WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

“Is this someone with a biology degree?”
“No, this is Patrick”
This comment is gold 😂
If that lying clown has a biology degree I'll eat my hat. "Fossils only tell us the creature is dead" my ass...
For anyone that does not remember, the second caller, Cory, called in years ago and did the exact same thing. He’s the guy who when Matt asked which god, he said it doesn’t matter. When Matt said it does matter, he said “who’s asking the questions, me or you?” Then refused to allow Matt to answer anything because he thought he had the gotcha moment. Matt eventually hung up on him. He was a little punk back then and he’s a little punk now.
Oh, shit. I remember that clown.
Haha yup. Recognized that voice immediately! Then he had the exact same conversation as last time. You could tell he was trying to be slightly more respectful, but when it started going the same way as last time, the asshole came out more and more.
In his earlier days he was a christian punk rocker in a punk band called=F#&$K The Sinners !!!....
@@johnd.shultz7423 I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Thanks for that lol
Here's one for you, Patrick from Ohio is Eric from Mesa Arizona. Look up the old clips, that's his voice
It’s 2019, and we still have to hear people defend slavery.
Thanks religion.
I'm in an online conversation right now with someone who's defending the Old Testament genocides, and he's even calling them genocides.
"But...but they were wicked and had to be punished..."
troy sigurd cool story. Now time for your medicine, you insane anti-Semitic piece of crap. There's a good lad.

So Rao's argument that took him 3 months to come up with got destroyed by Matt in 3 seconds
I designed it to be unwinnable. If Matt had conceded, my argument would've fallen apart. This was a spar. My only intent was to gauge his striking distance and see if there were any flaws he didn't notice.
RAO Laster 3 months though!?
@@r.a.o.laster5984 I wonder if arguing an argument in your own head is a downfall? I think arguments need objective criticism in order to be validated.
The best test of an argument is to present it to others. Whether Rao's argument fell apart in 3 seconds or 3 years is immaterial, if he knows where and how it failed he can progress in how he considers the situation, regardless of whether he decides to change his approach or his overall position. Discussion should be about understanding someone, not "beating" them.
it was barely an argument, more like a pointless incorrect assertion
My fave moment in this episode was when Matt spoke about how much it breaks his heart when seeing people defending god's massacres and advocacy for slavery.
Hey! Spoiler alert! (lol)
One of the best shows in a while.
I love hearing Matt go off on slavery apologetics.
I so agree
It is the stab in the heart for African American ignoramuses!
He does it a lot admittedly, and for obvious well explained reasons...but I think this was one his best eviscerations of biblical morality in relation to slavery and the broader effects that type of thinking has.
But.. But you all know that biblical slavery was not the same........
Pete From Detroit -How did you determine that "black people are the biggest defenders of slavery?"
"I've got irrefutable evidence for God". Time to go and make a coffee and wait for the next caller.
Immediately refers to a passage in the bible. SMH
LOLOL
Shit, that's the time I'll be most attentive if only to hear Matt tear that shit down
@DrJames Powers "are impossible to come from a mud puddle"- logically and grammatically incoherent
@Never-ending party so where did god come from?
Matt was on fire - especially on slavery. I loved this.
@DrJames Powers lmao you are pathetic
@DrJames Powers "SLAVERY WASN’T IMMORAL"
Holy fuck, fuck you asshole. You need to be someone slave for a few years I think, you might change your tune a bit.
@DrJames Powers It's clear how much you care about emotion, really comes across in your use of caps :P
Slavery was immoral *and* it was an accepted legal custom of the time. Owning people *is* detrimental to their well-being because it restricts their actions and generally deprives them of security. In this Biblical example, it was legal to beat your slave as long as they didn't die from it. You couldn't do that to free people. That lack of legal protection is inherently detrimental to their well-being. They were also deprived of the fruits of their labors, and even their children.
Most of us give up some measure of freedom to earn money for bills, but we have many protected rights and own property. There is a vast gulf between a "wage slave", and an actual slave who owns nothing and may be assaulted with impunity to the verge of death.
We are animals, but we are not merely animals. We could argue about the mistreatment of certain animals, but I'm sure we agree that mistreating humans is different than mistreating lobster.
We didn't steal the racist, intolerant, shellfish-averse morality of the Old Testament. People worldwide know that murder, theft, and slavery are immoral. Some people are forced to kill or to steal, but some try to justify slavery for nothing more than greed.
@J w Well Theists don't understand their position either I guess
@DrJames Powers "SLAVERY WASN’T IMMORAL it was an accepted legal moral custom of the time. "
This makes you a *moral relativist* ;) So much for absolute objective morality, eh? ;)
Whereas I have an objective moral standard in which I *can* say the slavery was immoral then just as it is today.
So much for your claim I'm "stealing morality from the Bible".
Matt and Eric are great together. This is a classic episode 😂👍🏻👍🏻
Patrick claims he has a degree in biology.. then claims evolution is a lie.. American education system has failed..
@@godsservant8969 I'm also praying for you.. may bramha give you wisdom
Or he was straight up lying. Who knows.
@@godsservant8969 Why did you lie about your degrees?
@@godsservant8969 : I'm praying for you that you'll see the light of Gandalf in the light of Harry Potter, because of reasons therefore reasons, right?
Odds are good that he’s attending a Christian university, so “Biology” is likely the name of the class that teaches the Bible. “Civics” probably teaches the Bible, too. And “History”, “Calculus”, etc., too.
I have a BSc in Environmental Biology, and I can't see how Patrick managed to get a biology degree without gaining an actual solid understanding of evolution and how well supported it is.
The simple answer: he was lying or he was trolling in the guise of a theist caller.
There's a college somewhere that needs to revoke a degree.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Patrick may not have been entirely honest about his qualifications . . .
Yeah. I'm not entirely sure Patrick was being at all candid regarding his qualifications and education.
In fact he sounded utterly clueless.
I suppose he could have a meaningless piece of paper from Liberty University or some such unaccredited purchased online certificate mill. In the same way Kent Hovind did. Some dishonest fucks tout these around as if they are actually worth something. As if they have done the requisite work and dedication
It is actually repellently dishonest and disingenuous. Not quite as repugnant as stolen valour. But it's along similar lines.

I'm announcing now, The Stickie Dmin University of Theologyology and Bibleness.
I offer a degree in theology. The final exam is just one question: "Would you be Matt's slave?"
Answer correctly and you get to tell everyone that you have an honest, for reals, degree in theology from my university.
(I feel dirty now.)
There was recommendation from UA-cam to watch AXP video. Thank you UA-cam ! This is now my favorite channel.
Make sure you manage your watching time man because it's very entertaining and addictive watching theists get sledgehammered by logic and reason over and over again :)
I fucking love it! Brainless fools getting slaughtered week in week out.
@@techtipsuk I agree but the bigger point is: if these believers actually knew their religion and bible then they should be able to defend their beliefs. Everytime they fail to provide evidence it just shows how bad the arguements for any god actually are and how many people believe for no good reason

One of the best moments of Matt ever - the call with Ryan in Florida. As an excerpt, it should make the top ten Matt smackdowns ever. Matt truly cares about humanism and morality, and it's evident.
God equivalent of Stockholm syndrome
Every fucker who promotes the Bible as this perfect, moral book should watch this video
Saying that you care and actually doing are two different things, it’s funny to me people criticizing the potential all good god when they themselves do nothing to stop or prevent what they think god is doing wrong, it’s a thought paradox
I love simple yes or no questions. That brief pause before the mental gymnastics is golden.
Best episode in a LONG while. Matt really brought tears to my eyes. Fearless! Thank you
I agree. Great stuff guys!
Matt is great, the newbie, meh.
"Fossils tell you that they're dead"
So by that logic, police who come to a homicide scene can only tell that the person is dead, and literally nothing else. Not what weapon was likely used, not time of death, not whether the victim fought back, nothing.
Or what the victim's diet consisted of, or how his/her bones are pretty, but not totally, similar to that of a human found 115.00 years ago and how that is consistent with other findings of each period.
But we can tell all that.
If the police found a skeleton a hundred feet under the ground, would they think that person died today?
@@joecoolioness6399 depends. obviously.
That quote "originated" with Kent Hovind. I remember it very well from his Creation series videos that were on TV long before he put them on DVD in 2007. Even when exposed to him as an early teen, I could just "smell the snake oil" coming off of him.
He worked for more than 3 months on his argument, and Matt swiped it away in a few seconds... brilliant !
It was a matter of a couple of minutes. Give me some credit. Besides, I don't think anyone heard the conclusion.
RAO should have worked on Logic 101 and critical thinking in those 3 months instead.
"Dear diary, today Matt was more patient than me" ERIC YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME I CANT STOP LAUGHING 😂
When I was a kid I went to a friend’s church. They spoke in tongues, rolled on the floor and raised their hands in the air and yelled every time the word ‘Jesus’ was mentioned. I was absolutely terrified. I had already watched the movie ‘Bedlam’ and I thought I was in an insane asylum. Later, I began to feel sorry for all the people who were indoctrinated in insane religions. I thought how destructive Christianity is. Even later, when I was in my 30s I had a dear friend who slashed her wrists because of her religion. Teaching religion is child abuse and it destroys people’s minds for life and leads to countless suicides.
59:32 "It has made you a slave to the religion" Matt is the man.

Caller 1: "I spent 3 months developing this argument"
(Destroyed by Matt in 2 seconds)
That's usually how it works with arguments. It got a lot better though. Great philosophers spent lifetimes on arguments that the average college student these days can debunk in less than a minute. But forming an argument still takes a lot longer than ripping it apart.
Well, the Bible took centuries to be written and can also be debunked in 2 seconds.
If Patrick is getting a degree in biology he should probably stay awake in class.
Matt brings the best out of Eric. Love this duo.
And Eric jumps in at the exact right moments to slow the momentum and tease a bit out of the caller. "You do recognize that you are trying to justify slavery, right?"

Don’t forget the “calm down calm down” every time this Ryan buffoon realised that Matt was absolutely ruining him. It’s level par with idiots who ask “why are you so angry” when it’s simply an inability for them to produce a competent reply.
I think planning for bad situations like tornadoes is a better strategy than praying when it happens.
1. How will you know a tornado is coming?
2. What will you need, survival bag? (Water, Food, Hygiene, ect.)
3. Where will you seek shelter?
OR
1. Prayer
Build a strong house.
What does "prayer" mean?
@@-whackd Prayer is an invocation or act that seeks to activate a rapport with an object of worship through deliberate communication.
@@-whackd Prayer is politically correct Schizophrenia.
@@zacharyshort384 Prayer is an abomination of meditation/introspection. The only difference is that with prayer you don't attribute any answers to yourself but to a fantastical being. It encourages a warped version of 'humility' where you are told not to rely on yourself because you're incompetent in solving problems. When you do solve problems, you're discouraged to acknowledge you did that yourself and encouraged to pretend that the fantastical being guided you and that there was no other way you could have solved the problem because you're incompetent.
In any situation outside religion that would be considered gas lighting and abusive with the purpose of controlling the victim to make them feel dependent and weak without the dependence. Religion is a helluva drug.
Best bit of directing I've ever seen on the Atheists Experience. 1:19:11 Great camera work!
Matt's back :) Excellent show.
Wow! What an arse Cory is...
And the mental gymnastics Ryan has to perform to defend slavery in the Bible is incredible!
Truly sad, actually
Cory really couldn't get his head around the fact that they were simply trying to be intellectually honest and avoid straw-maning his position.
I think the truth was that he probably didn't belong to any specific denomination other than a general Christianity.
Cory is a long-time caller, as he's called in before to try to argue with the hosts. He's failed each time, usually because he uses the "be a fucking douchebag" approach to arguing with the hosts.
This was a GREAT episode!!
55:03 What Matt says here hits so hard and really puts things into perspective how much further along we'd be if we can put religion behind us.
When I read Genesis what I saw more of was a bad idea of gay gang rape in Genesis 19:5 where God destroyed a city. Before being Christian I considered the "feeling" worldview. Negatives that stood out to me personally? Eating babies 2 Kings 6:29, eating dung and drinking urine in Isaiah 36:12 and a woman killing a guy with a hammer and nail in Judges 4:21. I did find the building of an ark more interesting than slaves and when I read the bible it seemed to me as though there was far less of those type of things after Jesus came, died and rose. I found the Bible more of a "bias" revealer and it showed where someone saw bad and how they saw it from reading it. Has Matt gone over these parts of the bible that I mentioned here in other shows? I think after Jesus came, died and rose far less of those stories of the poor behavior of people made it into the new testament. What do you think?
@@stevenmusielski5224 The New Testament is arguably more immoral since it introduces the punishment of eternal hellfire.
@@zacharyshort384, that matters if your believe in hell. I was a non-believer so I am taking it from a non-believer perspective. You do not need to be a Christian to understand 1-What is gay gang rape 2- What is eating a baby 3- What is being killed with a nail and a hammer. So are you convinced of a real hell or is it like you threatening to send me to some "evil place" in Alice in Wonderland? When I read Genesis 19;5 I said" what this is gay gang rape" What? It has never happened to me and I think I might have said "thank god" at that point as a phrase. It takes time to get through the Old Testament. First of all, the 'speach' around the hour into the show actually made my cry because it is so sad that you are 100% correct and it is 100% horrific that it is so.
In general I love the show but I would like to be able to hear more arguments from the callers, Matt is very quick to interfere cause he usually knows the arguments coming, I don't cause I don't have the experience so sometimes I never get the full context.
Thanks for the great show tho 😁
Chili Ghost I agree. I wish Matt would allow them to talk more and then rebut and hang themselves. Keep calm, have wry smile on your face and watch them sink in their own stupidity. I think it would help more wavering Christians see the truth.

Most theists don’t, especially here on YT.
NO theists know what evidence is.
@Viktor Tandofsky
Well done for so widely missing the point.
And kinda making Alan's point for him! :)
The more ridiculously stubborn and indoctrinated the callers are, the better the show. Matt's rant in this episode is classic.
@DrJames Powers No you haven't you went running with your tail between your legs once you were found out to be a troll/poe and nothing more
Also he mutes them or interrupts them so he can get a word in instead of letting them talk endlessly and waste time and hangs up when they see that the caller won't listen and is just wasting the show's allotted time and preventing them from getting to people willing to actually listen
Besides this isn't his channel go to his channel, call in, or send an email to him of you want to debate
@DrJames Powers-- I have built and can present a case that proves God does not and cannot possibly exist.
Would you like me to prove this claim?
@DrJames Powers I'm not lying that would be you
Also the other ones do it too as they can't let one caller take up the entire time for the show talking endlessly or just wasting time it's called being courteous to the other callers and not wanting the show to get stale from just one caller a show besides people can call in again every show
I like how you didn't respond to the other parts of my reply by the way
Also you don't know what the definition of Atheist is so that means nothing and "education" would imply you've given more than meaningless words and meaningless insults it would mean that you've actually given evidence and proof of your claims which you haven't
@DrJames Powers So apparently you don't know what Atheism is nor what a religion is then
Atheists are one thing and one thing only an Atheist are those that lack belief or have a strong disbelief any deity or deities
Atheists don't claim that something came from nothing nor have they ever claimed that
So you're not going to present any proof and evidence of your claims? No then I'm gone because you're nothing but a troll/poe that gives nothing but meaningless words and insults, makes fallacious claims, and dodges when anyone asks you to prove your claims the supernatural and some deity no one seen face to face by asking questions yourself
@DrJames Powers some next level trolling here. Good job.
During the evolution discussion i could hear AronRa yelling "Evolution is an indisputable fact! It has been observed in the field and the lab"!
This episode has that 2011 feel 😂
No no no you're done! *click*
Does the drunken gibberish that I was speaking last night, while trying to explain the use of bit rate and bit depth in digital music to somebody, count as speaking in tongues? The reason I ask is because I did know exactly what I was talking about, I understood the subject completely, not one sucking person with me could understand what I was trying to say. Am I now saved in the Lord Jesus Christ?
You need to dunk your head in a bowl of marinara, in the Flying Spaghetti Monster's name, with evidence of you speaking in noodle. Then he will envelope you in his noodly appendages and cover you in his tomato sauce of love. 🍝
@@godsservant8969 So, your supposed 'evidence' that a 'god' thing exists, is words in a book. WOW! I'm convinced!! lol Get a grip, Patrick. You don't have evidence of any 'god' nor do you have the degree you claimed. You are a liar fer Cheeses.
Dude, you are seriously a turd sandwich. I create IDM on ableton with push 2, so yea I know what you’re talking about. But the fact that you so desperately needed to mention that because… I don’t know… you thought it was a “flex”.. is incredibly transparent and pathetic. I could mention a ton of things (played at forest, own a business, wrote 3 books, purple belt in Jiujitsu, blah blah blah) but NO ONE GIVES A SH1T. Start focusing on contentment and not how people view you dude. Yuck
@@matthewclark1006 huh?
@@matthewclark1006 let me know what books you wrote I'll fucking do a book report on them and let you know how good they are. No one is flexing here except for you.
Love these streams, they are totally reinvigorating my atheism.
Rao was the name for god on Krypton. Back in the day, Superman would exclaim 'great, merciful Rao'
...although I believe that the Kryptonian deity's pronunciation rhymed with 'pow'
A Light in the Dark I think maybe Kal-El uses ‘Merciful Rao’ like humans would say ‘God bless you/bless you’ after a sneeze. The guy’s fought beings with immense power, I think Kal-El would see the Abrahamic God as a step down from say, Darkseid or the New Gods.
@A Light in the Dark Ja Rel, Yahweh... Jesus had a more obscure transition in translation. In the Gospel of Smallville, Ja Rel was a bit of a douche, fitting in with the depiction of Yahweh in the bible.
I get so happy when I see a new upload :) I really owe a lot of my dealing with existentialism to you guys. Thanks to all of you who make this happen.
When I heard "...well there's Joseph's tomb..." I litterally paused the video to brace for impact.... X'D oh dear these guys just don't know where they enter.
Eric has me cracking up. “Oh, you brought this on yourself.” 😂😂😂
Does Ryan know that slave is a synonym for servant. Quibbling over what word to use is idiocy. Because servant sounds nicer doesn't mean it doesn't refer to a slave.
This show has been as good as last week's. Matt has such a nice effect on Eric. Good to see.
2 Weeks without Saad? IT'S A MIRACLE! 🤣
i am Saad 😢, Saad where are you?
Yes, this episode was definitely one for the record books.
