How did it happen that the 70's produced the best music ever written and sung. The music was authentically sung by real voices, unaltered, unpolished, just pure vocals. Musical beauty was in full bloom.
It's a little message that The Lord has to remind me of time and again: "I beg your pardon: I never promised you a Rose Garden! Along with the sunshine, there's gotta be a little rain sometimes"-so true, no cap!!
The 1970s was the Decade of the best music that could exist, as it was a time when we composers did not make music to make money, but from the heart! I was there writing some lyrics and melodies that are still very good to this day, modesty aside!
I have severe depression and anxiety but this song has become somewhat of a comfort for me, and I'll find myself singing it often to remind myself that it's natural to feel bad about life sometimes and that the current moment will pass. Lovely song!!
This song was one of my mother-in- law's favourites, and my mother's and it's also one of mine. Just goes to show you that women who are realistic are much more able to enjoy relationships, ladies, life is short, so get real.
This song reminds me of my nanny and grandad. My nan use to say to him and who promised you a rose garden. I love it so much and brings me so much joy and comfort listening to it ❤
A lot of people don't realize Lynns version was a cover of a previously recorded song. Billy Joe Royal recorded it in 1967. Joe South wrote it and eventually sang it on an album also. Lynn Anderson covered it and it became a mega hit. Adding the strings to the song gave it a totally different sound. The prior versions were made with guitar arrangements.
Happy 50th anniversary to this great hit of Lynn Anderson’s!(it was released right around this time in 1970, it’s November 2020 as I make this comment.) And may Lynn A RIP; she had a terrific voice!
A beautiful song about what it means to be realistic and wanting to give someone your all meaning the ups and downs. It's bitter sweet. I knew this song from the great Joe south cober which is also good, a recommended cover.
lynn anderson was told that this song probably wouldnt suceed with a female voice. She managed to flip that around hard - I now struggle to imagine the song doing well with even a talented male voice now
I wss a kiddie too. There was also a book and movie referencing the title in the late 70's. I never saw the movie or read the book. But they were about a teen with mental illness.
This is Carole Z--- this song I danced to with my dad yrs ago....when I hear it I can feel that memory as if was happening right now....our minds are so sharp...
Still water runs deeps. It took me years to grasp the meaning of that. You really have to look beyond the surface of people. Hell even a dog wagging it's tail does not mean it's friendly, it might want to bite you.
I may be wrong on this, but when the song was a hit in the early 70s it was the most successful crossover of a country song to the pop charts by a female singer until 1997 when Tammy Wynette eclipsed it with "Stand By Your Man". BTW, it's "so melancholy" not "some melancholy".
Thanks for taking an interest in Lynn Anderson by uploading her song at the correct speed , but you can't be a true fan of Lynn A, since you adulterated this song by recording it at Mickey Mouse speed etc , uploaded on your channel a month ago. There's no law against the strangulation of a song on youtube, but you should be ashamed and know that true fans of Lynn Anderson will object and not share any of what your warped mind dreamt up. Jealous much?
Thinking of cherished memories when my Mother let me decide on my own, without her assistance, which 1 record album I would like to check out from our hometown public library. Fields of Roses growing on stalks of Clover in loving memory of you, forever I have. I Love you Donna June
I think that God should make this his official theme song. Just read the lyrics. So many Christians I have met expect their God concept to protect them from all harm just because they believe the Nicene or Apostle's Creed! But God never promised anyone a rose garden. Belief in a God does not shield you from the lessons of being a human being on Earth, or you wouldn't be here!
You are so right on with your comments! It's nice to see that there are others who see the Divinity hiding in this and many other love songs! When I hear the lyrics to "Rose Garden" I think of God in the aspect of the Protective, Unconditional aspect of The Divine Mother...always and forever watching over us as Her children...but there are times when She must allow us to feel pain without immediately rescuing us so that we learn to behave...and when we realize She is always there with an open heart wanting us to return to Her loving arms she is ready to take us on Her lap of Omnipresent Love and comfort us as only a Mother can do.🙏⚘🤗

As the 50’s were an ending or a pulling back of a variety of musical styles, the 70’s was an explosion of musical styles.

Awesome song from the 1970's still telling the truth. Happiness isn't guaranteed no matter who you are or what you have. Any one can fall.

Recorded in 1968. In 1997 Hillary was "standing by her man". Right you are....Love shouldn't be so melancholy, but it often is.
@@Isolvedit Hillary had condemned the song as chauvinistic and degrading to women. Tammy Wynette demanded and got an apology.
Lynn Anderson popularised Country music, Europe 1970. I was there.
This was country before country was cool
this song was country and pop music hit.

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes
When you take you got to give
So live and let live or let go
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well if sweet talking you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter?
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you
I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know
You better look before you leap
Still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talking about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes
It's been a minute since I've heard this Idk why but always thought this was Loretta Lynn
