Only Mercedes sells a diesel-powered plug-in hybrid powertrain - and only the E-Class offers it in the full-Executive segment, in the form of this E300 de model. You might have an aversion to diesel engines, and/or plug-in hybrid power. But if you haven't and you're browsing in this segment for an efficient, prestigious saloon or estate premium brand model, it's hard to escape the conclusion that this one offers something really rather interesting.

Thanks for the balanced review. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and loving the car so far. I bought mine for the occasional 280 mile commute to head office and a lot of the journey is on the motorway. My first drive was picking it up from the dealership and taken it home (320 mile drive) and averaged 74mpg. I'm averaging 65mpg overall with a trip yesterday of 50 miles returning 110mpg, so delighted with the economy! It's quite nippy too with overtaking done with ease. I'm really looking forward to running it for the next couple of years!

I m diesel Lover however Diesels have been severely ampered to the point its now a complete Scam
Going back a few years a Full Tank of Adblue would last you 10,000 miles which was accptable
Than years later reduced to 5000 miles 😳
And Now one Tank of Adblue only lasts less than 2000 miles 🤦🏻‍♀️ on newer models

A very EXPENSIVE way of achieving more m.p.g.. However our woke virtue-signalling politicians are ensuring the continued profits of giant motor corporations. Ridiculous when large parts of the world are still being offered conventional engined models. An example of that is the latest Honda Jazz in Europe and North America. These markets are restricted to a hybrid model while other markets receive a petrol engined model. The inference is that the huge hike in prices compared to the previous model are funding the expensive new technology.
Unimpressed by the whole net zero which still funds Chinese rare Earth batteries. The whole production and transportation still contributes to emissions while petrol and diesel had virtually eliminated harmful gases.
