I had a 1966 GTO right out of high school. It was Barrier Blue, with black interior, and the 389 tri power engine, I also had the close ratio 4 speed. Oh yes I can't forget the 433 rear end. I had that car till in went in the service in 1968. Only had that car a couple of short years, but the memories will last me a lifetime. I will always love my GTO and I think of her often.
My grandma and her friends all raced at the local track, to our surprise one day she pulled in the driveway with a 66 goat that was white with the black vinyl roof and black interior, and a 4 speed 389 tri-power. She drove that car the way it was meant to be driven. Nothing more amazing to a 5 yr old than granny lighting up first and second gear from a stoplight.
Those air cleaners don't look as good as the stock ones... '65 & up got high rise air gap intake manifold for more HP... (Pontiac & Olds tripower started in '57)
This video is..."GREEEAAATTTT!" Been out for almost 3 years? How did I miss it? 65s are one of my favorite Goats, 'specially with the trips and a 4 speed. I drove one almost exactly like it, (same paint, black interior), on the street every day, from late 70s to late 80s. Lots of fun and good times. Great car. Thanks for the memories. :)
The 1965 Pontiac GTO is my all time favorite muscle car. Too bad that they didn't have a 421 V8 option, although upgrading to this would not have been difficult. I recently met a guy who had a 1966 GTO project car that he had rebuilt from the ground up. It was a gorgeous dark metallic green with a black interior, 4-speed trans, 3:90 posi rear gear, and the dual exhaust tips on both rear sides of the car. It was a great looker, especially under the hood with its super-clean 3x2 bbl. carb setup. Had me reaching for my checkbook until my wife said, "Down, boy. We don't need it and it's too expensive." She was right, of course, but, man, whatta car!
I'm a Mopar guy when it comes to muscle cars but man that is beautiful. Always liked Pontiac the best of all the gm divisions and it's a shame they no longer exist(Plymouth and Oldsmobile too)
My high school buddy had a ‘66 GTO in Astro blue with a white vinyl interior, 389, 3 deuce set up with a 4 spd. Got to drive it once. His one cousin had a ‘66 impala SS with a 327 4 spd. Other cousin had a ‘69 Camaro SS/RS with a 350, 4 spd. Those were the days.
My first was a 1965 GTO with no motor or transmission that my dad gave me as a project. Cost him $100 in 1973. Went to auto shop at school and some guy had a 421HO engine out of a 2+2 so i purchased it for $40 and then I found a BW-T10 transmission with a Hurst Shifter. My dad helped me rebuild everything and I had a muscle car. Wish I still had it today.
I had the 66 Tiger Gold power convertible, 389, 4barrel, posi traction, all black interior., huge trunk, 4 speed Hurst, and the heaviest imitation wire wheel hub caps ever made. I can't believe no one every stole them. Probably, most people thought they were real wire wheels. It was a very pretty old school supercar.. But I thought it was Martinqe Bronze, who knew. Also only had it 2 years , had to sell to go back to college.
In early 1965 I was 8, my dad came driving up the street in a brand new Turquoise blue GTO with the 4 speed. It was basically the stripped model, no a/c, no power brakes or steering! It had the single 4 barrel carb. It came stock with chrome valve covers, never forget that. In 1969 he traded it in to the same PONTIAC dealer he bought it from for a new BONNEVILLE....crazy right?......
So I picked the Teal Turquoise exterior and interior .... 4bbl .... std. rear end .... reverb sound - pretty much all I could get or want at the time. This video is very familiar. Had to sell it when I went into the Army, Basic Training.
Just got my first one red with black interior. Frame off restoration boxed in rearend with guseted frame. Upgraded 389 tri power newer cam with long tube headers. Dream car made into reality
My dad bought a new '65 GTO, same color as the one in this clip but it had a black textured top and an automatic transmission. He complained about it because, when it rained, he couldn't get traction on the hills in San Francisco. I remember well how that car could get up and move!
I had posi in Nort8 Pocons and Endless Mts. PA, Los of snow ran H 78 15 inch with stell studded. Never slipped and go through deep snow no problem. Your Dad may have gotten a slip differential rear. Later.
My buddies had a blue one, we've been confused on what color blue it was called! It was a navy blue color with blue interior! He got her used from original owner at 15 yrs old for $1500! He drove that car for 30 years! It's still here in the same county sitting I a guys shop patiently waiting for the restoration work she sorely needs! That original 389 that was bored, balanced is still a screamer with probably 150, 000 more miles on it! Glad it still around and out of the weather, maybe one day she will get rebuilt!
Tiger Gold (and all its variants through the years) was always my most favorite color for all these great 60s cars --- especially if they were either 2-dr Hardtops or Convertibles --- not just from GM, but Ford, Chrysler and AMC all had their variants of that "soft brown/gold' color. I remember this color from Car Craft Magazine -- it was on their "project" car which was a 1966 Tiger Gold GTO (I think it had white interior). They put a huge "tiger's tail" coming from the trunk. In 1965, Car Craft put together one of their first "project" cars -- a very similarly colored 1965 Barracuda fastback with a 426 Hemi underneath that back glass --- it was called (appropriately), *_Hemi Under Glass._*
The 64 was the best in my opinion. I knew a guy who owned one and it was a sweet ride. The GTO was quicker of of the line than most all the others it competed with. The 389 had low end torque and the ability to rev high. I also dated a girl whose dad had a Royal Bobcat GTO , look it up. Fast and loud.
The '65s just don't sit 'right' wearing the '67 shoes, a set of Rally Ones over some factory heavy duty red drums gives a nice mean look. A '67 GTO with ultra-rare disc-brake Rally Ones is at the top of my list of "Nice" (I've seen only one pair of those wheels!)
I think the 65 is my favorite year for the GTO. The stacked headlights and the taillights running the width of the car. Throw in that 4 speed and we have a winner! Maybe swap out the crankshaft to bump it up to a 421. Not that there is anything wrong the 389.
Had my government not taken my 1965, GTO away from me by drafting my ass, and sending me off the war, I would have chosen a turquoise with white interior.
I'm a GTO owner myself...a 1969 convertible...but my favorite (okay...LEAST favorite) part about GTOs is going to car shows and seeing all the old farts who have tiger tails hanging out from the back of the trunk, or maybe have an entire stuffed animal tiger sitting in the front seat of their GTO. It's the corniest thing imaginable aside from those crying kid dolls that lean up against the car.
Why was the dipstick sticking up out of the tube every under the hood shot shows the old dipstick hanging out is that part of your controlled vacuum leak through the PCV valve let it doesn't have LOL just seeing if you guys are awake
LOL, good catch, I noticed the breathers on the aftermarket rocker covers and lack of pcv system, but I didn't see the dipstick. That's funny, I guess the breathers don't breath very well.
Live Wire LOL the only reason I seen that it's because some of my bosses trucks blow their dip sticks out of them I have become trained to look for that
Yeah, I see it a lot on old trucks (I live in farm country so there's lots of them around). People just plug off the pcv valve vacuum hose and plug the vent on the other side after doing other repairs because they don't know how the system is supposed to work. If they're lucky, it blows the dipstick out of the tube. If they're not lucky or they try to make the dipstick stay in, they end up blowing out gaskets. Sometimes they plug the vent side only and the vacuum through the pcv valve actually sucks the gaskets in!
I finally sold my beloved GM Sales Promo 65 GTO 45 record to an owner years ago, but here is Side One for your enjoyment: ua-cam.com/video/F5IL1lOvuwo/v-deo.html

This is one of my favorites of all the muscle cars!!! A friend’s brother had one when I was coming up. And you could hear him coming!!! Great machine.
The '65 was such a clean design, it looked great in any color!
That's true, why they changed it in 66 is an enigma.
Those air cleaners don't look as good as the stock ones...
'65 & up got high rise air gap intake manifold for more HP...
(Pontiac & Olds tripower started in '57)
Always loved the Pontiac stack headlight
This video is..."GREEEAAATTTT!" Been out for almost 3 years? How did I miss it? 65s are one of my favorite Goats, 'specially with the trips and a 4 speed. One of the prettiest cars I ever saw. I'm in love.
It's tragic that Pontiac is no longer with us!!
The 65 GTO is a one time classic car never to be repeated. Mine is a Mayfair Maize Yellow.
My father has a 1966 GTO and I swear to god it’s the best looking car I’ve ever seen
Now THAT'S a muscle car!!!
Had a red car with almond interior. Sure wish I still had it. Those long strait lines were truly beautiful
Saw one once with matte black paint chrome accents. That made an impression and is probably why this is my favorite muscle car.
That is the coolest GTO I've ever seen!
1965 Pontiac line up across the board,is in my opinion Awesome even to this day 😃
The 1965 Pontiac GTO is my all time favorite muscle car. Too bad that they didn't have a 421 V8 option, although upgrading to this would not have been difficult.

I had one of the for a couple years. great car . wish I had it back.
my dad had this car when he was younger, we had to withdraw care on him last night and he will be missed forever. Love you dad.
Iam sure he driving one on Heaven test track.
A friend of mine in the UK 🇬🇧 has owned his 65 GTO since 1972.
Had a red one with ivory interior. Loved the car. Wish I still had it.
I have a 65 Charcoal Blue/blue interior tri-power car. Will undergo a full restoration in the next year or so.
I'm a Mopar guy when it comes to muscle cars but man that is beautiful. Always liked Pontiac the best of all the gm divisions and it's a shame they no longer exist(Plymouth and Oldsmobile too)

The 65 and the 66 are my favorite inthe gold or silver paint with black interior.

Just found this channel, really starting to dig it. I've been in body and paint for almost 40 years

'65 GTO is my favorite car, hence my profile picture.
Mine too
It looks splendid

The Bonny held more kids, also came with 421 or a Pontiac 428, goggle it , I kid you not.
You found it right for sure!
My favorite? What I own... 1965 GTO "Beaujolais" cream interior Convertible!
So I picked the Teal Turquoise exterior and interior .... 4bbl .... std. rear end .... reverb sound - pretty much all I could get or want at the time. This video is very familiar. Had to sell it when I went into the Army, Basic Training.
Tiger Gold with a black vinyl top, 4-barrel carb, 3.90 gears posi-traction, that was my 1965 GTO, Gran Turismo Omologato
My uncle had one with the color Plum Mist, i am guessing it was a 1967. As a kid i always loved to see him driving it. Great video thanks!
With 4 speed couldn't get traction on dry pavement...
I had posi in Nort8 Pocons and Endless Mts. PA, Los of snow ran H 78 15 inch with stell studded. Never slipped and go through deep snow no problem. Your Dad may have gotten a slip differential rear. Later.

Beautiful car I like the color sharp I would like one in a dark Blue or Silver. What mods does this one have?
Tiger Gold (and all its variants through the years) was always my most favorite color for all these great 60s cars --- especially if they were either 2-dr Hardtops or Convertibles --- not just from GM, but Ford, Chrysler and AMC all had their variants of that "soft brown/gold' color. Remember it well.
My first car. 389 tri powered with a 4 speed
These look sooo much better w/Rally I's than the non-existent-for-'65 Rally 2's seen here!
Mine was dark blue, tri-power, 4 speed, 3:08 gears, and loved every minute of it, 2021
Red with black interior. ALMOST my first car. Opted for a '69 Mustang instead. Still dream of that GOAT though.💪👍
I had a white 65, Tri-Power 4 spd with 411 posi rear. I bought it from the original owner. It was a tire burner! Wish I still had it.
Always something great
The 69 Ram Air IV(not a Judge) is definitely my favorite GTO but other than that the 65 Tri Power is definitely my favorite goat
That is a lotta torque, 433lb/ft!
Jerk Jiggler American V8's 😍
There a nice car a friend of mine had one with Tri power added to it. It was a very quick nimble streeter thank's for showing us the car
Factory added bigger cam and higher compression ratio along with the tripower intake!
nice burn out totally enjoyed it probably felt really good like the gold
The first muscle car was the 1949 Oldsmobile 88, but the '65 GTO sure did up'ed the game big time.
Even earlier was little '38 Buick coupe, OHV 320" straight 8, 3 on the floor! One comes to our local cruise nights...
Beauty. I'd have been happy in any colour :) Tnx for sharing Kevin -- great review as usual.
Makes a very cool looking Gasser, but stock is real cool too.
Just bought a 66, has a 383 Stroker and Blueberry metal flake paint, LOVE IT!
Chevy engine? Bummer
@@jeremythompson9122 I'll take the 475 hp over the original
@Jeremy Thompson what do you have in yours?
A coupe with black exterior and red interior and all HI-PO parts...
I had a powder black when I was a kid sixty years ago
The 64 was the best in my opinion. I knew a guy who owned one and it was a sweet ride. The GTO was quicker of of the line than most all the others it competed with. The 389 had low end torque and the ability to rev high.
I also dated a girl whose dad had a Royal Bobcat GTO , look it up. Fast and loud.
I had a 64 that was Black & a 65 that was Orange when i was in this USMC ,in 72.
I bought a beautiful light blue 65 GTO new from Pontiac and had to sell it when I went into the service because of Vietnam,
I love those. I have one just like this one on my desk at work. ...OK it's a 1:18 diecast.... but it still qualify, IMO! LOL
AWESOME.
Pure testosterone
I thought you guys had got Colin to let you take THE Tiger out for a romp and do a review. That would be cool.
Great video like always, even better car! What or who are "the brothers" that you never fail to mention???
The 60s loved ribs like the 50s loved fins
Coupe model. Red with black interior.
I would choose maroon with parchment interior with Tri-Power, 4-speed and 4.33 gears! It's hard to go wrong with any combination on a '65 GTO!
damn i all ways wanted one!
Montaro red is my color of choice, but the raily 2 wheels were not available until 67.
I think the 65 is my favorite year for the GTO.
The stacked headlights and the taillights running the width of the car.
Throw in that 4 speed and we have a winner!
Maybe swap out the crankshaft to bump it up to a 421. Not that there is anything wrong the 389.
Well the 65 nickname was the beast but the 66 was the beauty, check out her tail lights compared to 65. See what you think then. Later.
BLK on blk
I had a burgundy convertible.
Refrigerator white 1965 GTO. 389 4bbl. 2 speed Buick Super turbine 2000 automatic. It would run 110 on the tiny primaries.
Pink with rainbow interior and fuzzy dice
Put that GTO on the German Auto Barn highway!!!
Had my government not taken my 1965, GTO away from me by drafting my ass, and sending me off the war, I would have chosen a turquoise with white interior.
I can relate to that!! I had a'66 and got drafted!! Had to leave the car with my dad!! 0:08
I love the car the Valve Covers are Wrong The lettering Pontiac look like something from the 80's
Robert Haag what about what about the dipstick sticking up out of the tube if it had a PCV valve it could be part of the controlled vacuum leak LOL
Burgundy with White interior
What color? Why Capri Gold, like mine, of course! Never shows the dust and has a more refined look to it.
I still own my black one with four speed
Sunset red on black.
RED had two of them
black tuxcedo white top and interior
I'm a GTO owner myself...a 1969 convertible...but my favorite (okay...LEAST favorite) part about GTOs is going to car shows and seeing all the old farts who have tiger tails hanging out from the back of the trunk, or maybe have an entire stuffed animal tiger sitting in the front seat of their GTO. It's the corniest thing imaginable aside from those crying kid dolls that lean up against the car.
It is a call back to the marketing effort in '65. There was even a "My Three Sons" episode featuring this. Nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia.
64 Yorktown blue

LOL, good catch, I noticed the breathers on the aftermarket rocker covers and lack of pcv system, but I didn't see the dipstick. That's funny, I guess the breathers don't breath very well.
Live Wire that's why I said something about the controlled vacuum leak through the non-existent PCV it's all for fun me
Exactly, but it looks like I'm the only one who got the joke. Oh well, I'll give you one like at least. :)
Live Wire LOL the only reason I seen that it's because some of my bosses trucks blow their dip sticks out of them I have become trained to look for that

these were just common mass production cars with big engines that anyone working at a factory could buy on installments
I finally sold my beloved GM Sales Promo 65 GTO 45 record to an owner years ago, but here is Side One for your enjoyment: ua-cam.com/video/F5IL1lOvuwo/v-deo.html
KILL THE CRAPPY MUSIC.
Sorry to pop your bubble, but it's not a 65 GTO. It's either a 66 or 67. Probably a 66.
That is 100% a 65 what the hell do you mean? I have a 65.
No, you are wrong...its a 1974 Pontiac Ventura, or maybe its a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am
Dan Stetler Dude, look up a 1966 Pontiac GTO. It looks nothing like this model. The '65 model is much boxier, which is what this is. '66 & '67 are more rounded in the edges. This is a 1965 model. Do some research.
65 or 66 or 67. I'll take any year. They all look the same to me.
66 and 67 have round front grilles, the 66 had clear turn signals, while 67s had amber lights, the 65 had square grilles and a cleaner rear end design, while 66 and 67 had louvered tail lights
