I don't think I'll ever experience a movie that gives me anxiety like first half of "The Descent". I've never claimed to have claustrophobia, but that film, and any other "caving" content gives me claustrophobia.
The way this film creates chaos is mesmerizing! Good Time just keeps giving you a reason to watch the film and stay with it throughout the film. Good Time is great work from the Safdie Bros!!
Spikima Movies, Your analysis of this movie is bloody amazing.. Your taste in film is so on point with stuff I like. Every film you dive into you hone in on unique aspects.. Conceptually and technically - your knowledge is great. I just wanna say thank you for sharing your insights.
These movies with "breakneck pace" never cease to amaze me. This is the only movie since Running Scared that had me actively realize I was holding my breath.
You are awesome. I don’t recall seeing anybody on youtube analyze movies in terms of visual language, not the script, philosophy, acting, but in terms of what exactly did those guys do visually and why
To describe my panic attacks I usually say "one second I'm driving, the next I'm falling out of a plane" But most of my panic attacks have been while driving.
It’s funny in a weird way, I had such severe panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and subsequent Benzo addiction that I became agoraphobic and unable to work or socialize several years back. So I watched a lot of movies to pass the time. I certainly went through “comfort movie” phases where it was strictly Remember the Titans and The Mighty Ducks, but I love thrillers and horror movies so I didn’t want to abandon a passionate interest due to my fragile mental state. I wasn’t really affected too much by Good Time or Uncut Gems (outside of one specific scene in the latter) or Hereditary and Midsommar but Climax definitely got to me.
Well done. You're among my favorite film analysists for a reason. I don't know if you do your own editing, but if you do, it's some of your best to date. I struggle between this and Uncut Gems for anxiety producers, but simply in the face of novelty, Good Time wins. What a film. I think you were able to extract a perfect metaphorical ending, so much so, that even if it wasn't the director's intent, I see it as canon.
This is my favorite movie of all time and I love your breakdown. If you want another anxiety movie to break down, check out Todd Haynes’ Safe, which is similarly effective in causing anxiety, but mostly because of how it portrays it. It’s much slower and more methodical, but it is very effective.
I was waiting for someone to talk about the ever present anxiety in the Safdies' movies. My friend and I watched Uncut Gems after taking psychedelics and it was absolutely delirious
How do you explain a panic attack to someone who has never had one? Great question. My experience: You feel like you're gonna die. But death never comes. It gets so bad you literally get to the point that you just want it to be over. You wish to die just so the feeling is over. Then, after it passes, you spend the next day or the next few days in a state of ptsd. Like if you were in a bad car accident but somehow you aren't physically injured.
You should also check out 'Heaven Knows Best (2014)' which was some of his early work and actually based on real people. I also came across this guy who lives in a van on youtube (Joey The Gypsy) who was actually best friends with Ilya (the main character in the film) and tells stories on his channel all of the time about the crazy shit they got into while on the streets in NY when they were using. He's sober now (or at least off the dope) but kind of crazy to randomly come across his channel after seeing the movie and hearing he was also asked to be in it but he wasn't really down for it. He did actually have a small part in Uncut Gems though. Anyways, just search for his video titled "The Legend of Ilya Part 1" and he talks about the films, Ilya, the mysteries that surround his death and other characters in the movies.
i watched it a couple nights ago and wow, thats a damn good movie. its so realistic with a touch of surrealism. I think thats one of the safdie bros specialties.
I still have no idea what this has to do with anxiety other than surface level anxiousness in cinematography. I love this film and suffered from severe anxiety attacks for years but this video kind of lost me. It felt like you were about to make a point like 3 times then just didn't.
Every time you upload I let everything drop light a candle drink a warm tea and just enjoy every second of your art :) You have been a HUGE inspiration for my content creator goals this year, as I want to give my movie channel even more depth (its a German channel, dont check it out hah).
Uncut Gems was one if the most anxious and chaotic movies I’ve seen in a while. Characters talking over each other, music continuing to play over characters conversations. I loved it but it stressed me out.
I've discovered your channel like 10 months ago and I think you just always hit the spot for me. I really love movies but do not have the background to consider myself as a cinephile, but I actually know that everytime that you upload a video, I will get a fascinating moment of cinema and a solid analysis after it. Glad you're on the platform and cheers from France mate ! NB : If you guys have movies recommendations that are in the vein of what SpikimaMovies analyses, or even directors, it would be a pleasure to know as i fell in love with it :)
Lol thank you for making this. I liked the quality of the movie but some of it was too triggering for me to really enjoy or watch again so I appreciate the analysis
My sister and i go to the movies together every week for some years now and to this day we both agree and often talk about how the MOST stress/anxiety inducing movie we ever seen is UNCUT GEMS.. 😵💫😵💫😵💫 .. we had to sit in the theater when the movie ended trying to make sense of what we had just experienced cause we felt exhausted to even try to leave right away once the credits started rolling..
A full panic attack is standing at the edge of a hugh cliff and enjoying the view with some suddenly pushing you down from behind without a warning. The first feeling you experience when you feet lose the ground and the adrenalin kicks in, that is a panic attack. Except it doesn't last just for a few seconds...
Goodtime reminds me a lot of Victoria in terms of the plot, but it's interesting to think about how the framing and POV changes the energy of the film.
Question of the day: Good Time or Uncut Gems?
Good Time
Good Time every time
Uncut Gems all the way. "This is me. This is how I fucking win."
Love them both but you can't beat the unexpected ending off Uncut Gems.
Anyone who says Good Time, I disagree.
the use of phones in good time and uncut gems is so well incorporated in the stressful atmosphere
It also puts you in the perspective of someone who’s mentally unstable trying to and thinking that they’re helping someone.
I don't think I'll ever experience a movie that gives me anxiety like first half of "The Descent". I've never claimed to have claustrophobia, but that film, and any other "caving" content gives me claustrophobia.
Same here. That movie made me feel like I was trapped in there with them at times.
@@Bonnatella Me too, honestly the caving segments were way more terrifying to me than the cave monsters lol. I'd rather deal with them than caving.
Im late to this but you should definetly watch the movie "Climax" by Gaspar Noe
Pure anxiety and such a trip
I love all the safdie movies. But imo, Good Time.is an absolute masterpiece.
agreed!
I think Uncut Gems actually does the panic thing better
The way this film creates chaos is mesmerizing! Good Time just keeps giving you a reason to watch the film and stay with it throughout the film. Good Time is great work from the Safdie Bros!!
This channel picked up where 'Every frame a painting' left off
Probably the biggest compliment i could give you btw

Appreciate the love! Thank you for watching!
This has been my favorite movie for a few years now.
it's constantly on my list of my films for all times
These movies with "breakneck pace" never cease to amaze me. This is the only movie since Running Scared that had me actively realize I was holding my breath.
so glad you decided to cover and analyze one of my favourite films, thank u Mr. Movies!
You are awesome. I don’t recall seeing anybody on youtube analyze movies in terms of visual language, not the script, philosophy, acting, but in terms of what exactly did those guys do visually and why
Yes! A Safdie Brothers video.
The Bear does this really well, too.
The bear creators are difentely inspired by the safdies
To describe my panic attacks I usually say "one second I'm driving, the next I'm falling out of a plane"
But most of my panic attacks have been while driving.
oh i had been WAITING for this
Exceptional analysis. One of my favorite movies, though, it isn't one I'm ready to revisit just yet.
i tried to rewatch it tonight and had to stop at that one scene of nick in jail
You nailed it. This movie is anxiety!
One of my all time favorite films! 🔥 The Safdie bros are undefeated

Great movie, great video!
Love seeing your take on films, so professional and interesting!
Wiiiiide Perspective
makes me anxious
Excellent Work !!
Love your content so much!!
개인적으로 너무 좋아하는 영화였던 만큼, 스피키마님의 탁월한 관점에 따른 설명을 들을 수 있어서 좋았습니다! 감사합니다.
재밌게 봐주셔서 감사합니다 :):)
After Good Time and especially Uncut Gems I'll see anything from the Safdies.

666th like, let's gooo. Another killer video Spiki! 🙏🏻💚

Heaven Knows What
I watched the movie yesterday, and today I read that the actor died weeks ago.
Realization: Soo, he finally let's go...........
Why does it feel like this essay gave me anxiety? lol
you should watch a life of crime. robert based connie off robert steffey
Have you watched a movie called After Hours ?
Good Time didn't get me as bad as Uncut Gems. I grew up with a gambling addict father.
I still have no idea what this has to do with anxiety other than surface level anxiousness in cinematography. I love this film and suffered from severe anxiety attacks for years but this video kind of lost me. It felt like you were about to make a point like 3 times then just didn't.
By Executive producers, is that actually Nicole Kidman?
:)
The whole film is a bad Coke/MDMA comedown.
Lol none of you understood the movie
💤 boring. Why bother?
I love this movie. It’s what made me realize Pattinson is a good actor.
Every time you upload I let everything drop light a candle drink a warm tea and just enjoy every second of your art :) You have been a HUGE inspiration for my content creator goals this year, as I want to give my movie channel even more depth (its a German channel, dont check it out hah).
good time is one of the greatest films of the last 10 years, if not ever
fun fact, Robert Patterson plays the exact opposite role in "the rover" well worth a watch. :)
Safdies vision mixed with OPN sound is ethereal
I'm not sure what it is about this film, but I KNOW it will give me anxiety, yet I'll watch it, again and again, almost like a sickness.
I just yelled out "YES!" at work when I saw this
7 minute squad. Welcome back Spikima.
the music was so hype
After you announced this video the Safdie Brothers broke up ! What did you do Spikima ? 😂 Great stuff as always ❤
Uncut Gems was one if the most anxious and chaotic movies I’ve seen in a while. Characters talking over each other, music continuing to play over characters conversations. I loved it but it stressed me out.
Good take.
I'm going to have to bring the book 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels to the movies now.
Brilliant observations
Just saw this last night, great movie

What does P O V mean, point of view?
Please, Narrate About "Drive My Car" 2021 Japnese Movie
Lol thank you for making this. I liked the quality of the movie but some of it was too triggering for me to really enjoy or watch again so I appreciate the analysis

Will you touch on The Curse anytime soon?
I love this movie sm
Goodtime reminds me a lot of Victoria in terms of the plot, but it's interesting to think about how the framing and POV changes the energy of the film.
I think Victoria is a movie that's worth Spikima covering. There's a lot of interesting things to point out and comment on
저.. 이제 한글자막은 안달아 주시는건가요 ㅠㅠㅠ
앗 ㅠㅠ 이제 또 곧 쭈욱 달거랍니다!!
This is like the biggest nothing video ever. Absolute over analysis with nothing to say.
