Harry Borden is a professional portrait photographer based in the UK. He has photographed a myriad of celebrities with 100s of photos in the National Portrait Gallery.

- What sparked your interest in photography ?
- What was your first camera ?
- Have you always been freelance ? Or have you worked full time for an employer too ?
- Has there been a job (or jobs) you've been on where you came very close to just saying "**** you ! I'm off !", to an obnoxious celebrity ?
- Who has been the nicest celebrity you've photographed ?
- Who has been the rudest ? (maybe that was Mrs Clinton ?)
- Who is there left to shoot that you really, really want to photograph before you retire ?
- Similar to the above, but, who in all of History do you wish you could have photographed ?
- Did you ever meet one of your heroes, only to find out they were a total dick ?
- Have any photoshoots ever been a total failure, where you left with no usable material ?
- How many cameras do you own now ?
- Which one is your favourite, and why ?
- Do you have buyer's remorse for any of them ?
- Do you still shoot on film ?
- Which film stocks do/did you use regularly ?
- Was your job just to take the photos ? Or did you have to touch them up in Photoshop too ? Or was that the job of the client ?
- Do you think that the advent of the use of AI to create photos will hasten the demise of your profession ?
- Can you make a video of your Top 10, or Top 20 photographs you've taken.
- Seeing as you mentioned the James Dean photo. Can you make a video of your Top 10/20 of other people's photographs.
- Which photographers have been the biggest influence on your work ?
- Which single photo of another photographer do you wish you had taken ?
- Are there any famous photographers you feel are overrated ? (You're probably way too professional to answer that ! 🙂)

I noticed there were colour and black & white of thay final image. I'm always interested in shot selection. It something i tend to agonise over! So my question would be about Harrys process of getting to the final few images he will submit. And are there images hes come back to years kater that he now thinks were better.

Really enjoyed this one. "Be brave, ask, jump in" all great advice. Love the idea of ditching the entourage on the tube platform. Would Harry be willing to share images and stories of his first(ish) 'proper' commission?

@@fredandharryborden look forward to it. It's always nice to see how someone's work has developed over the years. It would also be really interesting to know how the business has changed. Harry touched on it a little when he mentioned the tube carriage and how that would be stymied now by H&S, PR people, release forms etc. But I imagine it's much more difficult to get free rein in terms of access, time, and image-making now with well-known people than it used to be. Keep up the vids, they're terrific, in spite of all the time and work for both of you. Cheers.

I had a woman get incredibly shirty with me for just taking the Pentax 6x7 I had with me on the day out of my bag recently. Thought for some reason I was going to take photos of her.
Wild you could set up a tripod and shoot a pop star without anything happening.
Absolutely! if you ask officials, they'll say no. But if you domit anyway, you vive everyu ine wiggle room. That's allowed mt to gate crash so many places and photograph, kinds, prime ministers and film stars.
