  • On a cold and clear night, busboy and former wedding photographer Chad Blakley crossed a frozen lake in the very north of Swedish Lapland - coincidentally, making that night the start of Abisko as one of the best places on earth for northern lights.
Music: Petri Tuominen & Kim Lantto, Wonder by Tristan Barton, Soul Changing by Maya Isac, Rikka by Rew.
This is a production for Swedish Lapland TV

I visited Abisko in 2014. It is a beautiful & magical place. Looking at the Aurora Borealis is an amazing life experience.

I'm planning my trip to Sweden in February, and a friend who lived there said Abisko is the best place to see the Aurora. So I started looking for more information, and I found this amazing video. Thanks! Just made me even more excited to go there.

Visited in September 2022. It was fall so the trees were a beautiful mix of yellow red and orange. Stayed for 3 nights. First night was too cloudy to see anything but the second night we got lucky and saw a beautiful display. Make sure to give yourself a few nights just in case weather conditions make it impossible to see the lights on a given night.

Wow, such a beautiful place to behold. I will be there on September 26, 2022 and leave the place on September 27, 2022 for Stockholm. I hope that with my only one night of stay in Abisko Park, I will be able to see the Aurora Borealis. It is only a side trip before I attend a summit in Stockholm. With my short stay and a limited budget, I hope I can try riding as well the reindeer through a sleigh. Who knows, a generous Swedish person can treat me for this once-in-a-lifetime activity, ha ha ha. God permits.

I just came from Abisko (Ostra), a very small town where just 70-80 people live. Serene and tranquil with scintilating beauty. Although it was overcast and rainy, so couldnt see the aurora, but the autumn colors were the best, orange and yellow shades everywhere. Magical place!

Ι have been in Abisko, back in 2016. Did not see the aurora borealis but the place was really amazing. All this nature and calmness, brings you back to nature - nice short documentary

Bart Hoogteyling I had an amazing time in Abisko. Rode a snowmobile deep into the Abisko National Park chasing the aurora in -5 degrees cold. After 3 hours no aurora in sight. A little disappointed but hold and behold aurora came out to play as I was reaching the small town where I stayed. Mission accomplished. It will be forever in my mind. Will be back definitely!

Bart Hoogteyling like right now if I could but that’s just a wishful thinking because of Covid as I can’t travel out of my country yet. Can’t afford a private jet !

Thanks! For the nice video, cool and beautiful and heartwarming feelings. Though I'm not sure if I can get answer here, is there high possibility of seeing the aurora if I travel there now, like next week? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately you are right. Like Yosemite valley in the summer it's the influx of tourists that make it not worth visiting.

I visited from south Sweden this fall, and though you're by no means alone at the station, the feeling out on the mountain is still serene and not very exploited. One of the more prominent reminders of civilization is the heavy iron ore traffic on the railroad with its path from Kiruna to Narvik hugging the lake - although this predates the sky station by far.
