    I consider myself to be so fortunate to have spent my 20's in dance clubs on LI and NYC, starting in the 1973. WHAT A TIME!! To this day, my IPOD 1970's dance play list is the longest at over to five hours, and i still add songs. It's songs like this one, the Village People, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Trammps, Harold Melvin, Archie Bell, et al, listening on W B L S, the Worlds Best Looking Sound - Frankie Crocker (RIP), Ken Webb, JD Holliday (RIP), Vaughan Harper (RIP), Lemarr Renee, et al. Oh, how i wish i could spend another weekend dancing, dancing and dancing.

    Listening to the lyrics as an adult to some of these old song is a little heart wrenching. As a kid you just love the beat and you don't understand the lyrics, but then you live a little, get some experience and really these songs are quite painful but in a sweet way.

    My gosh, this is a beautiful track. Reading the lyrics, it sounds so melancholy as a tale of longing and lost love, but in the vocals of Jean, with those sublime Philly backing musicians, it takes on a new life. This fusion of soaring music, soulful vocals and yet, haunting lyrics, has brought a fullness to my heart and stirs something deep inside. Thank you for sharing this lovely lovely tune 🙏❤️

    One of the great songs of the 20th Century. The beginning of the end of disco: fulfillment of the sexual revolution, and the desire for more.

    • @RichardKoenigsberg

      Kind of ambiguous what I said there. Did I mean desire for more sex? Or desire for MORE THAN sex.

      Well since it has been said that disco was (supposedly) a road to nowhere, I'd say this songs yearning for more, in meaningfulness. Am I close?

    • @RichardKoenigsberg
      @RichardKoenigsberg 9 років тому +4

      I don't think that disco was a road to nowhere. On the contrary, it was a tremendously powerful and liberating form of music--along with the sexual revolution that went with it.
      However, like everything else in human existence, at a certain point disco had "shot it's wad" (so to speak), done it's job. So at this particular moment in time, Jean Carne is asking for more--that is, can the momentary thing turn into something that is more than momentary.
      Still, the music itself suggests that there was JOY even though it was a momentary thing...the pleasure of it--can that pleasure last, turn into something more...does the pleasure have to end?
