We go to Guatemala every year. Never have we had a bad experience. You keep your head and you should be fine. The country is so beautiful as are the wonderful people. Lake Atitlán is magical! I've never heard of the school but I plan on researching it as an option to advance my Spanish knowledge. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and presenting el Español como experiencia!
I've twice been to San Pedro La Laguna. I'm a Canadian solo-male traveller. I love it there and it's very safe. I studied Spanish there also (different school). It's gorgeous there. San Pedro is pretty hilly, although not nearly as steep as Santa Cruz and then Panajachel is quite flat. I felt safer in the towns around Lake Atitlan than in my own city in Canada (in the evenings). Lots of great restaurants in San Pedro too...The Clover being my favorite (BEST spaghetti sauce I have EVER tasted).
Me gustaría visitar Lake Atitlán. He estado a Ciudad Guatemala, Esquipulas, Xela, Poptún, Río Dulce y El Estor. Soy un voluntario con dos grupos que trabajan en Guatemala. Y estoy aprendiendo un poco Q’eqchi’ usando un libro en español. Guatemala es seguro si usa tú cabeza.
I love this series! So happy to see different areas in Guatemala. I have traveled to Antigua, Jocotenango, y Parramos.
I am sorry if my grammar is off, but I do legitimately consider you to be my Spanish teacher. I love your channel and I'll definitely end up watching this one more than once as well!
What a concept, to have a school that offers 1on1 and feels like resort style activities. I wish Mexico had that, I would totally book a 6 month stay. I’m from California and would love to learn Spanish and emerge myself in the Mexican culture. Maybe one day soon I will do it. You are my fav teacher, because you are not afraid to be yourself. Thank u for showing what others are offering too, only someone with great confidence would show what others are doing. I like seeing you in that role of interviewing others as well as seeing you do what u love. 😔🇺🇸🇲🇽
Thank you for your kind message. I love teaching Spanish. What I love the most is to know somebody is learning Spanish. I visited 7 schools in Guatemala because I truly believe these schools are good and affordable. And I know people learn in different ways so I wanted to show a different angle for learning. I also think when people see a place they are less afraid of visiting it, and experience it. I like to show what other people do if I believe is good. These schools do a good job. I will be publishing the videos in the upcoming months. Saludos y abrazos de oso.
I did study Spanish in San Pedro (different school)! It was such a wonderful experience. My home stay family were absolutely wonderful ❤ The reason I finally had a breakthrough with my Spanish was because of Guatemala! The locals speak a really slow, clear and simple Spanish (they also have their own native language). The lake is just beautiful too. It's just such a wonderful peaceful environment. I would definitely recommend anyone to study in Guatemala!
One summer I went to study Spanish there in a school overlooking the beautiful lake. It was the most awesome summer, beautiful scenery, friendly people everywhere but I didn’t learn any conversational Spanish only a book full of vocabulary. lol. I still recommend the experience. 😂. Today I in a Spanish country and still can’t speak a complete sentence. 😂
I am set for 10 days at the San Pedro Spanish School in October! We visited Atitlan last in 2018 and have wanted to return. What an amazing place. Now that I'm serious about learning Spanish, it seems like the perfect option. Thank you Ana for your feature videos on Guatemala. So excited!! How will I wait until October??
@@ButterflySpanish Hola, me alegre mucho que ha leido nuestra historia. Es un pais con historia muy larga e interesante.. Nuestra ubication estaba muy importante para muchas países desde hace mucho tiempo

Thanks for this information, which country will be better for spanish school between mexico n quatemala?(most important point will be cost haha, teacher's skill...)
Querida Ana, Estas enseñando español ahora en la escuela de largo Atitlan? Si lo haces, me gustaría dar una clase contigo durante unas semanas. Gracias
This is a very helpful and informative video for anyone who is considering Spanish classes abroad. I hope this type of video looking at different Spanish schools becomes a regular feature of your channel. 👋👋👋 About 25+ years ago, every year for 2-3 weeks, I would attend a Spanish school - Spain (Malaga); Mexico (La Playa del Carmen); Ecuador (Quito and Cuenca); Peru (Lima); Argentina (Buenos Aires); Costa Rica (San Jose). As a solo traveler, this experience gave me the courage to re-visit these and other countries (Colombia, Chile) as a wandering tourist for extended visits. After watching this video, I regret NOT taking Spanish classes in Guatemala. Remember, it’s the individual Spanish teacher that makes the difference; not the country, the school or its facilities. My favorite school was in Malaga, Spain because the school rotated different teachers throughout the day so the students heard a different accent, a different speech cadence, different teaching method, etc. As a student, you don’t get comfortable learning from only one teacher so you’re always being challenged. It was like high school and college. Ecuador and Peru were also favorite countries for Spanish classes (and solo traveling) because the spoken Spanish was so easy to understand.
I like the fact that you are presenting your viewers with options to learn Spanish from different teachers and in a Spanish speaking environment while at the same time having the ability to immerse yourself in the local culture. I would enjoy learning Spanish preceded by a Kayak sunrise over a volcano!

How much does it cost to learn spanish over there
How much is the fee including boarding and lodging. I am a poor backpacker. I can makeup by volunteering.
What is the cost for schooling?

It's a great way to learn but at 5 thousand dollars a month it's expensive
Check out the pricing on their web site. It isn’t anywhere near that expensive.
