      I was also going to comment on his excellent sportsmanship. Really, really admirable. As they both said, good memory is ultimately just a skill. Good character is something more than that.

      Sure, if you want to construct an elaborate min palace every time you want to remember a phone number. If that's what it takes to "have an exceptional memory," I think I'd rather just write things down.

    Mind is truly an exeptional organ. I myself has a poor memory and getting poorer. :-( This somehow inspire me to pratice not for any competition (although I had that in mind) but more for myself. Like yesterday, I just forgot to take 2000 pesos when I withdrew on an ATM. I was not in myself. My goodness. I was so stressed and disappoited and humilliated about myself and of course to my mom cuz its her's. I better practice what I've learned.

    The tricks that memory champions rely on are a bit disappointing. They "have an amazing memory" in the same way that crossfitters "can do 30 pullups." I think a true memory champion would be able to recall things effortlessly, without having to rely on bizarre strategies of constructing elaborate mind palaces every time they want to remember a phone number.

    • @scottk1525

      @TheUltimateGamer You expecting me to disagree?

    • @rocklee1488
      @rocklee1488 4 дні тому

      I don’t think we understand memory fully yet, but what we do know is we can remember things through associations, and that is likely what happens when you recall something by default. You think, what did I have for breakfast? Then you remember waking up, going downstairs, opening the fridge, *and then* grabbing eggs. The memory palace is just a focused way to establish something that may not instinctively seem important, and makes it important. I don’t see why you can’t apply this to practical topics like mathematical concepts or physics - it simply adds another layer of reference, perhaps an algorithm, similar to how music is an algorithm for remembering notes and pitches and harmonies.
