    So cool. Im going this route, albeit wooden boxes. Nice to see an encouraging view of the setup.

      Yes in my mind their a good compromise between a tiny Apidés type, or a full nuc! You do have more flexibility in the spring!

    It's amazing how fast they can build come spring. I've super'ed some of mine and they build like crazy now. We don't have Mini-plus nucs here, so you either use Mann Lakes that are half of a medium frame or you come up with your own design.

    Well spotted just shows how easy it is to lose your Queen and everything looks very impressive good job, Richard.

    Beautiful. You answered my question in a comment below about why you use the small nuc instead of full frame nucs.
    Like you said it depends on your situation. I could do the real small mini nucs and install queens into full frame nucs only because of the lack of room where I am. It's difficult getting places to put bees where I live.
    Is your inseminated queen your breeder?

    Hi Richard
    Another great video
    Are the mini plus expensive
    What brand are they ?
    They look great

    Pricing these out shipping to the states expensive .. I can get the lyson mini about the same price but alot less shipping .. Supers for the lyson mini seem about the same .. You ever tried the lyson mini ?

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  4 роки тому +1

      No, but I think they may take the same sized frames! You have to use what you have!!

      Was watching your vids on them .. Under the lid you have hollowed out foam around the feeder ? I can buy the super with frames for 20.00 .. If i buy the feeder and bottom board its 44.00 . nice setup . was thinking if i put devider board and queen excluder between double stack i could mate 4 queens

      I have bunch of those mann lk double mini .. They work good but ants chew into the feeder raccoons chew the lids off . dont hold up very well in the weather .. I hate to invest anymore money in them ...lyson is a solid box probably last decades

      @@hootervillehoneybees8664 we make our own bases and own roofs we use on overwintering nucs but we don’t have those pesky raccoons!
      No ants either! It’s difficult to find the right combination. If it works for you then good! For us here their pretty good and universal.

      I have bees in couple lyson mini right now in Michigan .. They seem to be doing well so fare .. Just in a single box .. I put fondant in the feeder .. I have pretty strong demand for whole med frames of comb honey . they want it right on the wood frame so they know its real honey .. But i charge 30.00 to 50.00 dollars each kinda expensive might try making comb honey in these half frames get the price down ... Package it frame and all .. Do you know anyone making frame feeders size or those half frames ?

    I like those little boxes I wonder how they would do over winter in a truly cold climate.

    You are going to start feeding next January, will you be feeding sugar syrup or fondant, I worry about feeding syrup to early because of the problems it can cause with condensation, what are your views on this, I live in North Essex. Regards Clive 🐝🐝

    Richard in the USA it has become a big hobby for people to have a hive or two. Is that the case for France? Is it easy to sell your nucs there

  • @HaUsSssss

    What's the benefit of mini nucs? Less resources per split? I'm used to just splitting using 5 frame nucs then transferring into deeps so they're a bit foreign to me.

    • @beeman1246
      @beeman1246 4 роки тому

      To start MiniP. you just need one cup off bees. From that next year you will have five nucs.

    I notice you are using tires for hive stands. Do you have any suggestions for doing that?
    Do they collect stagnant water or do mice nest in them.
    You video's are always so informative. I always look for them.

    I need the spelling for the French term for a queen being honey bound so I can practice saying it. Then I'll be able to class up my bee yards using it when I get behind next summer 😆

    Your mating program is doing very well...full size frames would have served you much better....easy to transfer to a nuc box. No scrambling to add boxes for room.

    • @richardnoel3141
      @richardnoel3141  5 років тому +1

      Kevin McMahon dont disagree with what your saying but we havé limited forage in the summer so if we can get a colony going on a smaller amount of bees, we can have more colonies in the same area.

    • @KevinsNorthernExposure
      @KevinsNorthernExposure 5 років тому +1

      @@richardnoel3141 I was more referring to two - frame mating nucs which take less resources...and easily transferrable to larger nuc boxes if it runs out of room without having to stack up mating nuc boxes. ....then of course you can start a new queen in the recently vacated mating nuc box.

    • @beebob1279
      @beebob1279 4 роки тому +2

      @@KevinsNorthernExposure I think so too. I'm a hobby beekeeper but have raised my own queens. I was given a breeders mini nuc years ago and found that using nucs is just so much easier, and I'm not wasting time making extra equipment.

    • @KevinsNorthernExposure
      @KevinsNorthernExposure 4 роки тому +1

      @@beebob1279 I made 20 mini mating nucs this year..... Although I love my 2 full frame mating nucs, the mini's are easy to transport should I want to have my queens bred in another beekeepers apiary for their drones.

    • @beebob1279
      @beebob1279 4 роки тому +1

      @@KevinsNorthernExposure I see your point about ease of transporting. Now are you talking about the type of mating boxes that Richard is using? Or are you talking about those little styrofoam nucs from mannlake that are only about six inches long?
