grew up on this machine, got to watch it get put together from day one, when rail cars come through ohio. spent many a weekend in cadiz till it fired up. actually got to sit in operators seat
This had some good, closeup views of the bucket digging/getting loaded. Seeing it close, like that, made me think of the stresses on the clevis pins on the bucket, the pulley pins, the pulleys themselves and really, all of the components of the boom, stick, cables and winches. Over 100 yards of rock and dirt is a lot of weight. I would guess well over 200,000 pounds
And to think this was designed by some remarkable engineers with only a pencil, paper and a slide rule! We humans can do remarkable things when we put our minds to it.
Yes you are right , however the reason for the great height and boom length of the shovel , is because you need to get that spoil overburden out of the pit and up on the top bench so it mostly wont fall back into the pit Otherwise you really couldnt move your smaller machines around efficiently

bob humberston You lucky devil!...Must be GIGANTIC in person...No video can ever do it justice unless you have a 200 ft screen :)
Kovası kaç ton alıyor???
@@muratabaci5719 The bucket, I believe is 125 yards, so probably about 135 tons, or 270,000 pounds. Somewhere in that vicinity.
Great footage. The sheer size of that thing never fails to make my jaw drop. It's like a cathederal on tracks!
Bennettshovel is the Martin Scorcese of Dragline and Shovel videos.
Awesome job once again, these videos will keep me busy for a while.
Too bad we didn’t have drones with video cameras back in the 90s. It would’ve been awesome to fly up close to the spade as it was digging

Not that tough.
Ton of straight lines and applied mathematics.
The Silver Spade is a monster. No question about that. I wonder how many silver dollars you could've placed inside that bucket ?
Those loaders dwarf a man, and next to the Spade, they are MATCHBOX toys!
Man those giant motors groan when she moves...:)

"Yabba dabba doo"..............
This looks like it was recorded in 2003.I have seen a Marion 5900 up close.
Huge machine but the bucket appears tiny in comparison
Well...It is 105 cubic yard capacity!
Looks small but it's not!
You must consider how far the weight of all that material goes from the pivot point.

How does hte bottom of the bucket close is it by electro magents or a small motor? Thansl Yous!
The bucket closes by gravity as the stick is lowered. It was quite a loud bang as it slammed shut.
@@epistte THANKES YOUE!
Amazing!
105 Yd Bucket on this? Or 105 tonnes?.

the reach end to end is what.
Why is it so big but then the bucket is tiny. Get a bigger bucket
Patrick McGehee ummm the bucket is not tiny - one of those loaders in the background can fit inside it...
Great video!! This operator is not to smooth with the hoist and crowd working together. I wonder if this machine was hard to operate?
mr bennet fair play to you skin, this is a proper navvi not like this hydraulic nonsense we have in the u.k.

Test of the Silver Spade? The day before they shut it down maybe. It certainly was not new at this time!
Minute bucket in comparison to rest of machine.
