From FAQ: When an enemy card is revealed from the encounter deck, Thalin’s ability resolves before any keyword or “When Revealed” card effects on the encounter card.
In the video, occurs the inverse.

These videos are great, but they are superficial for those who do not have the game or haven't red rule books.
There are 2 books of "how to" comes with the game.
- 1st book of about 30 pages "Rules of the game".
- 2nd book of 26 pages "How to play", with pictures and examples of each phase).
After getting along with books, Video becomes very understandable.
Because after what happens, like drawing encounter deck, moving from staging area and so on, there an "Action", or I cal lit "Player action" what you can do at that moment.
Both are easily found on internet as PDF.

What if I don't want to travel to a location revealed by the encaunter deck? Do cards just pile up in the middle?

You actually did a mistake while questing XD. When the Dol Goldur Orcs revealed you shouldn't add 2 damage to Thalin, as the player playing tactics isn't the first player this round.

Only problem with this tutorial is, they teach you how a move is done but doesn’t explain well WHY you would want to make that move.

I don't understand this game at all! some of the video instructions differ to the manual provided. very confused. makes no sense.

this game looks great but i would have liked it if the artists had drawn the characters that appear in the films to look like their actors, but only a minor nit pick

Even if the artists wanted to draw them like that they can't. Fantasy Flight only has the license for the Lord of the Rings books and not the movies.
