Thanks for posting this. I am bringing my father in law and his 92 year old aunt to Fleming Neon in a few weeks (he was born there in the 1930s) and now I know where to get gas and ice cream while there.
Wow, this was a great video, I was born in Fleming but, left there in 1957, when I was 5 years old, I have been back there twice since my family moved. My father and mother was born in Cromona. I still have family there. Next year our family reunion will be held there, it will be the Harris Family. I want my children and grandson to know where his ancestors came from. My father passed away two years ago but growing up he always enlighten us with his childhood of growing up there.
Awesome. I'm a Shelton from Tomm Bigg's holler. I miss home. I love living there as a child. Enjoyed riding my bike, sledge riding, halloween (corn-night), hop scotch, four-squares, jumping board, summer camp, bible school van. I had real fun activities that kids don't have anymore. It will always be my home. You miss and appreciate it more when you're gone.
Oh wow, this brings back so many childhood memories for me. I was born and raised there. My father is john Dewayne Baker, aka Wayne or breather. Mother Julie Baker. Grandmother Katherine Baker, and grandfather Ted Baker. I'm related to the browns as well. Most of my dads side of the family still resides there. I miss this place from time to time. After all, it's the place that built me. I was raised on that same street, just down a little further, right by welchs holler. I miss eating Mike Johnson's, I was upset to see that they closed. I grew up eating there.
My husband is from Whitesburg, we havent visited in several years, but I think its beautiful there. It seems so much more laid back than where we live, or at least thats the impression I get.
I was raised on Beaver, I remember going in Dawhares that use to be there on the mai. Drag in Fleming Neon, MANY years ago. The Dairy Bar is very familiar also...good memories.. Dr. Acker was my childhood doctor, I remember when that horrible tragedy happened to him and his sweet daughter. God rest her soul. ❤ #GodBlessTheCoalMiners
Dude, nice video! I haven't been home to Kentucky since 2010. Part of me misses those mountains, but I must say I'm pretty happy where I live now in Orlando. Thanks Rick for putting this together. You should do video past Neon Junction through 805 into Haymond, go by my old house near Haymond Hill.
Great to see this area again. I'm from Ohio, but my Mothers side is all from Neon, Jenkins, Wise & Dunbar VA. Johnson, Mullins, Meades. Some of my best memories were back on my family's property in Neon. Thank you for this video😎
I live in Vermont now. Save for the accents and coal mining (here it is timber and technology) it could be VT or New Hampshire. My best friend in this life, the late Jan Anderson, was from Neon. He was a great athlete and coach and a mentor to me. Thanks for the update.
My mother was born there on a hillside in neon in the 40's I used to visit there as a kid... None of my family members from there are still living. Had Collins, Mullens, and yonts as relatives there many years ago!
Well the last time I was there Mike Johnson had closed so I don't know if it's a Custard Stand anymore or not cuz it's been a long time since I've been there and I do miss home❤😢
4:01 turn left to Seco! My home! Moved in 2003....been gone for a decade plus. Go back occasionally for family and it's so sad how it's went to shit. Happy memories that equal to a sad reality now. Mikes is closed now....unfortunately. however, Robo's is across the mountain! 😁 Great video and music!
My Mother {Hazel} was born here in 1927 to Christopher Columbus {C.C,} and Ethel Williams .. I would love to trace my people back to see if anyone is still there that is related to me.
8/2/20 THANK YOU, I ENJOYED THIS....BUT CAN YOU DRIVE SLOWER NEXT TIME ? CAMERA GOES BY SO FAST CAN'T SEE ANYTHING FOR A SECOND....BEEN TO MIKE JOHNSON'S DAIRY BAR SEVERAL TIMES..., Didn't know they built a new Library tho.... saw the old A&P Store used to shop there.....Where was the Fleming-Neon High School? Looked like you turned around in the Football Field ..... Wanted to see Tucker's Cafe, used to go there almost every day for lunch...went to school with the Tuckers' Son's wife....Janet Tucker... we used to go in the HAZEN 5 &10 cent store, Wise Store, Dawahare's Store, Kraft's Store....and the store next to Tuckers' Cafe, think it was a 5 & !0 cent store too....used to go to the Drug Store there..... Please do more, can you go up past the Jenkins Lake and back down and show the homes on Lakeside ? I remember when Dr. Musgrave lived on Lakeside....don't recall who else did, I think just the big shots in Jenkiins LOL....Been in the Jenkins Hospital a few times there too....did not see it... Also the meat Market across the street from the Dollar store, we always went there and bought all of our meats....Is Dr.Perry's home still there ? I know they build some new beautiful homes above where he lived, can you film those homes.....I never was up there but been told they were beautiful..... Thanks again for posting this ....
my whole family almost lives there, the roses, the wards, the branhams, and the mullins... i love going up there and going trail riding and i love it there, just not some of the people. It is a beautiful place but hurt really bad from the coal mines shutting down
madguy1010 we are family then man. I'm related to the Collins,Mullins, stidhams and the Johnson... my whole fathers side is in jenkins at Johnson holler.
Jerry Potter might be from Abraham Potter's family that settled at Potter Flats in the Breaks Interstate Park near Elkhorn City. He moved there from Ashe a County, Nc and prior to that, grew up on his dad, John Potter's Revolutionary War land grant along Elk River in what is now Carter County, TN. Some of his family didn't make the move to KY and still live on the NC/TN line.
My brother Carter Bevins he works for the fire department glad y'all went through town brings me back home so thank you❤❤❤😊

I just ran across this, makes me home sick even though I never lived there. My mom's family is from Cromona and I used to spend the summers there. 😔
