My mother's side of the family is from letcher my great great great grandmother was Amanda Holcomb married a Phillips I don't know much about them but my uncle still lives there with his family

My mother was from Beefhide and grew up at Thornton. I'm doing the family history now and this is amazing. I would love to get good copies of some of those pictures. Grandparents were George W. and Maxie Alta (Wallace) Wright. Thank you!

Thanks for posting that! It was interesting to see where my mother, Ruby Mae Hogg, grew up in the 1930's and '40s (she left in the early 1950s to join the Air Force). I watched to see if any of my ancestors were pictured. I saw a couple Hoggs, but I don't think they were in my direct lineage.

My dads family is from Jenkins KY . Most of them have past or moved decades ago . MY uncle was pretty well known there Raymond Smith . I've not been to Whitesburg or Jenkins in 30 plus years . I remember the beautiful mountains I'm from western Ohio where its flats . I'll show my dad the picture towards the end of the Smith Brothers from Jenkins maybe that's my grandfather who knows.

Crazy call me insane, but I was hanging around one night in pound, I had no business being there, looking for the C&O, in the Pine mountain tunnel, stupid me 58 at the time, I went in the tunnel, with a miner hat and light, climbed over a couple piles of debris even some track, then a man stood in the centerline of the track, and told me to turn around, it was John Wright, so away I went never to return. .

I miss Pound VA, here in WA. Where I live came dozens of Pound VA. Families from about 1910-1965 they like my family (1963) came to WA. To work in the timber.some of Devil John’s relatives including grandchildren have lived here, most all have passed on but I hope their children and grandchildren will want to know about Pound, Flat Gap, Wise, Mayking, Whitesburg and other ancestry towns. John Wesley was my 3x Great Grandfather, I was able to trace my linage through Ancestry. How amazing, I currently live in Pound. I've never known this side of my family, I ended up living in The Pound by happenstance! My son, can probably say he's the 4th Great Grandson, I'll have to take him here.

I was raised on Beaver, I remember going in Dawhares that use to be there on the mai. Drag in Fleming Neon, MANY years ago. The Dairy Bar is very familiar also...good memories.. Dr. Acker was my childhood doctor, I remember when that horrible tragedy happened to him and his sweet daughter. God rest her soul. ❤ #GodBlessTheCoalMiners
