      We attended a production of My Fair Lady at our city's Theatre Royal performed by the repertory cast of the famous London drama organization in late 1963, and the costumes were amazing.
      They did a set piece for the race course scene and song, and all the ladies wore various white Edwardian gowns with black accessories. It was breathtaking.
      No tatty opera gloves, but many a plumed hat and frilly parasols.
      I loved it, and the audience actually gasped when we saw the stage filled with a gorgeous tableau.
      I bet the cast enjoyed dressing up too. Such fun. 😊

    It was touching to see the King & Queen become so emotional when his horse won. Also, it was an especially precious moment because the horse had been bred from Queen Elizabeth's horse racing stables, so that probably brought a tear to the eye as well. I love that King Charles has made it a mission to track down jewellery that Edward VII gave to Mrs Keppel to give to his wife Camilla, including the Keppel Tiara. This is crafted from a mix of platinum and gold, an array of diamonds and synthetic rubies. At the time of its creation, synthetic gems were still a fairly new innovation and were highly sought after. It can also be worn as a necklace. Love older designs that could be worn in different ways, very versatile.

    Agreed about Zara's floral dress. What struck me most about it is the fabric looking so much like it's right out of the 1980s. I sewed a lot then, and there were two trends: the super saturated colours like fuschias and royal blues and the like, and then washed out colours like in that dress; the washed out colours often were florals like this too.
    Zara's green hat reminded me of 1980s colours too, but in a much happier way. I loved it. I would only have liked some of that green in her other accessories.
    I often like Camilla's outfits, but on this occasion I was underwhelmed.
    I had loved Meghan's Ascot hat, and I very much liked the dress she wore on that occasion too, except that it emphasized her blocky figure. Beautiful dress, just not flattering to her.

Like I've typed, I'm old, but the pose of a relaxed ballet 3rd position seems to make a better line for the clothes and the body that's wearing them. The other pose looks awkward to me.

    I love a white dress. Cream doesn’t suit me as well, but it’s far more commonly offered in dresses that aren’t summer-only.

    • @kittyb9383

      Yes! Why is it that white is always more flattering than cream? Would love Beeb's thoughts on that topic...

    Ascot is the classiest of all summer events. Men’s Day Suits, are hot, btw. Omg! There’s nothing more hilarious than a flock of Furry Tribbles attacking a Laura Ashley dress. Queen C loves those jacket dresses, and the fabric is really heavy, so there’s no twirling up. And that black and white hat was super Fab. I liked that Lacey Bea dress, it’s the yellow toned roses, that throws off the balance. Oh no! One more MM Givenchy dress that was a total fail. I dislike handkerchief hemlines. And I blocked that completely out of my memory.

    What many people fail to understand when going to Ascot is that as it is a daytime event, and day dresses/outfits must be worn. No cocktail dresses, too high slits, no showing decolletage. Also the fabric should be a day time fabric and not an evening dress fabric.
    People like to break the rules, but mostly they end up looking as if they want to be noticed for 'whatever' reason.
    You should also look at the grooms who are parading the horses, there is a difference in the dress code of European grooms and US grooms.

    Zara’s white dress was made by Australian designer Scanlan Theodore (with apologies for any misspelling).
    Ladies Day at Ascot is traditionally black & white.
    Beebs, lately I have been thinking ‘why do I disagree with you so much?’
    Don’t misunderstand, I have every respect for your opinion and your channel, I look forward to your videos.
    Though, as I say, lately I have been disagreeing more.
    I’ve realised what it is; British/European fashion. Those high, empire waists are hanging, ready to be worn, to weddings all over the country tomorrow. They are everywhere at the moment. Worn by the short, tall, slimmer, larger and every body shape.
    I think that maybe, the more you see them, the more your eye is used to them and accepts them.
    In person, they can be very flattering.
    Currently I wonder that British/European fashion is very different from that of the US at the moment.
    I would be interested to know what you think? 😊

    • @spiritmatter1553
      @spiritmatter1553 Рік тому +2

      Agree, the empire line is quite flattering as it nips in at the smallest area of the torso for most people. I think she prefers Sophie in the crisp, more structured looks, which really speaks more to the Kibbe body types than fashion in general.

    • @BeebsKelley
      @BeebsKelley  Рік тому +3

      Perhaps, I do like empire waist dresses and they can be very flattering in general. But taste does always impact whether or not we truly like something or not, and thats a good thing & to be expected! I do like Sophie's empire waist dresses much of the time, I just find her figure better complimented in different designs, not to say she doesn't look beautiful or that the dresses aren't gorgeous 💛💛💛

    • @gloriasmess
      @gloriasmess Рік тому +3

      @@BeebsKelley absolutely. Taste is subjective, and important.
      It is expected that, where possible, the RFamily will attend Ascot. Which means new clothes every day.
      Some members of the RFamily have less money than others. Besides, can you imagine being ‘on’ in that way every day? It must be difficult! In that respect, I don’t envy them!

    • @user-jojo29
      @user-jojo29 Рік тому +1

      I agree, in fact, I prefer Sophie in the empire line dress compared with the white which I thought rather frumpy and unflattering. Beebs is, IMO, a much better commentator than many despite the style and taste differences between US and European fashion as she has reasons for liking/disliking which make sense.

    Whenever I see all the beautiful ladies and their dresses, and see the fun it looks like they are having being there, I am reminded of the absolute stupidity in MM giving this up, because she would have always been the third “most important” adult woman at the event (Queen Camilla, Princess Catherine, then MM) but that wasn’t good enough for her. Now she is trying to be a US Senator!?!? She has given up class and regal tradition for a shot at Congress. Ridiculous.

    I think you’ve got it right on with Queen Camilla. She wears fairly safe clothes but classy. Thing is when you get older the days of figure hugging? You’re not there by a long shot but take it from someone who has
    If you had an hour glass figure when you were younger? As you get older….the sand shifts. Wether you want it to or not 🤷‍♀️😉

    Lady Sophie Winkelman’s entire ensemble is heartbreakingly sweet. ADORE! I may have to draft a pattern for this one, including the pillbox hat. I just love it. The only thing I would change… using a 1/2” belt without visible notches, just a discreet hook and eye on the inside strap.

    Beatrice and Eugenie have the most inconsistent, ill-informed clothing sense. Nothing about whether modern or not, whatever, but so often the clothes are just not for their bodies. But I am old fashioned because the dresses I most love on the queen and on Catherine are those gorgeous print 'shirtwaist' dresses.

    I'm always surprised by Beatrice and how she has transformed into blooming fashionista. A real 180. Because I'm a pear I like MM's broad shoulders but I truly agree she should not wear a belt or bow at her waist which I do think is thick.
