Hey guys & gals! I was watching a few Sub2k videos and found out how to re-assemble without having to depress the hammer to re-insert the bolt. During disassembly cock the gun and turn the safety on. This makes sure the hammer is not up blocking the bolt when re-inserting.
Found this out myself, the hard way
Thank you! I took mine apart and couldn't get the bolt back in. The official KelTec video shows the guy just slide the bolt right in with ease. My hammer was down but it still wasn't going in like in the video. Your finger in the chamber pushing down on hammer while sliding bolt in worked like a charm. Thanks for the trick, saved a lot of aggravation
How do I prevent the hammer from going down? I want to clean mine but want to avoid not being able to put it back together
@@yezkaholic yes you can just use your finger, you don't need a tool. Put a finger in and push down on the hammer until the bolt starts sliding over it
@@xkyox4945 worked like a charms thanks for the heads up. Also what do you know about the recoil spring does it matter wich side is in and out
Just rack the slide before you start disassembly. That will cock the hammer.
@@jungleno. my issue is even when the hammer is cocked it still gets caught on the bolt when sliding back in. There's a bit of play with it when cocked and I still need to push it down, just a bit before it'll slide past
Hey folks I just went all through this with my sub2000. Even if the hammer is cocked down, there will still be some resistance from the hammer. In Hickock 45s video he takes a skinny hammer handle and pushes the bolt from the rear. I used one side of rubber coated handle of needle nose pliers. Works like a charm. You can pull forward on the charging handle too while you're doing this. Takes very little pressure and it clicks right into place.

No mention of cleaning the buffer tube. After firing 500 rounds my bolt was super filthy and the buffer tube was likewise. I passed some shotgun patches with solvent through it and was amazed the bolt could slide at all with all the crud in there. Something to keep an eye on if you shoot a lot.
Recoil spring goes squiggly side forward, pay close attention to that y’all. I’m not saying he did it wrong, just adding in something he didn’t mention.
By forward you mean squiggly side in first?

When I clean any gun I spray some cleaner down the barrel and do a few passes with the brass brush and let it sit for a while before I send a few patches down.
To each their own. IMO The hoppes is a CLP so it just picks up what the brass brush loosens up and lifts out whatevers left over for the next cleaning.
Rack the slide to cock the hammer before disassembly. The bolt will slide right back in when reassembling it.

The manual nor the official KelTec video on disassembly/reassembly doesn't say anything about pushing down the hammer to get the bolt in. In the video the guy just slides it right in I'm like WTH am I doing wrong?
@@xkyox4945 so which one is it, push the hammer down right before reinserting the bolt assembly? I'm confused
@@yezkaholic yeah so you put the bolt assembly back in the tube. When it reaches the hammer it'll get stuck on it. At this point reach in and push it down a bit until the bolt assembly is able to get past it
@@xkyox4945 is there a way to prevent it from having to do that? The official Kel Tec video he mentions to put it on safety before inserting the bolt. I'm not sure if I want to field strip this thing anymore.
@@yezkaholic I could have sworn I've had the safety on when I was field stripping it. But maybe with the safety on the hammer is lower and the bolt can pass over it without having to push it down manually. I'll strip it again and see if that works. It is actually really easy to take apart and put back together, don't be worried about it. This was the only hiccup I had

Frustrating how do you push the hammer down
If push come to shove, a long heavy flat bladed screwdriver works. I think I saw a video on that in here?
I didn't push down the hammer and i forced the bolt into the chamber during reassembly. I should of watched this first. Hope I didn't break it

Short answer, no. It needs that spring tension on the recoil spring to delay the blowback and send the bolt home.

When you reach into the reciever, can you feel the hammer depressing when you push on it?
Is the hammer suppose to stop the bolt?
Make sure the gun is cocked/charged & make sure you put it on safety!! There will be a some hesitation regardless but just pull it back and it will slide into place.
But if you have the TOOL-LESS End Pin of the Recoil Spring with and
M-Carbo Bigger charging handle you will have to make sure the recoil spring end is in the hole of the charging handle First. Honestly between that part and the little drop in red buffer you put on the end of the recoil spring it makes charging the gun as easy as charging a ruger 10/22. Stock it’s a monster pulling back that charging handle. Also always clean your tube. That collects a lot of built up grime, gun oil, burnt & unburnt gun powder & all that mess. The Sub 2K is a very dirty gun anyway. I’ve never owned a 9MM PCC that ever ran that dirty. But with the right parts from
M*Carbo it’s a very GREAT RELIABLE GUN and very fun to shoot. Good Luck & this was a great video.
