  • In this video I discuss complex and contrast styles of training, which are likely the best methods of strength training for speed and power athletes who want to sprint faster. If you are a sprinter or want to improve your 40 yard dash, this is how you should be performing your strength training.

      I didn’t get a response, I will say a lot of your advice is good, but you neglect minimizing inefficient leg weight, especially lower leg weight, looking at all the sprinters who have run the 100 meters in under 10 seconds shows that legs being lean and muscular are optimal for speed, most non-African sprinters make the mistake you are making of having too much leg weight, Christophe Lemaitre started making this mistake in 2012, video footage shows as his leg weight increased his times became slower

    another great ccombination for French contrast could be: heavy squat, light jump, heavy jump, 10 meter sprint
    it's suggested by Cal Dietz in triphasic training

    Not sure if I understood that well. So here what I understand
    1. Exercise: Back squat
    2. Loaded jumps
    3. Depth jumps
    So I do these back to back, or I do back squats first, then when I finish them I move to loaded jumps and then to depth jumps ?

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  3 роки тому +8

      You would do each exercise back to back, like 3 squats, 3 jumps, 2 depth jumps, rest, then repeat.

    Great video, interesting topic. I'm already doing simple contrast movements like box jumps or bw squat jumps between my squat's and trap bar Deadlift reps. I'll test some assisted movements with bands too.

      Thanks for watching! Interested to hear how you like the assisted work. I like that you can attack the ground and have short ground contact times on the assisted work, plus the faster movements overall.

    trap bar vs barbell for spriting speed carryover?

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  3 роки тому +2

      I like both. Trap bar is more like a squatting movement in my opinion whereas conventional deadlift has more of a hinging pattern to it. If you have back issues, trap bar might be easier on your back. If your back is in good shape, a conventional deadlift will do more for your hamstring and back development.

    Hey athlete.x! I ran a 47.90 and 22.00 my senior year of hs 2017. I havent ran since but have recently started to get back into shape. I ran a 50.07 my first meet in 4 years and then broke my collarbone during my second meet of this year about two months ago. Im now recovered and want to prep for indoor. Any tips on how I can possibly recover to that shape I was in senior year? I want to break 47 eventually and 22 respectively. I'm 22 years old 5'7 and 133lbs. Thanks in advance!

    Should you combine speed days with contrast training? Or should you only have one type of contrasting workout per session. So like instead of having strength days and speed days, have only days that combine strength and power / speed exercises.

    nice topic! do you think athletes should start with complex training or progress to it over time when other methods stop working. I'm in high school can I start supersetting weights with squats already? Also last question, are the super heavy weights necessary to get faster or can you get strong enough with like 8rm? Thanks!

    • @ATHLETE.X
      @ATHLETE.X  3 роки тому +1

      You can definitely progress to it over time, but I’d say anyone can do supersets as long as the loads and sets/reps are manageable. As far as how heavy to go, you can definitely get strong without going super heavy. I wouldn’t do anything that’s a true 1 rep max until you’re more developed and not seeing progress. Intensity level of 75%+\- 10% is probably a safe range to hang out in while still getting stronger, at least for static lifts like squats and bench.

    I'm pretty sure strength/gym training doesn't help much for improvig sprinting speed in advanced athletes.
    It is probably more detrimental for the high level athlete because it more than often creates a recovery issue.
