Let's observe the effects of Sodium polyacrylate and water. Sodium polyacrylate can absorb it's own weight 300x over making it an amazing chemical to aid in water cleanups. What would you use it for?

That's the bubble baff shit.I knew it was as soon as I saw the opposite reaction. That's so cool how people make that.Meaning Bubble baff takes like 1 min or less to make for an entire bath.Seems fairly simple for something so complex.
This is fantastic. We literally just did an experiment to make fake snow using sodium polyacrylate. I’m going to try adding salt and seeing if I can reverse the process. Thanks for posting this.
I like to do all kinds of things on this channel. Variety is the spice of life! There will always be more hacks coming along and there will always be science.
A solid assessment.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I'm not sure if you'll see this, but thank you for making this video! I'm hopefully going to be doing a paper on sodium polyacrylate because of this video.
now THIS is the kind of stuff i'd like to see more of on this channel!
i like that this channel is demonstrating the science behind their stuff more now.
As someone currently having such shakes, I am inclined to agree.
that made me lol
you win the internet for tonight sir
your video is awesome, just wish it was a bit longer and you post more
I just edited the description with a link where I bought it.
i remember a similar thing from when i was younger. it was done in a product called Jelly Baff, i believe. it made bath water solidify and turn a different color. When bath-time was over, some granules poured into the mixture reverted the process.
AWESOME
Wow!! Love that. Where can i get it?
Really cool video, I have always been curious about the reaction that Wallace Hume Carothers carried out to make nylon.
Just a quick question: What happens to the Sodium Polyacrylate after you add salt into the mixture?
YES! Thats the brandname! Several colors and scents.. I think it was JellyBath I bought like 10 boxes for the kids... too bad is one box/bath. But it was tons of fun!
That is actually really neat. Cool! :P
That's not a chemical reaction, is it? Polyacrylate stays as polyacrylate but just absorbs more water. No chemical change has happened here, right?
Yep, you are right. It's not a chemical reaction.
yeah, i hate it when people say that that stuff it, like soda and mentos, no chemical reactions happening
That's seriously awesome
what if you left your hand in there for a long time? would the gel get dryer and stronger?
thx. i did this to my dad and he thought it was awesome. I love household hacker, your why i have gallium!
Once you add salt, would you just have to keep adding powder/salt to keep the reaction going over and over?
is the Sodium polyacrylate, water, and salt mixture safe to drink?
I love scientific stuff like this ^.^
This is pretty cool
In the end you said it turns to H20 again. Does that mean it would be safe to drink? Or would the polymer affect the water?
wow what a great household hack
You just made squishy baff
Oh the memories
So cool.....love it
Amazing!
After you added salt where did the polymer go? Or do you need to buy more
That's so cool!
the science is back :D
wow! that's too cool man!
Very cool video.
It will hold up to 300x for clarification.
Now this was cool!
can you try it with diffrent kinds of water? And with diffrent kinds of soil? Like sand and water, and peat/swamp soil?
Does it decay in any way? I would love to suspend a figure or object in the gel as decoration, but if it melts or something that might not be too feasible.
This is really cool
So, is it useful in more than one way?
Looked like heisenberg meth when it turned blue
if u were to reverse it would the water turn to salt water or would it actually mix with the chemical and disolve and actually be drinkable?
i saw an ad on tv a while ago for something to turn bath water into a gell for kids and it would turn back to water when you added something. is this all that product is?
I've seen many videos like this but never knew about the adding salt to reverse the process. Adding food coloring makes it way cooler haha
is it possible to make sodium polyacrylate with household items?
I think i've seen something like this for kids bath time toy. It didn't solidify the tub, just made it slimy. Then salt was added to drain the water.
Is it safe to drink after adding salt?
HouseholdHacker
So, if I take a bathtub with me inside and a friend dumps enough of this stuff could it keep heat inside?
I accept this and will recommend you for a promotion
its like smoothie when he puts it to his hand
Can you prepare a home-made powder like this?
did you use regular table salt for the reverse reaction?
wow really awesome but what is that water? O:
Yep. just weakened a bit I think. That "reverse" stuff that turns it back into water in the commercial is just NaCl (Sodium Chloride, Table Salt).
So after adding salt, can you drink it?
now after watching so many of your videos i would like a make a suggestion and even a request that can you please teach that how to make a solar panel for low cost
Does the water absorb the salt when the process reverses?
I may see about asking my chemistry teacher to tie this in with one of the lessons
You can buy this and use it in baths. Its popular in the uk
I'm guessing it raises the freezing point of the water until it becomes a slush? Or does it actually absorb it?
Is the water editable after adding the salt? and is the power editable?
Yep. Same stuff. You can buy it in bulk and have lots of fun with it.
Yep some thing like that. Cant remember for sure the spelling. I thought it was JellyBath but might be jellybaff. Availeble in several colour and scents..
It's really easy to buy in gardening shops.
Right, so, how did him putting his hand in it help us understand how the reaction occurred?
Awesome, this actually could be useful
at the end you said salt turned it back into water... is the water from this safe to drink?
Did you type your comment with your feet or do you already have hindlimbs?
If you added the salt and the powder then poured the water in, what would happen?
Awesome!
Is the water drinkable after we add the salt?
My thought exactly.
Interesting but would the average person have a use for this?
Wow....magic.
Can you drink it?
is the water drinkable after the reverse reaction?
So this powder would be ineffective in salt water correct?
No, It makes perfect sense.
what would the chemical equation for the reaction be (including the h20)
can you drink it again after you add the salt, other than it being salty
not sure exactly how it works but i no for a fact it does not change the freezing point, its much more likely that its a polar molecule that attracts the water but it has some sort of structure or something to allow it to solution. again dont quote me on this i probably got this somewhat wrong but im 100 percent sure its not deeling witht the freezing point
That stuff loks like fun oh and were did u get that awesome t-shirt frm? :-D
So does the salt turn the polymer back into a powder?
Is that what Bubble Baff is? It's this stuff you put in the tub for your kids it turns into that like a slushie texture. And you use this powder stuff to turn it back to water so it goes down the drain.
I work for Evonik corp and we produce the acrylic based products that absorb liquids. Its easy to use but its a hell of a process...
How difficult is the process? Is it made by oxidation of propylene ?
can you drink it?
Syrup that is mixed with the little superabsorbents in diapers to this make's it better than napalm it stick to everything and you can't get it to stop burning easy with water unless you have a firehose. I don't recommend making it but if you do, throw it on asfalt or concrete far away from buildings like a parking spot because you'll be surprised how intensive it burns and hard to put out
Does it glow?
So If you add salts to tampons?
You can re-use them?
is the water safe to drink after:P?
is it drink able after its turns into water again?
would I then be able to drink the water?
Is there any way to get the stuff back after u added salt to it?
Is this safe to drink after you made it H2O agian?
It is. You can probably get them from a toystore near you.
Where can this be bought? I heard you say plumbers use it. Thanks!
Frank
@tacogamer20 an acid and a base does not create water, the mixture just neutralizes, but water is also neutral so I can see why you said that.
It looks like itd feel like a sandy jello, that would feel really nice :o is this true?! :D also where might I get this c:??
