      3D printing is already miniaturizing these micro-jet engines... energy source is unlikely to change away from carbon fuels in the next 30 years, fuel energy density is the limiting factor of flight time in this, and it will be very hard to beat the energy density of carbon fuels in that timeframe. I could see a transition from jet fuel to liquid methane with material improvements to pressure vessels and insulation.

    You could strengthen the users arms with available hard or soft exo suit technology to allow for longer flight times. A more modular design would incorporate holders for the rockets in these exo arm pieces, and when not currently flying the user can simply fold them to their back instead of at their thighs. Just a few thoughts from a still learning engineer

    • @Ivan_Berni
      @Ivan_Berni 2 роки тому

      I think it will work at high altitudes, but the wind will push you hard and make you lose balance and die of course, is way safer to fly close to the ground.

    • @charliedoyle7824
      @charliedoyle7824 2 роки тому

      It can fly high and low the same. The problem with flying at high altitudes is it's dangerous; if there's a problem, you fall and die. That's why they don't go full speed (over 80 mph) or higher than a safe falling distance. The new class of jetpacks will eventually fly at altitude when they prove as reliable as a helicopter.
      Jumping from a cliff would only work if they fly from the cliff under power. They wouldn't jump first and then power it up.

    • @garyfreeman896
      @garyfreeman896 2 роки тому

      It would work as long as you are not too high as the engines are designed to work at low level air thickness. The higher you go the, the thinner the air and then less power will be available. Also I don't think you could jump off a cliff, you would need to start on flat land.

    I know you guys abandoned the early design of having jets on the feet due to the instability it caused. But it seems to me that this was because the leg jets were too powerful and expected to bear the load of the entire body.
    Would it not work better if there were outside ankle jets that were much smaller and with less thrust so each one just bore the weight of that leg and a little more.
    That way there could be a back jet for the majority of the trust, then a smaller one on each limb and that would give you four points of positional and directional control instead of two. It would also mean the pilot became less fatigued over time.

    • @1asdfasdfasdf
      @1asdfasdfasdf 2 роки тому +4

      Don't know if you saw the Cisco video or not. He made a comparison to hovering a dog over water and it wants to start paddling. They had same issue with humans. We instinctively want to pull our legs up once leaving the ground which of course throws the thrust vector off. That sounded like the main reason they abandoned the leg jets. At least to me ;-) (edit: fixed some typos)

    • @ThornMu
      @ThornMu 2 роки тому +2

      Indeed, the issue of the pilot's instincts is what makes the leg jets unusable. Our instincts aren't designed for this method of movement and act contrary to our benefit in this case. Using the arms for the movement, they bypass most existing instincts and can write new muscle memory much faster than if they had to first unlearn such deep wiring.
      So, while your concept has merit, it would only work for a select few who could succeed at such mental unlearning, which significantly narrows the already small pool of viable pilots.

    • @bjma654651651
      @bjma654651651 2 роки тому +1

      The back jet already bears most of the weight. The arm jets are for manoeuvring, plus a bit of load bearing. It’s effectively a tripod design, which is the minimum stable arrangement.

    • @NR-rv8rz
      @NR-rv8rz 2 роки тому

      @@bjma654651651 I get that powerful leg jets are an issue. But I think weaker ones would allow the pilot to feel like he's on all fours crouching on a surface of air.

      The added fuel weight would dramatically reduce the already impractical 6 minute flight time.

    This is potential realized. Mountain navigation. You could use this in search and rescue to locate a lost survivor and triage them while EMS is on the way. This could revolutionize Mountain warfare.

    This is amazing, have been a fan and followed you guys for a while now. My advice is add a very lightweight exoeskeleton that absorbs the pressure from the jets so everyone can use it, and you can make this a lot more mainstream. Also in the longer horizon i would work on a lightweight suit that could absorb pressure/imapact to save user from injury from at least small falls.
