THANK YOU!!! I just purchased 2 plum trees and was a little worried about planting them properly. I love watching you, you are right on it without all the talking and nonsense in your videos and that is VERY APPRECIATED by me. Please keep the videos coming.
I honestly appreciate the support. My passion has always been to see others do well. I doubt that I would ever be a millionaire because I’ll always find someone else who is in more need than myself. The blessing is in being able. 🙏🏽
Thank you for portraying a positive life that other black kids can look up to for inspiration.

Hello my friend. I'm jealous. Nice and flat, all organized, NO rocks is but a dream. We have 4 acres of ledge, and what isn't ledge is rocks. Even our in ground garden is technically a raised bed.
The area where we put our garden in needed 4,
40-50' pines cut down. 20"s +/- in diameter. Set them in a rectangle fashion and filled it with top soil. The rest of the property is mature woods,
nothing but shade. So, between the lack of garden soil, lack of full, dawn til dusk direct sunlight, and an abundance of woodland critters one might think we're lucky to grow anything. We planted one bare root apple tree the year we moved in. By Spring there was nothing but a 12" trunk sticking out of the ground. lol Nope, at 70 years old I'm not starting a war with the ground OR the deer.
Nicely done Keith
Mark and Rosa
Hey Mark. It would seem that you and Ms Rosa are doing well. Always a pleasure when I see a message from you. I have not forgotten about the raised bed build. I’m kinda glad I didn’t because I finally found a way to preserve the wood with a product called milk paint. 100% organic. A lot has been going on behind the scenes. I’ll soon have my store up as well as a free membership for people like you and Ms Rosa. People that I want to share these blessings with. Haven’t quite figured it out yet but as I often say, “I ask God for direction and blindly follow”. Seems like the garden was where I was supposed to be. I get to meet people from all walks of life headed in the same direction. “Growing”…. Mentality, spirituality, physically and emotionally. In a world that’s moving faster than one can imagine it’s amazing to be able to touch so many simply by slowing down. Who would have ever thought that a hello or how was your day would mean so much to so many. I’m coming to understand that this channel is not about gardening but a calling for service to others. Amazing individuals message me daily just to say thank you for replying. Preparation meets opportunity…. This is who I have been my entire life. In speaking to a life long friend a few years ago and expressing feeling a lack of purpose he said to me, “You are a teacher, you lead by example”…. Now here I am on a world stage, just being me and so many appreciating the example. “When preparation meets opportunity”. I never imagined I would be Growing Out The Box 🙏🏽

Lovely to see you busy in the garden. Watching the process, as simple as it may seem, is helpful. Last year when we planted our bare root apple trees we were told to place the graft facing north; is that a guideline you use or is it not necessary?
Not too sure about that because there are many different types of grafts. Bud grafting,
Whip and tongue grafting, Approach grafting,
Cleft grafting, Bark grafting, Side-veneer graft....
Just learnt about edging for weeds . Awesome
Something for everyone. Hey, testing my site out. Check it out growingoutthebox.com
Love your videos keep up the good content brother, I will combine your techniques with what I've learned from my own experience and watch my homestead grow. We are currently in Minnesota trying to move to Tennessee to build our homestead
Please share some of your techniques?
Absolutely! I've been building a UA-cam channel on our journey to self sufficiency, but have not got to planting content yet. I plan on showing how I make a watering system for my raised beds that targets just the roots, how I make the best out of watering by utilizing yard trimmings and natural compost. Unfortunately I won't have a growing season this year with preparing the house to sell and move. I will also use neem powder mixed with mint oil and water in a spray bottle to mist the foliage as a natural pest repellent. I've learned from another wise man a few good tricks😀. Do you allow respectful visitors to make guest appearance on your lovely homestead?
BTW, I like that you actually interact with your viewers, you got a new subscriber here, many blessings brother can't wait to see more and learn
@@ROTTNHOMESTEAD 1st I want to say thank you for recognizing the interaction. I have to come up with some other names other than viewers or subscribers. That to me is so impersonal. The personal attention to those who take the time to message me and ask questions is where I have found my greatest growth. What I have learned in this journey thus far is that people just want to know that you are listening to their needs. They open up and show genuine appreciation for nothing other than answering what most times are simple questions. I’m just enjoying the journey.
Thank you for your message
@growingoutthebox I agree, that taking time to talk with your audience instead of to them has a much greater impact when answering their questions. Another thing I will do in my videos is give credit to those I watch, like when I plant my berries and cut the root ball, I will point out that I learned it right here from growingoutthebox, because helping those that help me is the best reward I could ask for.

What part of Georgia do U live very good garden tips
Metro Atlanta
@growingoutthebox I too live in Georgia u gave me alot of tips to use in my garden not as much room u have but trying to make it work
Thanks for your video question I have three plum trees but the plum fall off what I need to do are how I need to treat my trees
You need to put flowers that bloom early near your plum trees. Sounds like poor pollination. The answer is to hand pollinate. The male has a anthers and the female a stigma. Anthers are sacs at the tips of the stamens in the flower, which are the male parts of the flower, that are filled with pollen. Use a fine, clean paintbrush and brush the pollen from the anthers onto the stigmas of each flower.
❓ I've been looking for an answer maybe you have. How good bad or not does natural organic fertilizers affect the worms?
Organic fertilizer work because of earthworms and microorganisms in the soil. Your plants can’t uptake nutrients without microbes being eaten by nematodes. The plants feed off the nutrients released in the waste of the earthworms 🪱, nematodes, arthropods and such. Synthetic fertilizers disrupt the cycle. Because the plant is now being provided food from the synthetic it has no reason to release exudates that are exchanged for food so the microbes population drops. Your plant will request the nutrients when allowed to communicate with the biology. The mulch represents fallen leaves. Fungi brake it down and it’s that cycle that ultimately feeds the plant.
I hope you are drinking lots of fluid while out there. You working!
Yes Ma'am I am and thank you. for your concern.
How do I prepare the natural soil after I’ve found out that the entire housing subdivision was built on a landfill
My soil isn't the best but I use it by mixing is with beat and compost to say on soil cost. You can reclaim your bad dirt and make it back into soil. I dig out under my raised bed half the height of the bed. Fill the hole with yard debris and place the native soil back into the bottom of the raised bed mixing peat and compost on the bottom half. Put the good stuff on the top.
Nice work! I live in north Georgia. Where did you buy your greengage green plum from?
