Ive been playing and reading about guitar and theory for 45 years, in the short couple of vids I watched from you , I have to say you are one of the brightest teachers out there. You are able to communicate your ideas clearly and articulately. It sounds as if you learned things the hard way and made many mistakes in your early study of the guitar and now able to show why that was, and now you get it, really get it. JUst my observation. Thanks for vids
Wow man, you made my day with your comment. Thank you, I needed that!
A refreshing take. Just thought it be easier if the slice he's playing was highlighted on the diagram.
Don’t understand why some people are confused : it’s clear for me ! We have different brains, it seems some tools don’t match with a few… Very good vid, thank u,David🇫🇷👍🏼🍒
I like this skill that David has of taking things that appear extremely complex, and decomposing it into simple elements that we can absorb. Thanks for the cool lesson.
total taste and tone!!! Bravo
Keep up the good work David!
These lessons are absolute gold Dave! Really made me think about how I approach my own playing!
Cool video as always David!!!
Love that guitar I want one so bad thanks David for sharing your knowledge
Really great thank you
Beautiful video.
Dave ur by far the best teacher out there.
Ive signed up for your lessons cant wait
David I'll have to trust you on this one! With all the theory & scale patterns I'm trying to learn from your other courses, this is one I am, at the moment, lost! I hope that babbling for a month or two can't hurt...my head is aching with all the pattern memorizing 😟😉. 👍🏾👍🏻🙏🏾 for your Fusion Course.
That's just fun! It's satisfying, beautiful and you can play with gratification without the neurosis of incessant Yngwie 32nd notes, Some are throwing their guitar in the river because Guthrie makes them feel inadequate. Ridiculosis mitosis! Get your Wallimann on!
Great content, this is similar to how I visualize the fretboard in my mind!
Thank you!
Great lesson David. Is this backing track available for download?
I haven't still tried implementing anything you are talking about but i have a feeling it'll be a turning point in my playing...thank you for the inspiration Dave
Get to it Bro !
A very good lesson this is. I would like to know what the backing track chords are please ?
Hello David awesome explanation as always, ive been learning from you since 3 years ago more or less thanks for that by the way, but i have a question u said A dorian right? What i dont understand is... u still in A dorian in the chord change? Cheers from Mexico!
Thanks for the nice words! Great question. There are 2 keys, we start in A Dorian, but then switch to Bb Aeolian!
I've rarely been more lost watching a video. But I assume someone got that. In principle it made sense, follow the changes, but the diagrams did nothing but make my head spin. I was left thinking that the scales Do matter since it seemed obvious you were using them.
I agree, Noah.
Yes, the problem here is he is not really being "honest". You DO need to know the scales, here A Dorian and Bb Aeolian, in order to actually come into the ball park of what he is doing. Otherwise, you'll be hunting and pecking to figure out how to play something that sounds almost right...and just when you do...the key changes and you have to start over again.
Let's make it simple. Play A Pentatonic minor. Then when it modulates up a half step, play Bb Pentatonic minor. Now you can begin to make sense of it. After you are more comfortable, gaining a little understanding of the Dorian and Aeolian modes will give the the other notes.
Sorry Noah, my bad on this one. Thanks for watching anyways!
Disagree. He is diagramming connecting the changes together, while focusing on the musicality. Most of us get stuck in the mechanics of it all. You’ve got to risk and explore. It should help break out of the boxes we all get stuck in and fall into a rut. Playing in a zone of the fretboard is a huge step forward. Visualizing this is super important. YMMV
@@jamesellisor8932 That's why we always need to study any scale or mode on the 12 keys and in 5 regions of the fretboard using the circle of 4ths . When you get that, you can modulate very smoothly. Start with the minor pentatonic. Play the scale in 12 keys at the same region of the fretboard. After that, go the the next region. It will also help eliminating any "black hole 🕳️" you may have on the fretboard.
Wasn't making a whole lot of sense to me, until I mapped it out differently in Neck Diagrams (showing the actual intervals), using a typical chord progression: A Dorian to D Mixolydian (D starting on 5th fret, 5th string). And removing all the extraneous notes beyond the 2 chords/scales. I also mapped out D Mixolydian starting at the 10th fret to show the relationship to Bb Aeolian (Starting on the 8th fret).
That's the first thing that popped in my mind . If we're only using one region , get rid of all the adjacent clutter and of course knowing what intervals your playing will make a huge difference.
show us what pick up you are using while play
There's a pretty interesting parallel in how second languages are taught. Many people can't speak but know all about grammar!
Lets have a minute of awe for his phrasing and note choice. It is absolutely brilliant. I don't think it can be taught or, at best in a few videos but either way, you are the most melodically skilled improviser I have ever heard.
Ps. Can you do a video explaining how to solo over chord changes using a single scale but by adding the chord tones to it. Or explain why that is not as efficient as the scale modulation thing, you address in this and other similar videos.
Hi
Can this technique apply to any chords changes ?
Yeah!
Lol. I just commented on the last video i watched of yours, another video, that you missed the like and subsdribe cue. And you need em. Then i saw this one. I probably just missed the other one.
This would be awesome if I wasn't a lefty.
U are good but that guitar is whole lotta out of this world ❤️
the guitar is only a tool, look at what he has in his head
❤
Sort of how my teacher from way back when ,when I use to take lessons ( before I sorta gave up) ,would teach me to learn a song… he’d say listen and find the 6th string note that fit the song(chord) / which usually would be the bar chord for that chord being played in the song …it was a bit more involved but for the blues / blues based rock I was trying to learn it was a way to find progressions fairly quickly , once you learned the technique that is….
Yeah getting lost here….seems u had the keys and scales worked out before hand ,so am assuming this part of the process.?.? Yeah I’m lost lol
dude I’m trying to go to sleep stop introducing a topic then directing me another video lolol
LOL
David, you're a fantastic player but this confuses me beyond belief. I have no idea what zone you are playing in at any given time. I really want the info you're trying to share but trying to follow the diagrams make no sense to me.
you wont have that diagram on a real improvisation
What the he'll are you on about m8
I’m not quite sure myself!
Them diagrams your not making anything easy
too confusing, not easy

Yeah, this one is not as clear as I would have liked. Sorry!
