This will eliminate the first ~20 minutes of this tutorial. *Therefore, you can start the tutorial at **21:17**.*

*IF YOUR GAME ISN'T LAUNCHING, AND IT DELETES YOUR DEVICECONFIG.LOG, YOU LIKELY MESSED UP WHEN EDITING GRAPHICSRULES.sgr.* Lots of people are stating that their deviceconfig.log automatically deletes. This is because you messed up adding your graphics card to the GraphicsRules.sgr file (16:19). You need to compare what you have against mine. Pay CLOSE attention.
You more than likely *have an extra ) right before where you're supposed to add your graphics card type (the 'GTX 10??' part), and removing that extra ) fixes most people's problems.* If this does not work for you, please perform a game repair on the EA App.

I keep getting the question, "If I have ___ amount of VRAM, what do I put?" Without further ado, here are VRAM numbers that I didn't include in the video!
1gb - 1024 (will be utilizing all your vram)
2gb - 1024
4gb - 2048
6gb - 3072
8gb - 4098
16gb - 8192

@@acottonsock When I try to save graphics.sgr it forces me to save it in the documents. Will it still work if its saved I the documents? And if not how do I make it to where i can save in the executables.
This is is a bit late, so I'm sorry about that!
It won't work if you save it in documents!
To let it save in the executables,you'll have to right click on the folder where the executable is, then click Security. After that, you'll have to click Edit. You'll see where it says Users. Under, you'll see where it says Full Control. You'll click that to give you full control of the folder. Then you'll click Apply. And that's it, you'll be able to save it now.

Also, use Save cleaner! Very important! It cleans your save, deletes all the accumulated bullshit and reduces the size. I play in huge custom worlds with over 200 sims and about 120 service sims. I started with 100 homemade pretty sims and now after all the mariages etc they're up to 200. These files become huge. After cleaning it usually reduces 1/4 of the size or more and it plays amazing. This way your files don't get corrupted and you can keep them for years. (always make back ups every now and then though).
Can you just delete the saves that you don’t need anymore. For example I have saved games that I no longer use and want to get rid of them, is it ok to delete safely?

Just in case people are confused like I was, to find what number you need to put in seti texturememory take your vram, divide it by two, then times that number by 1024. I have 12gb of vram so I did 6 x 1024 and got 6144. Hope that helps
So if I have 2GB, I divide it by 2 and get 1, which gives me 1x1024, which is the same as 1GB. I didn't make a mistake, right?

You saved my life! Sims 3 is currently my favourite from the franchise, however the lag KILLS ME everytime since I've started playing it in 2011, which led me to deleting all my saves and restarting again many times. Now I can run it smoothly and you explained everything so well for us Sims dummies! Thank you sm! You got a new subscriber ;)
You are doing god's work girl!! I've got an RTX 2070, which the Sims 3 config rated as Level 1 (the lowest), and was only using 32 meg of VRAM. No wonder the machine was running hot enough to burn my fingers (though it was running without lag once everything loaded). Much improvements, faster loads (though still incredibly long compared to anything else) and smoother gameplay. I may even swing by the Sims 3 store to pick up some new worlds to try now that it's running so well.

@@mathildeFR What specific part? The GraphicsRules.sgr and GraphicsCards.sgr inside your main sims 3 folder should only be changed and it should be persistent no matter what expansion you use.
Thank you so much for making this! I had already applied most of these fixes however my game still wasn't recognizing my graphics card and I had no idea. Safe to say between recognizing my graphics card and limiting my framerate, my game is running a lot better!
You could try to use the nexus mod link on the description. It will automatically do it for you.

I used to crash every half hour at minimum; and I'd gotten to the point where I just had to decide whether it was worth the frustration and anxiety of saving every five minutes lol. Since following this guide I have not crashed ONCE. That is HUGE. Thank you so much

*How to make Isla Paradiso not lag*
After reseting everything in the city hall using NRaas, *delete the Scott family*. This might sound stupid but they're literally the reason why the game mini-pauses every 3 seconds. Also resetting your town often is crucial because when houseboats are in random places, the games lags more than if they're in their ports.
It's so dumb but literally delete the Scott family and you're good to go. Also limit stray cats, dogs, and set horses and deers to 0. They will still appear in game (for me at least) but waayy less often
Somebody made a rerouted version of like all the base worlds too, including ip I'm pretty sure. I can try and find it real quick

Edit: SOLVED IT! REMOVE THE STUFF IN EACH FILE BEFORE BRIDGEPORT AND JUST UNZIP THE FIRST ONE!
The files should go from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 all with the same starting name
i used this awhile ago but i realized i never commented on it. this tutorial is the reason im able to play sims 3 at all right now. without this tutorial i would never know how to get my graphics card recognized. now i can play the game with max graphics settings and get a steady 60 fps. thank you so much

Are you require to change the Graphic Cards if your Device Config says: Found: 0, Match: 1 ?
I don't really recall having a warning sign for unrecognized video, my game runs smoothly, well except with CC and mods 😏. And just wanted to know if it's an issue if I just end up not modifying that file
Hey I got the same message. How are the graphics of your game? Mine is extremely pixelated.
You need BOTH Found and Match to be equal to 1, otherwise your GPU isn't recognised.
So I have a 'AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 3 Graphics' I don't think I'm wrong on this, because I used the add on support thing that's in the pinned comment that automatically does this first half for you, but I don't think mine was in their data(?)
So, because the way this is titled and structured is really different than the perspective we get in the video I offer support:
The second part of the graphics card section confused me at first. I didn't realize, that 'AMD' was the abbreviation and the number after it like how it's explained in the video will actually vary on how many digits it has. At first I didn't think there was one because I was stuck on the amount of digits and question marks... Answer is: This one has one digit; you only need one digit (and no question marks)... Just put 3. I also was afraid to delete lines of text in there, but don't worry. Changing the size of my display to match theirs in the video also helped to compare the two and see what was similar and different between AMD and NVIDEA more easily.
Then my trouble came and I launched and it still had both parts at 0... BUT turns out I needed to get PASSED the launcher. Make sure to press play. THEN Deviceconfig will update and you can check it and I had two beautiful 1's :))
Conversely to a lot of people the VRAM went fine because the add on support thingy was at least able to do that much for me hehe

Please please please can you make an updated version on how to download the world fixes? Now it's downloaded/installed using something called S3PE and I have no idea how to use that. 😭 (The file editing parts of this tutorial worked like a charm though!)

Given that the default settings didn't show any instances of "Ti", I'm guessing that the asterisks are sufficient. I'm running a 1070 Ti, and the DeviceConfig.log was properly updated, without me adding the Ti to my card name.
Thank you so much, this video is a bit old now but it worked for me. I got tired of the repetitive gameplay that the Sims 4 has to offer, and wanted to reinstall the Sims 3 but realised it was running worse on my new PC compared to my old and now broken laptop. These fixes solved that for me!

Thanks for your guide! I used to avoid using Bridgeport (even though I love it to death) due to the routing issues but I had no idea a fixed version exists. I just recreated my real family and I am going to give it another go with all these fixes applied. Here's hoping everything works okay 🤞

I started playing the sims 3 15 years ago in 2009 and i decided to replay it, however it was very unstable on my modern hardware. I looked for a fix and found this! it reduced my lag greatly and i am installing mods! Thanks

I played sims 3 for like forever! After a few years I wanted to play it again and my partner just got me all of the packs for it. I loved this game but I just realized that, with a newer computer, the game is no longer playable...
The game freezes for several seconds and the lags were unbearable.
I thought that I have to let it go and that I can never play it again. I literally cried.
Just before everything went down I found this video and I wanted to say "thank you" from the bottom of my heart and from my partner too.
He likes it when I have something I really enjoy and that he can have some time for himself without thinking that I maybe have nothing to do.

I actually play with a chipset laptop that's 3 or 4 years old. I have extra RAM, use NRAAS. I like CC. Yes, big worlds are a challenge. Thank you for your effort putting this all together.
Recommend using WinRAR, as 7zip has an issue of reading the file as having a data error instead of realizing that it needs the next volume.
It may be that I'm using an older version, but I don't know..

Move the file to your desktop, make the changes, save it, and then add it back to the Bin! That’s what worked for me!

Just a heads up if you have gpu with Ti in it's name, you need to add that to the file like so *GTX 10?? Ti*.
Hey girl, I'm following this tutorial (I didn't even know that my game didn't recognize my graphics card!) but at the sections where you're talking about the 'seti textureMemory', my card (AMD Radeon HD 8210) has no vRAM and uses the main memory of my system (this is what the website told me) and I was wondering what I should put instead or if I can put anything at all? you can "Save As" with the edited file, then just drag and replace it back onto the original file

@@tracyracy no I couldn’t change it, it’s telling me I’m not the administrator.
So I just put up with it. I had to turn off a graphics setting for my game to stop crashing, so the ground looks bad, but it’s running as normal besides that.

My game is right now is fine on Ultra after following many settings from anywherr, but I think I found more info here, so I'll check it out later!
I can’t even open my game. When the launcher pops up and I click the play button, it goes straight to the origin screen and does nothing. When I try to open up sims 3 through origin, it also does nothing. It’s been like this for at least 2 years now, that’s why I haven’t touched it. But now I’m determined to fix it. It’s really frustrating and I’d appreciate any help I can get!
P.S. I also can’t install any of my sims 3 store content. I click the install button and it does nothing.
If you still have this problem, make sure you have all the redist files the game needs to run, downloaded in your pc. Also maybe changing the compatibility of your game might help. Last but not least, have you tried repairing it through origin?

So, for the Vram part - what is the formula that was used to calculate the input for the seti textureMemory?
You say it will be half of Vram on your graphics card, but the values you have to put in are not direct divisions of 2.
4000 / 2 would equal = 2000, but you have 2048 so I just want to know what formula you used.
Also, do you know why in the seti textureMemory it defaults to 32 at first?
Often in Computing 1GB = 1024MB rather than 1000. It's mildly confusing sometimes for the average user, unfortunately.

Can I have a little help with the first section please? - my log shows I have "AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics" in both fields which doesn't have any dedicated VRAM because integrated graphics use standard RAM as graphics memory. As a result, I have no idea how to:
a) enter this so it can be matched (no 3 or 4 numbers at the end of the text like others)
b) which number to put for the seti texturememory

Thanks for this! I realize it's 2 years old but was following it because yeah, game doesn't recognize my Graphics Card. Got to 18:00 "VRam stands for Virtual Ram" not quite, it stands for Video Ram as in dedicated Ram on your Video card. Then I came to the comments and saw the patcher program and got a chance to skip the first 20 minutes YAY!

Hey! Funnily enough, we have the same graphics card lol. I followed your tutorial for the graphics card part and my game wouldn't launch after. I did backup my GraphicsRules and when I put the old one back in, it launched again sure enough. Not sure what I did wrong, has anyone else struggled with this part?
EDIT: Got it working! I didn't adjust the current end of the string to not be formatted that way, I just tacked what she said to add on with no adjustments at first. My bad!
Another commenter had this same problem. This is what they said fixed it:

Like, what kind of adjustments do I have to make? What did the other user mean with "the last piece of text before “*gtx bla bla*”)) part"? Do I have to get rid of the "or match("${cardName}"," before the ""*RTX 20??*"))"? Please clarify so I can get my game up and running again :(
EDIT: I got it working! For everyone confused, the two "))" means the end of the code. If the "or match-section" BEFORE your card ends with )) you'll have to edit it to simply just have ONE, otherwise your game won't launch.
matching the CPU on my mac doesn't work. i get the show contents folder but there's no game or bin folder AT ALL
Thank you for your video. I haven't played Sims 4 for about 18 months because I felt it was a big step back from Sims 3. I was going to reinstall Sims 3 again but after watching your video I changed my mind. I am an old man and I don't have the patience to do all that just play a game, I think id is an elderly thing. Thanks again for your time and effort.
In the pinned comment I left a link of an automated version of this process. It will automatically match your graphics card for you so you don’t have to do any of the notepad editing. 😊

So, I followed your tutorial on matching the graphics card... It worked, except now my deviceconfig file shows that [Found: 1, Matched: 0]
Note that I just downloaded the sims game. Did I do something wrong?

My game already looks so much better that it's unbelievable. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I really love The Sims 3 and being able to play it now after so many years is simply incredible! I have just one question, which is regarding my Graphic Card. It's a GeForce 930M (I have a notebook) and I don't know how I can make it be matched by the game (the game was able to find it, tho not able to match). I know this is a bit late, so if you could answer me on how I should input on the configurations txt file, I would really appreciate it. Thank you once more!

Thank you so much for this! I'm a little confused though at the 18:30 . I have 3GB VRAM for my graphics card. But I don't know how you got the number because half of 8000 is 4000 but you put 4096 so I'm a little confused on what my seti textureMemory should be ha-ha! Thank you!
So I put 4096 instead of 4000 because you're supposed to increase anything ram related by increments of 256mb (I failed to mention it in the video, but that's why)! I'd recommend for you to just do 1024 (which comes out to 1GB - roughly). Sims 3 is old so it really won't even require that much. Even utilizing 1024mb is better than the "32" number that was there before!

Start with 1024mb (equivalent to 1GB), if that doesn’t work, lower by increments of 256mb!
I have this too and believe it’s 516mb
