Lol you know it's a painful ride when even the animation is rough. It's intensity, size, and short life span makes it a thing of legends. Really don't think there will ever be anything quite like it again.
I never got the chance to ride this one but you can tell just how ambitious of a project it was. I really like how much kings island pays homage to its old rides with things like the SOB memorial at banshee or renaming flight deck after the bat, there's a lot of love in this park's history it's pretty cool to see
Maybe we could see a ground-up custom RMC coaster themed to the ghost of son of beast as a way of it “returning” in the future. Could use the old station and the theme would fit perfectly with the spooky themes of the bat and banshee nearby. It would be a MASSIVE hit!
Maybe they could use that idea to even give action zone a retheme to a spookier atmosphere? It would seem fitting since 2 of the main attractions focus on the spookiness feel
@@bigblueamusementproductions I agree it wouldn’t be related layout wise at all but we could see something related in the name or theme related to SOB. It was a rough sack of ass. I rode it with the loop and without the loop, some how it got even worse without the loop. My ribs slammed into the train my last ride on it. If you enjoyed it that's awesome, but it was definitely not a good ride.
I remember riding it 19 times in one day when my Mom and I took one of my best friends out of school and the park was TOTALLY dead. We were 15. Oh to go back to the days of being able to ride CRAZY stuff like this!!!
This was my first "Big Boy" ride at King's Island, this and vortex. Got a souvenir tee of it I wore for years, well after the ride's closure, until it was far too tathered from use. My mom was never thrilled with the implication of her child wearing a shirt that said "Son of Beast"
The Son Of Beast Was great but Banshee is even greater, because she is not only Vortex's long lost girlfriend and now a widower but also she is the queen of the Kings Island Ride Warriors' coasters!
4:48 I still remember seeing this. Right out the station, there's the massive loop! SoB was a hell of a ride. Would not be upset if they did the exact track RMC style! It would be sick. 🍻😁🍻
There sort of is, a wooden coaster in Germany that currently holds the record for tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world. It's Collossus, if my memory serves correct.
I miss this ride. I know a number of people were injured, due to this coaster, but mine were only the little ones that subsided, shortly after the ride. If this can ever be remade, but with improvements so it's not as harsh or damaging to its own structure (even if it all has to be metal), I would gladly welcome it.
I flew from the UK just to ride SOB in July 2000. It was amazing, loved the Loop. Hope one day GCI can make a wooden coaster with a Loop & we can all thank KI for creating SOB.
I loved this ride it was my 2nd favorite ride/roller coaster behind the beast until they took out the loop then it was just ok. But I rode it 100s of times me and a friend of mine set the record for most rides in a day with 27 rides and 14 of them were in a row that we didnt have to get out of out seats there was nobody there that day. This ride and this park will always have a special place in my heart!
People often say Son of Beast was the roughest wooden coaster, but I could (and did) ride it over and over again. Mean Streak was worse, and was the only coaster I ever swore to never ride again.
It really WAS an architectural masterpiece. I enjoyed that ride, and was so sad to see it demolished. Who else would think of a wooden coaster with a loop?? Too bad it wasn't able to be modified to still be here as Kings Island has an AWESOME collection of roller coasters.
Even if RMC did get to it, it would've been ground-up because of the myriads of structural defects caused by poor overall design. RCCA cut every corner imaginable when building SOB, and as a result, the tallest, fastest, and only looping wooden coaster was reduced to a pile of rubble far too early in its service life. Even if it were properly built, the ride would've been a maintenance nightmare because it pushed limits that wooden coasters usually don't (even today), and there are reasons for that. I still think the biggest issue is that SOB was just way too far ahead of its time.
One on only 3 coasters where I thought the probability we wouldn’t make it back to the station was pretty high (others being the Beast night ride and the Legend at Holiday world). But I loved every minute of it.
@@triple7marc I never said anything about pacing. I was talking about how each coaster gave a wild and out of control ride giving me the impression that it could fly off the track at anytime. When watching the Legend traverse the track you can seem the structure actually moving as the train moves over it. This was my very first coaster, rode it way back 2007 with my old man. Still have the on-ride photo and the sound of that chain lift permanently etched into my memory. As for the ride itself? I'm in the rare camp that actually enjoyed it.
King’s Island is an interesting park. Its failures tend to be just as popular and legendary just as its successes. I always felt like they had a score to settle with the SOB since they maintained the station. But they did the same thing with the Bat and gave us Vortex. Stay tuned.
From what I can remember about it, which isn't much, since I only rode it twice, once with the inversion and once without, it was steel vengeance-level epic, and it was definitely rougher the second time... but it wasn't magnum rough.
SOB was consistently my favorite Coaster until they removed the loop, which really took away from the overall experience. My friend and I did a marathon of 7 consecutive rides on SOB on a slow day once. After ride 7 we both felt pretty rough to say the least lol. Sure wish this didn't get demolished though. :(

Interesting how they forgot to mention why they demolished it but ok. Doesn’t take away from the fact that the Banshee Reveal was one final slap in the face to it.
