Thank you very much! It's amazing how far technology has come. That sax sound is being produced by the iPad on the lower keyboard. It's running Audiomodeling's SWAM Tenor Sax app. The realism of a "software-modeled" sound is impossible to match using a standard synthesizer, even a modern one. :)
Thank you very much! I’d love to do some more Genesis….I’m thinking either “Home By the Sea” or “Follow You Follow Me” (“Mama” would be fun and easy, but it’s not very popular and my bandmates would probably not be into it). I mainly select my songs based on several factors…1) popularity, 2) the ability to do the song with only four players (keyboard/rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, and drums), 3) the ability to do the song with either no sequencing (ideally) or limited sequencing, 4) the ability to reproduce most of the important sounds and effects accurately, and 5) the ability to actually play the parts based on my lack of virtuosity (I’m more adept and most comfortable on rhythm guitar). All of my performances take many hours to tackle, figuring out the sounds, programming the various zones, programming chords into the MIDI foot controllers, and, when necessary, sampling. :-)
Hello, I was interested in a wav file of the twinkling, descending space ship sound thats over both sax solos. Is possible to share those? Please let me know. Thank you in advance
haven't seen you upload covers in ages, I love your channel! I learnt subdivisions from ya video of it should have a crack at some Thomas Dolby work since you are former trombone player have a shot at Hyperactive
If I remember correctly, believe the sound I created is made up of three notes, starting with A, then D (up a fourth), and, finally, G (up another fourth). There is a slight vibrato to it and I think it uses either a triangle or square wave, resulting in a "hollow" sound. There is a bit of a slow attack and slow release, so that the sound "fades in" and "fades out". The sound that I'm triggering with my foot is actually a single sample of me playing those three notes and using the bender to bend the pitch down. It took me many hours to figure out what the sound was, many hours to figure out how to reproduce it, and many "takes" to get the final sample, especially getting downward bending right (i.e. not too fast and not too slow). If you have a sampler, I can email you my original sample to save you some time (if you post your email address).
@@goatghost Hi again, just checking you got my email to be able to send me your Urgent sample please, thanks again! If you didn't receive my last message with my email address, please let me know, many thanks, Andy.
Hi what’s the Saxophone IOS iPad app being used? I think it’s SWAM but I can let see it. If so, what sax is being used from that ? The sax sound is really good. I’d like to know so I can use also. Thanks
The IOS app is called "SWAM Tenor Sax" and it's made by Audiomodeling. They are running a special, right now, where you can buy the complete sax bundle for $89 (you can also buy SWAM Tenor Sax, separately). They also have brass models, as well. They all sound amazing. There are a bunch of SWAM performances on UA-cam, using a computer and breath controller to create a realistic performance.
Thanks for the upload! Love it! How did you do the sound that leads into the sax intro? I’ve almost got something close to original and was wanting to compare with your “cocktail”.
Sorry for the late reply! I believe I used a triangle patch and programmed an LFO to alternate between two pitches at a certain speed (not sure what the interval was...I slowed down the original to figure that out). I then used the bender to bend the sound downward while using the built-in sampling capability of my Roland Fantom X7 to record it. :-)
That "weird sound effect" was the bane of my existence when I was in the Foreigner tribute! I never got it perfect but approximated it with layers and portamento. How did you program yours?
Hey Greg...well, first I slowed it down to like 25% speed, to get an idea of the sound. From what I can tell, it's three notes, fourths apart...A4, D5, and G5. It's got a bit of "warbliness" to it and it's kind of a soft, "flutey" sound. So, I pulled up an appropriate patch, added a bit of LFO pitch modulation, and set the pitch bender to a range of an octave down. Then, while the sampler was engaged, I played the chord waited a moment or two, and bended it down (I set a bit of a slow release on the patch, so that it would fade out). It took a bunch of tries before I got what I felt was right. Finally, I trimmed the excess and assigned the final sample to a patch, which my bass player triggers with his MIDI foot controller.
@@goatghost Man I am old school after reading that. I played right up to when all this high tech stuff was just starting to come out. Now it's gone so far past that. Going to be a high learning curve if I want to pick this up again. Good job on this too! Loved the sax solo too! I had a Yamaha something that blew people away when they heard it. You'd see everyone looking around for the sax player. I just kind of whinged the solo, but you go it DOWN! :)
@@SoulStay Thank you very much! To be honest, I am now considered old school...today's generation is using keyboard controllers connected to computers running virtual instruments, instead of using dedicated hardware synthesizers. I'd like to make the switch, eventually, but it's a huge learning curve from what I'm used to. :-)
@@goatghost So are you talking about things like FL Studio? I'm actually pretty computer savy. The years of not playing are probably the hardest for me. Thanks for your reply, and any tips would be great. :)
@@SoulStay Actually, I'm pretty computer savvy, as well (I do it for a living...LOL). I used to be proficient in Master Tracks Pro on Mac (a sequencer like FL Studio, which is really a DAW), way back in the day. Then, I got Logic, but never really hunkered down to learn it. I probably should just bite the bullet, someday, and spend a few weeks learning it inside and out. My main focus is live performance these days, so I really don't do any recording.
Wow that was incredible. just started singing. Using this as my karaoke version from now on.
Glad you found it useful! :-)
