- Опубліковано 24 бер 2021
- This landscape painting is completed with the Golden Heavy Body Acrylics introductory set I showed you in Part 1. See how the paint handles and decide for yourself - do Golden acrylics outperform regular student acrylics. I was happy with the result. The color mixed well and remained true throughout the painting. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Your style of painting looks great with Golden.
Thank you very much!
Those paints really do hold their shape very well. The colours are so rich and earthy hues of the desert like scene look amazing Malcolm. What a wonderful painting. The colours you can develop from an arid vista are fantastic.
Wonderful, thank you for watching.
These demonstrations are of great pleasure and interest for me. Excellent teaching . Thank you for speaking so clear and understandable.
Thank you Eva, that is lovely to hear.
Beautiful painting Malcolm! I'm sure the quality of the Golden Acrylics contributed to the success of the painting in some way, but for me it clearly demonstrates that the materials used are but one part of the equation--the skill and the vision of the artist play a much larger role. I have no doubt that if you used student grade acrylics for this demo, the result would have been equally as stunning.
That is very kind of you Michelle. Thank you.
Your style of painting is very nice
It’s beautiful!
Malcolm, I'm watching your videos for the second, third time. I've got some time and will try it myself. Your advices are so valuable! Thank you very much.
Thank you very much
Beautiful! Using red for the warm part of the road was unexpected for me but it goes so well with the painting.. amazing 👍☺️
Thank you
Beautiful..I hadn't enjoyed my attempts at acrylic painting and had given it up.. But this seemed so nice.... Will definitely try again.. Thanks
Excellent, thank you
I love the way you interpret the photo
Another great painting
Thank you so much 😀
This is very informative. Golden might be the answer to achieve the texture from oil ( that I cannot use due to health reasons) . Thank you for this video!
Beautiful work, wow! This is what I want to do too.
Go for it!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I love this contemporary style of painting!
Thank you very much!
I’m so glad I came upon your channel! I love your style, plus, you’re a good instructor. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
What a beautiful painting! Thank you for these wonderful videos. 💕
Pleasure, thank you for watching.
Thank you Michael. That was a great refresher for me as well as instructional use of paint with palette knife/brush combo.
You make it look easy but you have such a talent for creating such beauty.
Thank you, that's a great compliment.
❤️🧡💛
absolutely beautiful, love the colors and the red underpainting.🌄
Thank you Lynn!
@@MalcolmDewey you're welcome sir
Beautiful. Loved the vibrancy and the warmth of the final painting. Thanks Malcom
Many thanks
I just bought some of these paints to try. I enjoyed your video and subscribed.
Thanks for subbing! Those are excellent paints too.
So pleased to have found your channel 🙏🎨🙏
Thanks so much 😊
Love it.....
Amazing what you can do with color. Love it
Thanks a lot Gary 👍
Super teaching and another beautiful painting.
Thank you!
Brillant, loved watching this, learned some new things. I'm going to change paint that is for sure, what I'm currently using doesn't have any coverage, quite thin.
Glad this helped you!
They mix so beautifully and it seemed like you were using
Oil paint, the heavy acrylic seems to have that same buttery body as oils do
Yes, I did enjoy them and they dry quite slowly too.
Beautiful as usual.
Thank you Terrie 💯
Awesome 😎 Love your style
Thanks 😁
Great painting‼︎ So beautiful‼︎
Thank you 😊
정말 개성있게 잘 그리시네요
멋진 화가세요 훌륭합니다🎈💖😍
감사합니다
I would love for you to demo the golden open acrylics and compare them to these as you paint Thanks for all your posts
Sound like a plan 👍
Yes!! I’ve heard they allow for a longer drying time like oils. But curious to see a demonstration
I wish any one of the few artists that I watch often on youtube (you're one of them) would talk about framing. Framing canvas, paper, etc. how do you decide what frame, how to you get them framed. Frames are outrageously expensive in the United States. , canvas without frames can look unfinished, and shipping framed work is costly to ship. Do clients purchase unframed paintings from you and if so are they buying knowing they will have the extra cost of getting a piece framed. If you've talked about this subject will you point me to that video or create one? Thanks in advance.
Framing is a big issue. As a result I purchased a framing machine or two secondhand. Best investment! Type in " framing" in the search bar on my channel home page. There are several framing videos. Even how to frame watercolors like oils. I offer framed or unframed, with a discount, options to collectors. For International sales unframed is the best option as the saving on courier fees will pay for a local framer.
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks for your reply! You are the first artist that has replied to this question and I appreciate it so much.
Have u tried Golden Open acrylics? They have a the slippery consistency as oil paint ! With a similar wet working time!
Yes, they are very good. Similar indeed.
@@MalcolmDewey i love their OPEN gel Medium. Feels like using hair conditioner on ur paint brush hahahahahah 🧴
Amazing I ve got a long way to get close to you good thing I have a membership to learn from you
Thank you 😊
That is a beautiful vibrant painting! Im amazed the paints stayed wet for that long! I have golden and they dry in less than a few minutes. I can only put out 1 or 2 colours at a time. I Really like your dark violet... May I ask what shades of red and blue you used to make that ? (and did you also add a little of any other colour to make it?) Thankyou!
The colors come from the Intro Set of Golden heavy body paints. It is Napthol red light and ultramarine blue. Not sure about any other colors involved though.
@@MalcolmDewey brill... thankyou!
Normally I speed up your videos because even as a native Texan, where we are known for slow drawls, I find your speaking rate a bit slow. BUT because there are so many lessons packed into this short video that I switched back to normal speed and will watch it again and again. Thank you.
So I can out-drawl a Texan? Cool!
Nice! Loved it! What brand of brushes did you use for this demonstration?
Daler Rowney Cryla brushes
Now that you have tested the Golden Heavy, how about a test of Golden Open paints, particularly outdoors. How does it compare to oils for plain air painting? Thanks, Malcom.
Yes, I will work on that 👍
Great painting as always, very curious about golden acrylics, especially the open ones with slower drying time. unfortunately i cant find them here in portugal. Maybe someday i will order some when i have more things to invest so the shiping fees dont hurt so much =) great review!
Thank you. They are not easy to find here too. This is my first experience with them.
I love your style. Have watched many of your videos. What size flat do you use the most please?
Thank you! Size 8 flat. That's about a half inch.
Thank you, Malcolm! I started with acrylics but switched to oils for en Plein Aire. How quickly do these dry? Or what would you recommend to retard the drying time? I do love the saturated color of Golden Paint.
This dried quickly so you need to paint fast outside. Honestly I do not like mediums so I would stick to oil for outdoor work. There is also Golden Open acrylics that apparently dry slower, but I have not used them.
@@MalcolmDewey thank you!
I have been struggling with maintaining crisp brushstrokes in this impressionistic style as I tend to feel the compulsion to blend! How to break that habit?
Use a much bigger brush. Go for big shapes first. The blending will stop once you focus on big shapes. Takes time.
How would you compare acrylics to oils? I am an acrylic artist wanting to start oil painting. Thx. Love your videos and art.
Oil first for sure. If you want to paint fine art then you must try oils. Then decide what you love the most.
Can i use the original heavy body GOLDEN ACYLIC paint inside of my AQUARIUM on my 3D printed decorations.. and use it as a protective sealer as well.
No, I do not think art materials can be exposed to water like this.
Great job! Btw, do these paints darken when they dry?
Can't say I noticed. I always varnish acrylics to get that "oils" look so that helps.
@@MalcolmDewey Thanks!
thanks for your generous sharing! Was your red underpainting dry before starting top layers? I look forward to your reply to "Kat Fox Art" (below) thanks again
Yes it was.
