wing nut up on the inside of the drums when I change out my drum heads. As far as removing the grommets goes, some drums have very small vent holes in the grommet, and there are actually some drums out there without any vent holes at all. So, those are cases where you'd definitely either have to remove the grommets, and/or drill your own vent hole in order to install the AVC Connector.
+T. M. Drums thanks very much for your reply and info. This will help me out greatly. I've also seen a video where they have a double XLR connector , for 2 mics inside Thanks again.
Thanks for the video! Not a lot of content out there on the no-drill air vent connector. Do the three connectors at the end of the air vent wire fit directly onto the pins at the back of a mic? Or do they only fit that adaptor that comes with the May internal mic. I use a Kelly Shu right now and want to get the non-drill vent.
+Kyle Miller - Hi Kyle, The AVC connector appears to be able to fit the pins on a microphone, but contact Randall May International to be sure at 949-757-1717. The Kelly Shu is a great microphone mount, I used one in my kick drum for years until I got the May system. Good luck with your system!
+nickosrightfoot, thank you for the kind words. It's gone well so far. I hooked up the drum in the video and it worked like a charm, but I haven't had a chance to record the entire drum set yet. I'm going to post a follow up video very soon.
Where can I find that piece of foam? I'm going to be making some purchases soon with the May Miking system, and while I am primarily going to get the kick system, I may end up considering getting one or two of these for floor tom setups. I know that piece of foam does the exact same as what a pillow in a bass drum does (assuming said pillow does not touch the heads) and I understand its sonic purpose. Is it on Sweetwater or somewhere else?
+Michael Ozayu - Hi Michael, Randy May gave me the small pieces that I put into my two rack toms, so I had to cut my own custom pieces for my floor toms using foam that I got from Guitar Center which you can find pretty cheap. I imagine you can find foam at a lot of other locations such as Sweetwater etc., but that's where I got mine. Good luck with your system!

Great video Ted, I'm curious to hear the kit. How'd it go?
