  • In today's video of Building A Pig Roaster From Scrap Here On Our Off Grid Homestead, Heather and I straighten up the frame work that goes on the top of the bbq pig roaster, we also straighten up the lid as well. Once this is all done we install the hinges we picked up, then I show you the handle I am going to be using.

Do a side handle Cecil. Maybe one that is on a pivot with some stop and hold positions.

Have shop space rented out on a gentleman's agreement. Will be cutting back on work to do a lot of welding. Finally get to do welding projects like you.

And a counterweight with a stop and lock down, also drop the opening handle lower down 12 inches from the lid on a little bit of an angle to keep your hand lower than the billowing heat. Very good job so far, l e d lights would be a nice one .

I really like your idea of putting a handle on the end, you can make it longer to get a lot of leverage if someone who is trying to open it isn't very strong. You can also put an adjustable stop on the same end so the top can be held partially open for loading the wood at the beginning and leaving the lid partially open when you are first lighting the fire in case it is windy. Suckling pig is great roasted, makes a great table presentation also.

Perfect height. I have built and used a few of these and can tell you if you are bending over all the time, your back is gonna be killing you. Also, the temp for roasting pigs, depending who is cooking, is usually between 200° F and 300° F so getting burnt shouldn't be an issue. Good series, thanks for taking the time to upload it.

Sorry guys mist your live show. The handles on the front at the end of the lids. The temp gauge needs to go on the lid close to the bottom off the lid . So it is closer to the true heat of what you are cooking at the top you at not getting to true temp .

It's looking good, I can smell the pig cooking already lol I'd probably put the handles on the sides due to the heat because I feel your going to get alot of heat rise out of their, either way I guessing to pig will taste great lol God bless besafe

That should do the job nicely, may want to put in some sort of lift brace when the lid is open so a strong gust of wind can't blow it shut. Also might want some sort of lid secure latch so it doesn't bounce and make all sorts of noise in transit unless it going to be pretty much in one place all the time.

    good build there
why not put hinged handle one each side with a long bar connected to each side so then it can drop down until you lift the lid that way you can have it much wider so you wont get any heat on your self
a bit like old style baby pram (uk) cart maybe in your neck of the woods

Hey Cecil, great BBQ project. I was wondering once you have a good amount of heat in the belly of her, the tires might melt, so maybe a little heat shield by the wheel 👍😉

If you want to cook a whole pig they have to be small and it still take 8 to 12 hours to cook. A bigger pig to speed up the cooking we will 1/4 or it could take over 24 hours to cook and you hope it will not burn.

Are you going to put counter weight for lid so it is easy to open an shut smooth

    • @pappabob29
      @pappabob29 5 років тому +1

That sounds like a great idea. I envision a removable bar that attaches on each end (once your in place and ready to cook) so the weight sticks out in the back. When the lid is opened, the weights would be against the lower back of the tub to hold the lid open and stop its travel. 👍👍👍

If you find it to hot to open the lid could you mack a lifting pole.

You spend hours and hours filming, then hours editing and hours charging everything up. Then you have to tie up your internet for hours uploading. Not to mention the expensive cameras, editing software, laptops, sd cards, microphones, and others stuff I missed. All for free to you, they only get a little help from some subscribers and a pittance from youtube, but 15 seconds of ads is too much for you, you're being ridiculous.

@Lauren - I personally value their content enough to watch a few ads. I do not expect them to do all that work and provide entertainment and information to me for free. I am happy to do my tiny bit of supporting them by watching the ads. If I could I would do a lot more, being direct support but am unable.
