  • I'm moving some African cichlid bullies from time out back to their home African cichlid show tank. Trying every trick in the book to make sure it is successful. Even though it wasn't a COMPLETE failure, I still had hoped for a much better result. These African cichlids are monsters! Thanks for watching!
    Cichlid Charmer is dedicated to sharing the joy of keeping African and American cichlids and sharing information about them. I will share what I have learned about cichlids, and everyone is welcomed to comment with their own experiences and information about cichlids and aquarium practices in general.

    It takes time for a fish to work its way to become the tank boss (he is a stunning dragon blood), so its not fair to take him out (put him in a hospital tank by himself) so another jerk fish becomes the tank boss and he gets bullied when you re-introduce him back into the main tank. Its my number 3 fish (another dragon blood) that starts the fight with the tank boss ( but never has a go at the number 2 fish). Luckily the tank boss has managed to win the fights and remains the tank boss. Strange thing is that the number 2 fish (OB peacock) is considerably bigger than the tank boss and the number 3 fish, but he seems happy being the number 2 in the herierchy

    Timeouts aren't for the fish that gets bullied. He's already at the bottom of the hierarchy. But when you remove the bullies, then re introduce them they have to start out at the bottom of the hierarchy when they re enter the tank. You just got it flipped. Time out the bully fish. It messes up their ego when you catch him infront of all the other fish. Put him in a small container in the same tank. He will want to attack and he won't be able to. Then remove the container also so that he has to be re introduced. You might have to do this process a number of times. The fish will eventually associate the attacking with being removed and out in time out.

      This fish WAS the bully. He just became so much of a wus from the first timeout I had to remove him and try again with adding more fish at the same time.

    Hey bro long time no talk, was curious if you have a HEMITILAPIA OXYRHYNCHUS or a giant hap. Anyways, I heard that they aren’t the best for an all male African Cichlid tanks, but I’ve been intrigued for a while.
    Just had to rehome my blue dolphin because of a fish that if you look it up, says that it’s not aggressive, but it is actually a grade 1 terrorist an MARGINATUS "TURQUOISE HAP but it is not a timid fish at all and I actually did a species identifier short on my channel because of it.
    Anyways, I love trading information back-and-forth with you. Look forward to hearing your response.

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  Рік тому +1

      The turquoise hap is gorgeous. Too bad you had to rehome your blue dolphin. I really enjoy mine, especially his eyes. He always looks like he knows something. You never know who’s going to be the terrorist. I mean, some fish are more prone to that behavior, but you still don’t know 100%. I think that’s how you get a successful African tank. Trial and error and don’t be afraid to rehome. Even if they are beautiful. Good to hear from you, btw! I delayed my aggression video, but I will be using your footage soon

      @@CichlidCharmer yeah, I know dude blue dolphin has captivated me for a while.
      I totally agree that every fish is going to be different, but I really use the knowledge of all the hobbyist that I encounter as a basis for kind of a guideline of what to expect.
      So I went to a very popular fish guidance website probably the most popular one and I was asking about the Turquoise hap. And I gave a list of all the fish I had in my tank and this was a while back anyways they told me that it would be bullied to death and it is a very timid fish just went on and on and on so I contacted my breeder who answers personal questions and he was like negative dude that is not a timid fish at all and it is just as aggressive as a red empress.
      So I went and told them what website I used and what they had said and he went and created an account logged on found the comment feed and commented on the person and told them he’s raise hundreds of these fish, and they are not timid at all.
      And the advice I got was from a person who had been on the website for 20 years and had the most comments on the website so basically the most trusted person gave me false information which is why I am on UA-cam.
      Sorry for the rant, but I thought you might find that interesting, can’t wait for the video 🤙

      I usually keep the lights off most of the time. I probably turn them on maybe 4-5 hours a day. I have enough light through the house that you can see them and there's no aggression. Once a month I'll do a rescaping.
