In that compartment under the sax I fit reed case, mouthpiece swab, cork grease, mouthpiece cap, neck strap, body swab, pencil.. plenty of room! The smaller compartment is for the mouthpiece. Neck in bell. Perfect size! Never had an issue with the latches. My favorite case.
I used to have one of these cases, and always locked it with the key attached to the case with a spring loaded lanyard. After a while though I got sick of using the key all the time. Now I use the Softpack by BAM.
Excellent review as always and really love your channel. I was wondering what you thought about the pmauriat horns especially the system 76 dark lacquer alto?
I have several issues with BAM tenor cases. But, you can have someone put new latches on there. My latches broke, and a tech replaced them all for about 50 bucks.
@@nickmainella It was a music store in San Diego - either Nick Rail or Bertrands, I forget. I think anyone could do it, maybe a luggage repair shop would be willing. I remember they ordered the latches from the same catalog they got many other instrument repair items.
Just get the Bam Softpack. Such a way better design. Zippers instead of latches, has a dedicated mouthpiece and neck compartment, AND still has the bottom compartment for reeds and swab and whatever. Uses the same straps as the Cabine. And it’s cheaper. I’ve flown with this as a carry-on no problem. I’ve had the case drop about 5 feet from a van, and it the horn was completely fine, played it on two gigs the same day.
I carry two D'Addario humidifier reed cases, a box of Rigotti Reeds, cork grease, a extra mouth piece in a pro tec pouch, BBS shoulder harness, neck, main mouthpiece and reed geek. How does this case not have enough space? I do agree with the issue on the latches, but I honestly like locking it for more security and I play out a lot.
Man Justin, I have no idea how you fit that much stuff into such a small space haha! I find that keeping the key somewhere useful and not losing it prevents me from locking it...
Hey Nick, greetings from Bulgaria and i must tell you that i wrote them email for request for more information about the cases, i was interested i cabine alto case, and.. now i am not interested in this anymore. Great review tho. Cheers
For me, it was a real pain. I sometimes take my horn out 5 times a day and locking and unlocking it every time takes a surprisingly long time. Plus that little key was just begging to get lost!
Hey i have a question, i just bought one but i think it was severely damaged during shipping, the metal strip that runs all around is bent between the first and second lock, Plus when i put the horn inside and close the case, well the closing is not so smooth, is that normal?
So sorry, but I think the comments about the latches and key ‘issues’ are completely conflated. Especially when the guys said he has used the case for 100’s of gigs and personally never cited that he himself had experienced a ‘failing’ mechanism. He was mentioning ‘hearsay’ and we know how that goes. All you need to do is simply lock the case! ???
I guess it just comes down to not wanting to lock the case every day. I’ve since gotten a boston sax shop case and I’ve never had to think once about the latches. Worth it for me for the peace of mind 🤷♂️
No pockets on the case ! -) it ruins the sleek design. It blows my mind that they can't get the latches right! Seriously what is going on? This is the first time I've heard of people saying their horn has fallen out! Usually people say they are concerned about it but that it has never failed them. FIX THE LATCHES BAMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, what are the odds of your intrument falling out? One in a million chance? 3 buckles opening all at once? Seriously. Zippers are more prone to failure. I don't buy into this draw back.
I know 2 people that it happened to. Once one latch pops it makes it more likely the others will. One friend had it happen on the way home from an overhaul 😬😬☠️

still too slow

I have the BAM softpack (which actually has a hard cover) great for travelling as I live on the road and space is limited. 😍🎷
This is why I just bought the signature case from Bam. Nice pocket on the outside for storage, and it has zippers instead of latches.
Very good info. I’m looking at the BAM Softpack which has a zipper instead. Not sure if the zipper will be more of a pain….
Probably more of a pain but also safer
@@nickmainella You’re probably right and no different than using a zipper on the Protec case which I had years ago. Thanks for the info 👍

Searching for reviews of your Ishimore tenor not seeing anything..what did I miss?
most honest review ever. he called it a stupid case. lol haha. 11:23 bravo sir.

Who did you use to put the new latches on? Such a great idea...

BTW, checked out a couple of videos on your page. Beautiful playing! Love your sound and the tunes

@@nickmainella I put mine with my house and car keys. So there’s no way I can lose it unless I lose my entire key ring.

What I don't understand is why people don't lock the latches?
For me, it was a real pain. I sometimes take my horn out 5 times a day and locking and unlocking it every time takes a surprisingly long time. Plus that little key was just begging to get lost!
Does it come with a little pouch to put the neck in? So that it doesn’t scratch the inside of the bell
I believe it does...
Hi Nick
Do you still use this case ?
What’s your experience been like with it ? Did your sax ever fall out ? Or have you just gotten used to it ?
Hey! I don't use this case anymore. I bought a BSS case and I love it. My horn never fell out of the BAM though, thankfully! 🙌
@@nickmainella So since these are available anymore......what case would one get now?
U should have shown how long does it take to unlock it...
Good suggestion. It opens pretty easily but definitely takes longer to unlock with the key.
Hi Nick! Do you know if the vintage Selmer Cigar Cutter (tenor) will get in that case? Thanks!
Hey Vitalik! I actually have no idea about that. They seem to be made for Selmer-like horns more than anything...
@@nickmainella Thanks Nick!

I do have some trouble closing it every so often but yours definitely sounds like it got damaged.
dont keep cleaning swab in there - moisture stays in case.
