I have been in that station when the World's Fair was there. There is a story about the parking deck beside the station that deck was built for the World's Fair they opened up the deck to parking no sprinklers no standpipes had a car fire in it by the time they got hose pulled in to the fire {no trucks would fit in deck] several cars was burnt and damaged one of the car's was the Mayor's car in a couple of days they had every thing they needed to build a truck that would fit in the parking deck

I see a lot of people complaining about the "editing", so seeing as this is my home city I thought I'd inform you all. First and foremost, station 1 is located downtown so their primary response zone is downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee campus (except Rescue 1 - which responds across the county). Being located in the heart of Big Orange Country station 1 responds to a lot of false fire alarms and drunk college students, as one would expect. Of course, like any fire station they have their busy days and slow days, these days usually coincide with the arrival or departure of college students. If this documentary was filmed during a slow day, or day(s) than it's easy to understand and see why the same unit is used more than once.
Great doc but maybe should’ve gotten a few more clips of different trucks leaving cause I’m the hay it’s an engine and then it’s the rescue leaving with the same grey dodge minivan passing by
At our station we have to keep our body weight as to our height scale so that none of us are overweight. I've seen a few overweight firefighters in this video. At our station if your 25 pounds over you are suspended without pay until your weight is with in your height limit. Looks like in Kentucky they have a weight problem......
Best job in the world 30 yrs!! Loved it , hated it, and still love it, retired now and frickin volunteer!!! Wtf?? And I’m NOT THE FIREMANS FIREMAN! Those that know, know exactly what I mean!!
a lot of free time??? not the greatest pay so on their off days after working 24 on and then off for 48 they do part time work...maybe they watch their children while their wives work... who the hell wants that... It would be nice to have a better paying full-time job but they can't... They arrive in the morning to the change of shifts get a report, if they don't get a call, check their trucks clean the building , maybe there is training then calls may happen, someone has to go buy their food after they all chip in their "meal money" for the 24 hr shift). They may have paperwork to study and submit, lunchtime if they don't have a call ... sometimes they don't get lunch till afternoon... there are specific days where the refrigerator is cleaned out, the floors are moped... hazmat calls, medical calls, fires, accidents... fill the boot... maybe get in a nap in case they don't get any sleep during the night. A couple of the guys prepare dinner and cook, everyone (maybe) eats, they shoot the bull for a little bit then get up wash their own dish, silverware rinse, dry and put em away. by now who knows what time it is so maybe they go study or watch a little TV or go take a shower and hit the hay... then during the night if there are no calls... great, they get to sleep if not... who knows they could be up all night... in the rain, the hot humid weather, snow, ice, storms...maybe they go on a call and have to deliver a baby, ... How many nights do they not sleep in their own beds then to make a little extra money they have side jobs... some folks can hold down 2 mostly full time jobs not Firefighters... They are also kind hearted men ... there are some female firefighters as well who sleep in their own quarters. When they return from a fire they stink of smoke and are stained with soot ... they have to shower to get the toxic crap off em... We love our firefighters. Some Fire Departments also operate the ambulance service... It most certainly isn't an office job but they love their work which is a must or you probably won't stay there long.
Here in manila Philippines we will have to report for duty 24hrs and 24hrs off... dont have much free time ..watching a very congested neighborhood.. Everyday is a hard job sometimes we have to fight fire for two days straight without sleep... And people here in manila dont respect firefighters... Lucky im retired
I hate the publics perception of a firefighter '' sit there doing nothing '' so annoying. I don't sit on my ass at the station, we drill on the yard on scenario based incidents, go to school visits.. Fit smoke alarms at peoples homes.. .. Maintain and check equipment... Inspect buildings for fire risks.. Car washes for charity organisations, gym to keep fit.. Attend refresher training courses, I love the job. Now and then is down time that's about it
Why did you use that same clip of the truck pulling out of the station 3 times? It's really frustrating, every time I saw the clip it took me away from the story you are telling...
It's gotta be disheartening when you hear a call that says there are victims trapped in a burning building. Most people would run from a burning building, but, you guys are brave and run towards them, even if it means that you might not make it back out. Last Easter, one of my old neighbors had been preparing their garage for a friend of theirs who needed a home. Well, they stupidly replaced the firewall in the garage with drywall and left a whole bunch of spray paint cans directly in front of their furnace. Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened. In the middle of the night, my family friend, who was watching my dogs while my family was out of town, said my dogs alerted to something in the middle of the night, and they wouldn't stop barking, so he went to see what they were going on about, and that was when he saw smoke coming from my neighbor's garage. He ran over there to see if anyone was home, alerted their nextdoor neighbor, and called 911. Thankfully, no one was home because, shortly after the fire department arrived, all the spray paint cans exploded, completely destroying the house. I truly don't know what we would do without firefighters to save us from horrible accidents like this. Thank you for your service.
I'm torn between becoming a firefighter and a cop. My old step dad was assistant chief of a volunteer fire dept. and my uncle is a luitenant of the look Police dept.
lol that kid in the beginning, doing the introduction. He was looking like a wannabe news anchor with that suit on and how he was walking towards the camera, addressing it... LOL hilarious, fuckin great that shit was amazing hahaha
ABSOLUTELY!. if the public knew the truth, most fulltime agencies like mine would go volunteer. 18 years of primarily EMS. THAT'S THE TRUTH. 85% EMS (A LOT OF BS HERE TOO!!!), 10 COMPLETE BULLSHIT...5% FIRE.
The percentage is much lower than one would think. Back in the day, it was normal to not to wear your scba and mask, now, it's almost required on any fire. Also, most depts. now have a smoking policy...like where I live, in Austin, NO SMOKING while on shift...and, they guys are required to work out. That greatly cuts down on the cancer, but also, obesity. If you want to be a firefighter, wear your damn mask when you are at fire, your lungs will thank you....most importantly, so will your family.
As Firemedic said, the rates are much lower now. Being vigilant and cleaning your gear is another way to lessen the risk of cancer. In years gone by it was almost seen as a badge of honour to have dirty gear... you've been in fires. The problem is that every time you put on that sooty bunker gear, soiled helmet, dirty gloves you are putting the cancer causing materials back against your skin or breathing it in. Be smart and try to lessen your exposure to these elements and you will be fine. As a volunteer we are not allowed to carry our gear in our vehicles unless it is in a bag in the trunk. This lessens the exposure to you and your family.
@@christait1719 you can lessen the exposure, but the risk of cancer is currently at 80% for firefighters. The city even raised the cancer coverage for firefighters. Why would they raise the coverage if firefighters were getting less cancer? Because they know the risk is still high or getting worse. You can clean your gear all you want. but before you clean it, all the cancer causing particles is being breathed in.
24 hour shifts? we got 12hr shifts over here 5 six days on and a few days off never knew why it did take an ambulance ont he road longer to get there than a whole team + truck at the station quicker..
+SaucySoviet Because medical calls are more frequent than MVA's and Fires combined. So if you have an engine company just sitting at the station while an ambulance crew is running all over the territory, you might as well put the citizens money to good use and get the engine company out there to help those in need. Some assistance is better than no assistance.
+BoscoVapes on top of Skygee 0829's comment, ambulances are also fewer in numbers that fire crews and cover a wider area, therefore it may take them longer to get to one side of their territory to the other that a truck company, and those 2 minutes really count for someone in cardiac arrest or breathing difficulties. The medical service in the FD saves lives.
With the exception of the kid that looks like the paperboy, but has a KFD uniform on, the rest of the ff's are out of shape !! If you're on the back of the rig, you're doing the work ! If you're an officer, you may be doing the work, depending on the nature of the call, manpower, and other calls @ the same time. So, I expect to see fit ff's. I see out of shape ff's, talking about being a professional cook. I had an Assistant Chief that retired from a major dept to join ours, which consists of 5 stations, and a vast area of coverage. Contents both rural and urban. Running thru it, a major freeway, speed limit of 100 kms/hr, although 120 is the norm. No barrier dividing the east from the west traffic, so you can imagine the MVA's when we have traffic crossing over to head on. He attended a structure fire I was working at 3am dressed in his dept t-shirt, pajama bottoms, and slippers. A giggle by me, but off to work we went. He was amazing ! He just retired from a major dept and decided to join ours in order to help with his son's university tuition. our gain. he couldn't do up the button on his dress shirt that was the farthest out, the one on his belly button ;-) and in the bay one day, I watched him light a cigarette off of the one he had lit in his mouth. he died a short time ago. sadly. our chief, is the total opposite. prior to becoming chief, he was a supervisor for union gas company. one sunny day, within a second, he lost 3 employees to an explosion. no longer able to work in that environment, he decides to apply for the chief;s position, and he's hired. wrong decision in my opinion. he's so afraid, his middle name is safety ! he'll be ordering us to fight a fire in a BFI garbage bin from across the street in no time !! he's dangerous by being too safe !
I think rather than using the exact same clips for calls and getting recording from what sounds like a game for dispatch, it'd be a lot cooler for the video to have included the actual response and dispatch information.
I dont care how much downtime they have. Their next call could be the last one with the guy they're laughing with. They don't get paid enough. The city should be paying for their food. They're on duty and providing a needed service for the city's residents. They spend a lot of time from their families. It's the least they could do.
Everyone needs to stop talkin about fat firefighters they do just as much as anyone else and when you call nine-one-one they will be there you're not going to care how fat they are or how skinny they are you're going to thank God they cameI'm a firefighter in it ticks me off that people talk about something they don't even know about
Idk how old u are, u may be older then me but let me say something, I'm 14 since I was... Hell since I could talk I have loved firefighters, police, emt, all that and the second I hit 14 I joined a local volunteer fairest stun it's been about a year and so far it has been the best times of my life. Even after a year the guys become like family it's fun and you learn so much and in the process help people. If your old enough I would recommend joining s volunteer station if ur under 18 it will help u during fire school because of how much you will learn. If you want to be a career firefighter when your old enough you won't regret it.

"They have a lot of free time so when they are not working they have second careers"Yeah that's why we have second careers!! How about the fact that some of us haven't had a raise in years when the cost of living is increasing, insurance costs go up and the cost of have families. BUT when you LOVE your career and the people you help you stay and find second jobs. All of the citizens life we touch daily gives us a true gratification and purpose. We as a whole will do everything in our power to save lives to include risking our own. What the public may not realize is we tell our loved ones we love them in the morning when we walk out the door with them understanding this may be the last time they ever see us alive.
yup, you're appreciated but damn sam let those empty buildings burn ... we don't want you risking your life falling through a roof... to hell with saving an empty structure ... trust the Lord to keep you safe... your family will really appreciate that.

wow they all look really fit !!!!
Lol
Awesome documentary I loved it.
Love the intro drone shot!
Tennessee actually
Best job in the world 30 yrs!! Loved it , hated it, and still love it, retired now and frickin volunteer!!! Wtf?? And I’m NOT THE FIREMANS FIREMAN! Those that know, know exactly what I mean!!
We are the first ones in as people are running out.
a lot of free time??? not the greatest pay so on their off days after working 24 on and then off for 48 they do part time work...maybe they watch their children while their wives work... who the hell wants that...
Besides saving lives, us who work on the railroad live similar lives.
this is the best video I've watched on youtube. Good job Edy
Fun and exciting.... Yea, fucking right.... They never told me about the dead people I'd carry for ever.
Now and then is down time that's about it
greatest job on earth without a doubt
Why did you use that same clip of the truck pulling out of the station 3 times? It's really frustrating, every time I saw the clip it took me away from the story you are telling...
I said the same thing. Great film, bad editing
very well done
Thank you for your service.
cellogirl11RW don’t thank us thank God
Why is it that almost NO ONE making videos for YT NEVER monitor the audio mix? The background music is WAY too loud.
Thats one hell of a fire house. My station is no where as cool as this one.
I'm torn between becoming a firefighter and a cop. My old step dad was assistant chief of a volunteer fire dept. and my uncle is a luitenant of the look Police dept.
Dull Nation go with what you like more
Dull Nation don't go with the cops. You will change and become crooked.
Why not do both. I'm a full time police officer and a volunteer ff.
You got a battle of the badges on your hands
when l grow up l want to be a firefighter , l live in brasil !
thank you all im putting this on every one of these my goal is 1000 of these videos
Shout out to Knox FD from Truck 47 Chicago!
lol that kid in the beginning, doing the introduction. He was looking like a wannabe news anchor with that suit on and how he was walking towards the camera, addressing it... LOL hilarious, fuckin great that shit was amazing hahaha
I

I'm making it a point to say THANKYOU SO MUCH rather then armchair you all on as many of these vids as I can I know its inadequate but I wanted to
what the song called after the Capt talks about team work
ABSOLUTELY!. if the public knew the truth, most fulltime agencies like mine would go volunteer. 18 years of primarily EMS. THAT'S THE TRUTH. 85% EMS (A LOT OF BS HERE TOO!!!), 10 COMPLETE BULLSHIT...5% FIRE.
I am very interested in becoming a firefighter, but the very high percentage of cancer in the profession scares me.
I think I want to be a fire fighter
Same here
Same
+Dantick09 It's a fun and exciting thing to do. Especially when you're just sitting around and the tones drop for a structure fire ;)
+Blake Taylor I applied but they are taking forever to start the selection process, maybe they are full this year :(
it will be worth the wait! :) best job in the world in my humble opinion
24 hour shifts? we got 12hr shifts over here 5 six days on and a few days off
never knew why it did take an ambulance ont he road longer to get there than a whole team + truck at the station quicker..
LOOK AT THIS DUDE SUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This guy at the beginning has fire fighting all wrong!! It's about saving lives and being a big family and teamwork I'm a fire fighter myself
Jee Fee looking @ your page I think youre lying
I think rather than using the exact same clips for calls and getting recording from what sounds like a game for dispatch, it'd be a lot cooler for the video to have included the actual response and dispatch information.
Can you list the music you used in this?
I dont care how much downtime they have. Their next call could be the last one with the guy they're laughing with. They don't get paid enough. The city should be paying for their food. They're on duty and providing a needed service for the city's residents. They spend a lot of time from their families. It's the least they could do.
Some BIG boys in that house. Holy moley haha
Yay! A female f f who drives! Ty!🇺🇸
Really well put together video.
Everyone needs to stop talkin about fat firefighters they do just as much as anyone else and when you call nine-one-one they will be there you're not going to care how fat they are or how skinny they are you're going to thank God they cameI'm a firefighter in it ticks me off that people talk about something they don't even know about
One thing that ticks me off is they're forced to pay for they're own food.... they're entertainment.... ugh
This is all I want to be.
+KopperKid555 I'm 33. First oral boards are next week. I'm blessed to live in a community where they still hire individuals with no experience in the fire service and have a 17 week academy. Go after it man, I hope to hear from you and keep me posted.
+KopperKid555 I`m now 14 and i want to be a firefighter, my friends are calling me dumbass `n stuff but you know when you were 14 how much you loved firefighters :D everyday i run and practice so i can get ready for it :D
Wouldn't take much to be better than you. I'm on a volunteer station and I'd rather know someone cared than have someone with your attitude responding to my rescue.
LoneFreedomFighter your fucking stupid were more commitited then paid are
the size of some of those guys.. holy shit
the pumper fire truck has to be the first at a fire
I would assume that the "plymovent" is there for a reason?
Never mentioned fire house drama and fights 🤣 oh lord who wants to be our new chief?
Great vid can you pls do a vid for police
April 26. Firefighter career. Jasdev Singh
Ten years as a volunteer and an EMT... FOR NOTHING after 9/11 at the age of 48!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's physical work all the time.
O.K. Knoxville.....you boys need to spend less time eating...and more time working out. I am a firefighter...and I make it a point to stay in excellent shape.
Suzanne Dickson you don’t have to be in shape to be a firefighter...
Emm Lew you don't have too but you should. It's highly recommended.
Emm Lew you must not fight real fires? You can't effectively attack working fires and rescues without being in shape yourself. You might he able to make it by. Most department have physical requirements unless you are an engineer.
Emm Lew say what? U think that 300 lb firefighter should be on a roof venting? Or walking on a floor? I wouldn’t want him as a partner! I counted 60% are WAY WAY WAY over weight! Did I say WAY?
The Ladder says "Engine 2" on it....
That's a teleboom and it is Engine 2. The ladder on it is for rescue only. The ladder truck in this station is Ladder 1.
That's going to be me in 4 years
Is everyone overweight?
what cameras did you use
اتمنه اكو ترجمه للعربيه وشكرا تحياتي
i guess this job is the only one where no business is good business
I am in 8th grade 13 years old and I want to be a firefighter and to help out in the community
Nice documentary but the music is annoying and way too loud
look at that tv set up lol
im a junior firefighter and i have been to a motor vehicle accident involving a street bike and a semi truck. I still have nightmares of responding to that call and seeing the street bike destroyed and the riders head smashed in to the guard rail and his body ripped in half we all prayed for the family because he didnt make it
Wow many of the firefighters are WAY over weight. I wouldn’t want to be on a roof with them venting a structure fire.
short more like 30 min long!
Knoxville is 15 minutes from where I live lol
Might wanna mix in some salads and fitness with the house cleaning. Ooooofah.
Cool table @ 6:28
The baby crying!😣
