- Andy Fogarty tells us the difference between Cast Iron and Ductile Iron.
Have you ever wondered what's the difference between cast iron and ductile iron? They look similar, feel similar, so why should I go with one over the other? Watch and find out! - Навчання та стиль
I work in a foundry making ductile iron pipe. The main difference in cast and ductile is the addition of magnesium. Ductile iron has magnesium added to it once its molten. Cast iron does bl ot contain magnesium.
"(Cast Iron is) mostly made of Carbon and Silicone" (1:12). That statement amazes me.
Ductile Iron is a graphite (Carbon) rich version of cast iron (Wikipedia). So, ductile iron has more carbon in it than cast iron. In both cases, iron (Fe) is the predominant component.
And all it takes is one comment like this to be back on the search for differences between the two metals. This is why you get your information from multiple sources and compare them.
Hope you made it to 2019 with the newborns?? Yes, so as an ex-foundry worker to make ductile iron over high carbon cast iron you would just use more silicon in the cupola mix? Plus we could make iron more malleable by annealing it in an oven and softening it too.
Got a question I’m building A handrail for a church that goes up onto a platform and continues I’m using 1 3/4 handrail cap from king metals
My question is when the cap transitions onto the podium can i notch the underside and bend it or do I need to cut it and weld it on the transition point ? Just getting into handrail building and trying to keep waste to a minimum
Hope I asked it in a way you understand thanks for a response
Great video, I was just looking for dropping and breaking cast iron, Will a man hole cover break that easily? Is it easy to differenciate with the eye cast iron and forged iron? Thank you.
What do you think about special ductile iron?? is it different with austempered ductile iron?
Make more videos. Very educational. Gave a like
Jeebus. Cast iron gets a film of rust, yes, but that's where it stops. That film protects it from further rusting. THAT IS WHY WE CAN USED CAST IRON FOR MANHOLE COVERS AND STORM DRAINS. Which can withstand the weight of cars and trucks. Brittle does NOT equal weak, it means the thing will break before it will bend.
Cast iron is mostly made from pig iron, not really the “iron” yall are thinking of.. also cast iron has more carbon in it than ductile version.
Good video. Thanks.
I really like u the way u demonstrate something
Watching at 2:30am because my baby won't sleep
Malleable iron vs ductile iron?
And yes racetrac has the BEST coffee
True dat about RaceTrac, though. RaceTrac and Pilot/Flying J, best coffee for me.
video starts at 0:44
Do NOT require the coffee!!
didn't have much to say about ductile did you? Title is kind of F up.
“Cast IRON is mostly made of carbon and silicone”
You can’t be that stupid... you just can’t.
not really interested in your coffee drinking habits. stick to the science.
Cast iron will crack immediately if welded cold OR with traditional filler metals. I hope this guy removes this video one day.
