We are back with another walleye fishing video!
Today we are ice fishing on a small lake in northern Wisconsin. In this video we target both Walleyes and crappies on first ice! We target basin crappies using the acme hyper rattle 1 inch. After cooking up a few crappies we head out for walleyes. We set up for an evening walleye bite in shallow water and find success.

20:30 a local lake that I often fish first ice on, this is exactly the circumstance, the walleyes are a little sluggish(even early ice) and they barely pull more than a couple feet of line. When you walk up to them they’ll run some more but it depends. The last fish I caught pulled barely two feet of line 🤷

Hopefully this mega live is better than the last model. I have used that one and it’s far less superior to Garmin Live scope. It wasn’t really even a comparison.

I use a custom made rod by Daniel straub for panfish! Amazing rods and reels.
It'll be interesting to see what you think of the megalive 2 on forward-facing sonar in the boat compared to the mega live 1... Because that one sucked.... Probably why I went to Garmin.

Hey Tom i got a question for you. On a few of the walleye you caught i notice that they are bleeding from the gills. How likely are those fish going to survive when you release them?

Question: is that water dark or is it a clear water spring fed lake? Northern MN has a lot of lakes that are dark or brown water.. mostly from the swamps(I think). Idk where this is but the walleyes are dark in color which makes me curious 🤷
Why don’t you run a garmin for livescope? Even there gen 2 just looks closer to livescope

agree, HB isn't even close to garmin ...still . I've fished with all 3 brands and HB has by far the worse menu and very poor range and has a delay. LR has the worse delay and very poor bottom return.

@TomBoley agreed. Just can't say, "no harm to the fish" is all. Small hooks and tip ups, it's what you get. Nice work, but I'd probably just keep em when that happens.

As do I! I don’t get to fish as much so, the FFS is just an unmatched tool. It maximizes time on the ice. Great video.

@@adamhomb6012 Heck yeah! I would use all of this equipment if I had it, too. But even watching how Tom is using the 'fancy' stuff helped my friend and I, relative novices at walleye fishing, figure out how to best use the 'cheap' little hummingbird sonar on our rental boat last summer.
