Just a follow up to my previous post, so it does work after all but only as an add-on to your laptop without a CD drive, I plugged it to my Blu-ray player USB slot and it worked fine too. So yeah I'd recommend this but ONLY for home listening if you are going to use it for your vehicle you're going to have to fiddle with it at times.
People complaining about this price??? SERIOUSLY !!!!?????? YES!!!!! You can buy a $10 portable CD player and plug into your AUX jack. What you DO NOT get with that 'setup' is the ability to control the CD WITHOUT taking your hands off the steering wheel. With this item, you can control the CD with you steering wheel controls and if also gives you track information on your radio screen. It's a convenience thing. At for that CONVENIENCE, its gonna cost you.
Someone who is obviously from the distracted, multimedia generation - prefers to function with a thousand images flying at him! I'm able to listen to WHOLE CDs - songs in the original order on the CD as I did in the 80's and beyond - without needing or wanting to manipulate anything. That's what many of us Gen Xers miss. But I also think $500 is price gouging.
I just installed a Bluetooth receiver in my Chevy lowrider with auto sync I download my CD's to my laptop then transfer them to my tablet or smart phone and no more fumbling with a CD player I'm running 3 jl audio 12's in tuned slot ported labyrinth boxes components in all 4 doors and 3 amps with a upgraded power supply.
I just bought one of these and it is amazing- and I didn't spend $500 either. There are a number of brands that make these for around $100 and it is well worth it. I have a 2018 Jeep Renegade and all I got to do is plug it into the USB port and the radio automatically interfaces with it. It shows the track length and number and has icons to play. forward, or reverse tracks. The car equalizer works with it so you can set your levels just like you want. There is anti- shock built in so I can hit the biggest pothole (and I have) and there is never any skipping. I am so glad to put away the discman and stop wasting money on batteries. This little device for all of us who love our physical media is a dream come true
Nonsense to suggest that CD Player are anywhere near "obsolete" for car use so I gotta call BS here. This is simply the way Corporations cross market to push new technology for profit margins. We are held hostage, force fed consumers. Suggesting people want or need big screen TV with Apple carplay and Android auto for a safe and comfortable driving experience is a complete lie and manipulation of the consumer experience. What we need is a car that is affordable and rides with comfort and not in the garage all the time. BS corporate agenda capture of society as usual.
Actually the least amount of tech made the Alpine 7909 car CD player one of the best, if not the best in history. But that was in the early 90s, when fire and the wheel were still confusing to mankind.
Oh, I see. It's because technology has become so "advanced" that cd players are not available. I'm sure it has nothing to do with trying to sell you music that you've already paid for on cd, AGAIN, in a different format - MP3. MP3, of course, is a COMPRESSED format, meaning not-really-as-good as cd quality (granted, in a car, you probably wouldn't really notice the difference). But this still boils down to: NOTHING FULLY CONTAINED THAT'S BUILT INTO THE DASH! In my nice, OLD car, I don't have to use velcro to stick anything anywhere to play my vast collection of cds.
Wouldn't it be so much cheaper to just buy a Walkman-style CD player and just connect it to your AUX jack in your newer car? You can still use your steering wheel volume controls although you might not be able to switch tracks. That can usually be sorted with an inline adapter that can send the extra data through your AUX port, or if that still doesn't work you could still use the inline controls on many of those inline adapters to switch tracks and just attach it to the steering wheel.
I found my husband's elderly Discman (that also has a cassette adaptor hanging off it). My sister's radio quit in her truck-apparently common and unfixable with this particular Ford-and I was hoping the Discman would help. All I would need is an aux. cable from the headphone jack to the truck's aux. jack? Trying to keep it a cheap fix. The cost of the "new" external players this man was talking about was bloody shocking!
I had done that for years. It works fine, but you go through a ton of batteries and I always hated when the batteries would die in the middle of the song I was listening to. This thing eliminates all that. So much better

I'm 24, I started collecting CD's in my teens because, although they _started_ losing popularity then, they also _started_ becoming dirt cheap! I've probably got around a couple hundred as of now, and I keep every one of em in reach of my car stereo obviously.
I think it's really only a matter of time before CD's (as well as DVD's) become completely obscure, antiquated relics of the past. The most optimistic outlook is that they'll wind up like vinyl records; with an increasingly small cult fanbase who still remember, produce, preserve, and appreciate them.
That's actually pretty shitty.
We already see it happening en masse with literally EVERY form of popular media today. Fewer and fewer albums/titles/shows/games etc. are released in physical form anymore. The majority of those that still do come out are slimmed down husks of what they used to be ... and half of _THOSE_ are just a box holding a piece of paper telling you to download it anyway, THE OLE SWITCHEROO!! And now obviously we're starting to see CD players disappear from newer cars.
The reason this is upsetting goes beyond a collection or a hobby, it's about ownership, man.
When you buy media you're really just buying a license to use/view it, and that license can be revoked by the copyright holder at any time for any reason. Fun fact, you're technically not allowed to lend that media to someone because YOU are licensed to view that media. Luckily, even if you lose the license to something you physically own, nobody can legally take that item away from you; you'd _technically_ be barred from using it, but this is never actually enforced in this context, and you'd still possess your copy. If you decide to lend your neighbor your Metallica CD, the publisher isn't going to find out, nor stop you.
Contrarily, there's nothing to stop a copyright holder from revoking your license to digital media that you _literally can not legally access_ without said license -- which they are virtually always legally allowed to do since *they* own the rights and *you* signed a license agreement -- and that's it, poof, gone, you've got no recourse for compensation.
You can't let your neighbor borrow your digital Metallica album because it's tied to YOUR account, maybe even your device. If you make copies to send them, well that's piracy, and Big Brother is always watching. Remember Napster? 😉
Even worse, as has been the case with a lot of always-online games, if a piece of media *only* exists digitally, and the ©holder one day says "eh... Feck it, let's shut this down," nobody can EVER enjoy that media again unless one of the license holders backed it up ... and the kicker is, if that backup exists, it's *illegal!* That's piracy, thief!
It doesn't matter if the user paid good money for their license, they no longer have the right to enjoy something they purchased access to, and if they continue to enjoy it they are, in fact, stealing.
Neither does it matter if the game was originally free, got deleted, and the person redistributing it after isn't even charging money for it!
_they just don't want you to have it_
*cough PT cough*
And of course, it's all for the love of $$$.
Digital-only media is *far* cheaper to produce and distribute than physical releases,
sometimes sells for close to (if not the same) price as physical media,
can have its support dropped as quickly as it came which means the creators no longer have to work on it or pay upkeep while you no longer have art to enjoy,
and can just str8up be taken away from you, arbitrarily justified only by TOS that you yourself agreed to.
Digital media is obviously convenient, it absolutely has a place in our culture, but when it comes to ownership, physical is the way to go. The implications of eradicating it entirely are almost dystopian
Bravo. There wasn’t one lie in this whole comment.

Nothing like listening to and entire album of The Eagles or Frank Sinatra with NO Interruptions. thanks for this as I am not saavy at donwloading stuff from the interwebs. Old School Rules!
The technology is completely and utterly pants! They just don't give a damn for quality anymore. Anybody who thinks that a smart phone produces quality audio are criminally insane!
Peter Mitchell what a dumb opinion. CD and digital formats are literally the same thing. Vinyl is the only thing that is different in quality.
That's why the new technology is better. Free music, and better audio
Not to mention CDs are best for long car trips and I don't want to worry about my phone battery being at 50% if I break down in the middle of Nebraska... Even with this you can't have multiple CDs loaded

Most cars have an auxillary port. You can take a small portable cd player and plug in the aux cable and play your cds that way. $495.00 is insane.
You had me at Tim Bits!! Installing a cd player in my '22 Subaru Outback. Can't live without with the size of my library. Now to install larger speakers in trunk!! Send some TBs to California!! 🇨🇦 proud!!
CD's are better than todays online crap because it takes longer to connect look for a song etc.
I’m wondering if the satellite services are paying car manufacturers to not put cd players in the cars.
To me the cd is the most practical medium for home and car use.
Very helpful, thank you. But where is the website telling me the best CD player for my CR-V?
Not a solution, really. I would happily trade the radio in my new car -- where there are, at most, 2-3 stations I can tolerate for more than five minutes -- for a CD player.
Agree hate that the cd players got taken out of new cars. Its not easy to operate Ipods/Iphone music while driving, cd players were easy. I just dont buy music very much at all these days.
it's terribly annoying that they don'T put CD player in car anymore. The only REAL reason is because they want to upsell Sirius as they sell us cable tv instead of having it all for free. THAT'S the only fucking reason.
Always someone to fuck things up for us people...
That's a good point and I believe it. Its consistent with how business works today, and it's not for the benefit of the consumer like it was up to a few years ago.
Yeah? I just bought a 2020 Toyota and got a big surprise…No sattelite receiver, head unit is NOT compatible with much of anything.
I think the main reason I like using CDs in my car is otherwise I always have to make sure my phone or iPod is charged or plugged into the auxillary port. I like to throw in the CD and relax and forget about that. Leaves my phone free too.
I still love the cd.
i refuse to buy a car with no cd player. i’m totally okay with used cars. we’re not so technologically advanced we should be allowing car makers to do away with cd players because they want to SAVE $$
I bought a new 2023 suv..No CD Player...im devastated
Thank you. I just bought a 2020 Jeep and days later I discovered there was no cd player. I'm aghast.
Thanks bro!!! I was going to hold out buying a new car, but now you gave me a way out!
Will this still play and send through the stereo the high quality 320 kbps which is what a normal favorite artist music cd is? A lot of iPod is 256kbps and mp3 goes down to a lower quality 192 or even 128
What brands do you recommend? Great information. Thanks.
You can buy the same exact one from Ebay for $85.00 US with free shipping to Canada. I just bought one for my 2020 Dodge Ram truck.
I’m 32 & Just bought a 2017 & I have a lot of CDs I still use. I hate the “restored“ digital audio sound that download and iTunes gives me when listening to music. Still love my CDs. Will purchase this
I'm currently driving a Ford F150 XLT (It's a rental, my Jeep has a CD player) that doesn't have a CD player. It also does not have and aux jack. I have to use an FM transmitter to play my CDs. It's like I'm in high school again, having to use a cassette jack.

My 2018 Mazda CX-5 has NO cd player, bummed. I like the idea of this one but for this old lady on SS $500 is too steep for me! I need a much cheaper option for listening to all the cds I have. Maybe I should just return the car, lol!
I just made a post about losing my Mazda6 GT in car accident, It had a 6 stack CD player with BOSE premium sound. I LOVE the Mazda6 Grand Touring product but have found out 2017 was last year for Mazda with even a single CD player. So I will not even consider a replacement car past 2017. I only had CD's in the 90's as I use a microUSB drive with my music ripped to mp3's though I can also use Bluetooth. I don't even use CD's, much less DVD's for linux distro's. There pretty much frisbee's or coasters for beverages even fives years ago.
Thank you! I prefer CDs, but this device is so expensive.

I bought a Toyota Highlander got home and to my surprise no CD player. Thank you for letting me know the answer to play my CDs
THANK YOU. That's EXACTLY why it is worth it. Amortize the convenience over 10 years (or more) & I think my CONVENIENCE is worth $50/year!
I bet it sounds good.
So what kind/Brand did you get?
hi, would love to know which brand it is. thanks
so glad the prices came down on these external drives. Got mine on Amazon for $60
What brand please??
Not to knock your product, but they do make universal in dash cd/dvd players for newer cars. Decent one's are $129.00 +
So why doesn't this review include the name of the product and where to buy it?
Nonsense to suggest that CD Player are anywhere near "obsolete" for car use so I gotta call BS here. This is simply the way Corporations cross market to push new technology
for profit margins. We are held hostage, force fed consumers. Suggesting people want or need big screen TV with Apple carplay and Android auto for a safe and comfortable
driving experience is a complete lie and manipulation of the consumer experience. What we need is a car that is affordable and rides with comfort and not in the garage all the time.
BS corporate agenda capture of society as usual.
I’m always expanding my cd/vinyl/cassette/etc collections
I'd love to see this set up in a car. For the record, tech advancement or not, CD players in cars should not be scrapped - period!
I did. My new Honda doesn’t recognize it. Nothing.
I had done that for years. It works fine, but you go through a ton of batteries and I always hated when the batteries would die in the middle of the song I was listening to. This thing eliminates all that. So much better
Hello, question is this CD unit MP3, Wave and WMA compatible ? Thank You.
Are these available in the UK or specially made for you? Does it skip going over bumps like personal CD players used to? Any videos of it actually working in the car/ different cars?
This will only work in USB ports that support audio playback. The ones in your center console are usually charge only ports.
Not always, but you definitely have to make sure they support audio playback.

Please take it out to an auto and show how it works and that it does what you say it does, Thanks.
I have one of these and all you have to do is plug it into the USB port. The car will recognize the device and a screen will come up with icons to "play" "reverse" or "forward" and "pause" the track. It will have the track number currently playing and the time length of the song. These things are amazing. It even recognizes your car's EQ so you can use that to adjust your levels
