- Introducing the Ham Space MA-01 Portable Coil Antenna - This versatile antenna can be used on four different bands by changing small threaded coils - 40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m - allowing you to make contacts with ease.
The MA-01 features a single matching coil and a sensing coil for each wave band, making it easy to switch between frequencies. With this compact and portable design, you can take your antenna with you on the go and set it up in minutes.
The MA-01 is perfect for both experienced and novice ham radio operators, provided it's understood this compact antenna is a compromise and will not give peak performance as other, more efficient antennas will.
$62.00, it's a great value for the performance it delivers, minus the semi flimsy feeling telscopic antena.

This video is showing my use case, opinions and overall feeling for this antenna.
Pros of using any small portable coil antenna for ham radio include:
Portability: A small portable coil antenna can be easily transported and set up, making it convenient for mobile or temporary operations.
Low profile: A small portable coil antenna can be less conspicuous than a larger antenna, which can be an advantage in certain situations, such as in urban areas or for stealth operations.
Easy to deploy: A small portable coil antenna can be quickly deployed and taken down, making it convenient for emergency or field operations.
Cons of using a small portable coil antenna for ham radio include:
Limited range: A small portable coil antenna typically has a shorter range than a larger antenna, which can be a disadvantage for long-distance communications.
Lower efficiency: A small portable coil antenna may be less efficient than a larger antenna, which can result in weaker signals.
Limited bandwidth: A small portable coil antenna may be limited to a specific band or frequency range, which can be a disadvantage if you want to operate on multiple bands.

Why doesn't this guy have more subs?
No idea.
Thanks Dude for sharing. I enjoy watching a practical demonstration of a not so well known antenna. Amazing what we can use to get on the air and have a QSO.
Glad it was helpful! It's a compromise but I do think that there are reasons to carry it, or have it around. I heard of someone not being able to place spikes in the ground, setup tripods, or hang wires from trees at their state park, which I find silly . However, a small coil like this may be the only option.
I like all the different colors
I don't like these kind of antenna's but now my Radio space has been even more confined. So I may give it a try. Thanks a lot.
Something's better than nothing I suppose. If you can find a way for an efhw or mfj telescopic vertical, I may consider those as they will be more effective. With that said, I definitely understand the troubles with being confined with space and in my case HOA Karen's
@@HAMRADIODUDE Ha, well if I can't get on HF for a while, I will just keep reading QST , UA-cam Ham videos and 2 meters for now. Thanks for the topic.
I've found that my G-90 works really well with these kinds of antennas. From my QTH in Georgia, I've reached Nova Scotia and Los Angeles with my G-90 and a Comet antenna. With my chameleon QRP antenna, I reached a SOTA activation in Idaho.
Hey Ham Dude I really enjoy your videos , I like the simplicity of that portable coil antenna,I think that is my next purchase ,Thanks Ke0aou Dave 73
Nice review. Great explanation on this antenna.
Thank you!
Good job!
I learned about this antenna about a year ago form BG8BXM's video (he invented this antenna) on Bilibili. As you can see, it might not suitable for a fixed radio station, but absolutely for portable station or something like emergency backup.I think I can try this out sometime.
DE BA7MQN 73!
I just ordered one after watching your video. $18.38 Canadian.
Nice little antenna. I don't do POTA but this could serve as an emergency antenna when an earthquake or other disaster disables a primary antenna.
Thanks for the objective video! On 10m, the efficiency of this antenna is best, and if this band is open, the skip attenuation is minimal.
Thanks! I definitely gave it a shot. A fairly impressive antenna for the compromise and price. I'd like to compare it to the toy box for fun
Bought this antenna. Rigged it to a old metal frame hammock brace in sloping config. And worked 4 parks. They are set for ssb freq but got 1.8 on 14060s but at lower 14040 over 2 oh oH ! Need more length. Alligator clip at end of telascopic- now down to 1.4.
Ohh, 4 , 12ft ground plains. Now got a kit that fits in s fanny pack.
I love hearing these success stories!
Great review. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Been watching a number of videos on the Aliexpress antennas. People tend to be pretty happy with them, especially at the prices.
I already ordered an EFHW kit and now I'm probably going to buy 2 more cheap portable options. Lol
I do like the really convenient size of that antenna.
Thanks for the video, and 73!
My pleasure. Maybe for someone who is in a park where they can't hang anything from the tree or spike anything in the ground.
@@HAMRADIODUDE So, tried to buy this and I've decided that AliExpress can pound sand. Kept declining every payment method I tried.
For the best. I honestly didn't need this anyway.
@@lyledal message me your Callsign, I'll donate mine to you after another few tests. Notice I didn't say giveaway? I can't do giveaways anymore because of a crabby hammy.
Brilliant video. Looking for more. 73
Terrific Job thanks 73
Thank You !
Interesting little antenna, takes up no space too. Could be a good emergency Back up if everything went sideways on an activation. Good video Dude! Cool DX contact too, fun stuff
I'm impressed. It won't be a daily user, but absolutely for maybe a stop on the bicycle trail. Pull out quick and try to activate
I use a mfj telescopic whip sticking out of my balcony. I talk to Japan all the time.
QSO med Sverige ved 50W‽ Fantastisk! And having a tiny box antenna like that’d be fun anyway. One more doodad to stuff in the POTA go-bag. Thanks for the rview & show! 73 de W8IJN
Nice review. 73
If u used a centre loaded antenna it would be better but for that small antenna ya cant complain but as its too short just add 10m wire on a aligator clip so ya can clip it onto the top of the telescopic whip so if its too long just slide the antenna down a tiny bit
Fun fact for you: SM7UZB is located on the Swedish east coast, in what used to be my navy "mobilization area".
Know the area well? :)
@@HAMRADIODUDE not really. Haven't been there in 30 years.
Like they say... "Any antenna is better than no antenna"
A compromise, but very rapid deployment.
Get a piece of thin Yellow Fluorescent Paracord,
make a Guide for whip Lengths with some marks on it when you find optimal lengths
=============\
COIL |============ WHIP ==========================< UP/DN>========

==================Paracord=======**===========**===================**=====**
** Marks on Paracord
Find/get a short M6 Bolt, chop the end off
Then screw 2 Coils together.
Then get an antenna analyser and experiment.
You might find a combination of coils/whip length that gives other bands
Screw them all together... who knows 😀😀😀
Just getting into radio. Any suggestions for a entry level operation? Good UA-cam channels? So much bs on this subject. Thanks Cliff
Does my 5watts Baofeng UV5r matter for this antenna?
I wonder what would happen if you got an M6 coupler and placed the ten meter coil and the forty meter then the whip. Would you be completely out of band, or would your forty meter bandwidth improve?

It's raining today, but I am going to to go to the store, find a m6 male to male bolt, and get to work experimenting. Thanks for the suggestion! I would be willing to bet some combination of the coils will get me 80 and maybe 30.. I'll report back.
@@HAMRADIODUDE Looking forward to your update. Keep up the good work.
Any tips for a beginner wanting to start off
I absolutely will have advice for you. However, what are your interest in radio? Are you looking to make long distance contacts or have something like short distant contacts for prepping situations? I'll see what I can come up with for you, but regardless once I get a gauge for you, I hope you have fun with the hobby and continue to push yourself to learn things.
You think I could run this on my smaller radio and use it handheld, or do you think it requires radials?
I'd say you definitely want radials. However you can give it a shot.
Brother which antenna do you recommend me for gmrs i need one for my roof for my portable radio and one for my vehicle i live in the middle of the woods!
What kind of radio are you going to be using with the antenna? Will you need a cable run suggested as well?
Thanks
Does anyone know where online I can find Laws in regards to regulations on Ham Radio Antennas?
Absolutely. So there's a couple of things about laws and pertaining to ham radio, mainly their local ordinances municipality codes and the very from town to town. So your first best bet would be to get a copy of your local municipality code and search for antennas. Typically there will be a height restriction if you're putting up a tower, which is usually outlined in those municipality codes. Furthermore, if you have a HOA the HOA bylaws will specify any kind of restrictions against amateur radio antennas or other antennas. If you're in accordance with the municipality codes, they should be in accordance with state and federal law. Typically that's why you'll see a municipality specify in the code what the height restriction is. Is there something else in particular that you are wondering about?
www.fcc.gov/media/policy/antenna-tower-lighting-and-marking-requirements got lighting towers if needed
www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-95/subpart-A/section-95.317 antenna height from the faa
@@HAMRADIODUDE I'm in Question of Height & Placement Restrictions. Is there a Max Height, or Placement from Property line Restriction.
@@Ricks2Cents I believe that would be outlined in the city or county zoning code and would most likely vary from town to town/, county to county. There will typically be a section labeled "towers and antennas" then breaks down the code between commercial antennas vs non commercial. The zoning should also specify the requirements for both commercial and non commercial. Good luck!
So with some short M6 threaded rods we could couple the coils??
Interestingly enough, another person mentioned this in the comments and I'm going to go test it today
@@HAMRADIODUDE given everything changes everything I wonder if the order you stack them matters…
I'd say not too bad for that price
I'd say it's good to have something spare laying around. I'd probably go with an EFHW again, but some people cannot throw wires in trees for multiple reasons. At the end of the day, 10m with the coil....Sweden... :O .. Yeah not too bad. Half the price of the toybox.
Bicycle portible
Yes! If the frame is good enough for a ground plane, even on 10, I'll try it!
Where can I buy that antenna with the color coils
shorturl.at/aLQ58 On aliexpress, you can click on the model you would like. 73
Nice video. However I am almost, no in fact 100% certain, it was purely band conditions!
Thanks for the test Dude. This antenna....well.....No. Looks to be more of a toy. With the SFI numbers up, it will work to some extent. Lower part of the cycle and you are wasting your breath. There are so many antennas that will perform better. I guess if this type of antenna is something you want to play with, well, it's your money. I like making contacts. I'll pass, but thanks for showing the ham world what this antenna will do. Like listening to a Joe Biden speech, using this antenna for a half hour would be 30 minutes of your life you would never get back.
nice job 73 kb2uew
Thank you! I have a few more AliExpress goodies to test
Very professional evaluation, video editing is also great, thank you,de BG8BXM
Hey great job with designing the product!
